Family Farm Initiative

Dear friends – On Saturday, 10/23/2021, we had the first community meeting at the Zinniker Farm.  The 12 of us, some local, some from WI, some from Chicago, were greeted by a perfect fall day, a choir of birds, cool weather, bright sunshine, Hazel’s famous spice cake and a bonfire!

After we went around and introduced ourselves, Markus gave a brief history of the Zinniker Family Farm and he asked some very relevant questions that we are faced with today. (link to video) The conversation was lively and we came away with warmth of community and our first steps forward.

We decided to form a core group to work with Petra and Mark.  The short-term goal is to get a real understanding of a sustainable budget that includes everything!  After all, how can the farm thrive into the future unless we understand the economics.

After we understand the needs, how will we come around the farm as a supportive community to share the bounty of the land – and take the risks of farming off the farmer.

It addresses a statement posed by Mark, “the hardest thing for a farm to produce is community value

At the meeting, Jessica Fuchs, Robert Karp, Hazel and Chuck Ginsberg volunteered to be on the core group.  If you have an interest in getting involved, please contact ‘Family Farm Initiative’ We welcome your help!

We added the first video from this meeting to the Patreon page: www.patreon.com/zinnikerfarm Please show your support by giving what you can, & by sharing this link.

We’ll be sending out more videos & emails over the next couple of weeks.

We are happy to have you as part of our community as we reimagine our relationship to the Earth and our food.

Best,
Chuck Ginsberg & Hazel Archer

During this harvest time of year – the veils between the worlds are thin – & the spiritual realm beckons – as we stand at the edge of the Orionids with Michael, forging the iron sword of our will to strengthen our heart-thinking, we must also take up the courage to look beyond the veil of the material world, into the spirit realm, the place of our beginning, the time of our unborness, the place of our ending, when we shuffle off this mortal coil, only to begin again & yet again, as we strive toward the eternal…for every ending is a new beginning…

Sammy Kahn

This kind of clear thinking helps us make sense of life – When we see things that appear to be ‘wrong’ or ‘dying’, we can remember that death is part of life, & that if nothing died it could not then be reborn. As we make our way toward All Hallows this weekend, we might want to examine, not just what we are thinking, but how we are being thought into. Did we conjure that mind-morsel, or was it planted there by a helpful ancestor on the other side…Or did it slide in from the lords of distraction when we weren’t paying attention…?

Michael Smith

Let’s step into the dark half of the year with a tip-o-the hat, to good ol’ awakened consciousness…to lucid logic, impeccable objectivity, & cool, clean, common sense!?! Let’s mix in some magical thinking, a pinch of compassionate irony, loving satire, & an over heaping dollop of discernment into the stone soup; then we’ll be sure to harvest & generate lots of wild Sun-imbued karma in sweet Autumn splendor.

See you there

Mysteries of the Holy Grail – from Arthur and Parzival to Modern Initiation
November 3, 2021 – 7:15 pm Central (8:15 pm Eastern)

Where, then, is the Grail, which today bears the name of Parzival? Where can it be found? In the course of my research it had become apparent that the name must be sought in the stellar script. And then, in a day which I must regard as specially significant for me, I was shown where the gold-gleaming vessel is to be found in reality, so that through it – through its symbolical expression in the stellar script – we are led to the secret of the Grail. And then I saw in the stellar script something that anyone can see – only he will not immediately discern the secret. For one day, while I was observing the gold-gleaming sickle of the moon in inner vision, as this appears in the heavens, with the dark moon like a great disk dimly visible within it, it dawned on me: with physical sight one could see the gold-gleaming moon – ganganda greida, the journeying viaticum – and within it the large host, the dark, wafer-like disc. This is not to be seen if one merely glances superficially at the moon, but it is evident if one looks closely – and there, in wonderful letters of the occult script, was the name Parzival!”~Rudolf Steiner, The Mysteries of the Holy GrailChapter 5“Seeking for Signs of Parzival”, excerpts from Steiner’s lectures given at Leipzig on 1 January 1914 … focus of the November 3 meeting.

There is a knighthood of the 21st century whose riders do not ride through the darkness of physical forests as of old, but through the forest of darkened minds. They are armed with a spiritual armor and an inner sun makes them radiant. Out of them shines healing, healing that flows from the knowledge of the human being as a spiritual being. They must create inner order, inner justice, peace and conviction in the darkness of our time. ~Karl Konig

Be a Myth maker

GUSTAVE MOREAU

“…Myth is the secret opening
through which the inexhaustible energies
of the cosmos pour
into human cultural manifestation.
Religions, philosophies, arts, the social forms
of primitive and historic man,
prime discoveries in science and technology,
the very dreams that blister sleep,
boil up from the basic, magic ring of myth…
The latest incarnation of Oedipus,
the continued romance of Beauty and the Beast,
stand this afternoon
on the corner of Forty-second Street and Fifth Avenue,
waiting for the traffic light to change
.”
— Joseph Campbell, The Hero’s Journey

Marc Chagall

Springing up as oral traditions, Myths are living repositories of collective wisdom, social practice, spiritual transformation, ecological awareness, & psychological insight.

Myth is deep psyche dressed in imaginative cultural garb – a bridge or fabric of story that connects us to the blueprint of our destiny & through it to Heaven & Earth’s innermost workings, which in the end are the same as our own.

Joseph Campbell often pointed out “Myths are metaphors,” ; that symbolize the perennial, archetypal aspects of human experience. But although the underlying themes are eternal, the images that story them are constantly in motion; Deep rumblings sound below the level of collective consciousness, where vibrantly alive mythic images challenge & evolve us like the qualities of existence they image.

Rodell Tapaya

But mythic beings won’t stay locked out or confined to a grid. In a rationalist, de-sacralized world run by money, force, & hardware, they creep in from the margins & ruptures & edges
disguised as symptoms, nightmares, epidemics, political upheavals, works of art, moods of enchantment, & disturbing dreams.

Missy Crane

An education in mythology fills a gap in the hungering soul with nourishing visions, inspiring narratives, & timeless motifs. When properly digested they become food for the heart & therapy for the imagination. They summon us back to the natural terrains from which they originally sprang & to which all things return…

RUDOLF STEINER’S CALENDAR OF THE SOUL
translated (with added titles) by Roy Sadler
HALLOWEEN
Sun Inspiration
v30

In sunlight of my soul
ripe fruits of thought arise;
all feeling turns to certainty
of conscious self-awareness.
I joy to sense
the autumn’s rousing of the spirit;
within me will the winter wake
the summer of the soul.

This is the verse for the Celtic Wise Woman festival at Samhain [‘Summer’s End’].
The summer’s being begins to shine as the sun of the soul.
Here is a short extract adapted from anthroposophyla.org.
H. G. van Goudover explains that in working on itself doing exercises, the soul
transforms its own substance. The soul’s work of art is in the truest sense of the word,
a trans-substantiation: this verse’s meaning that in self-awareness every feeling
transforms to conscious certainty. Autumn verses stream toward future endeavors.
The true being of the summer is within the soul and the seed of its fruit is sprouting,
bringing a heightening self-consciousness.

Rudolf Steiner’s Lectures on this day

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

1260 – Chartres Cathedral is dedicated in the presence of King Louis IX of France

1601 – Death day of Tycho Brahe, Danish astronomer & alchemist. Rudolf Steiner speaks about him here in Karmic Relationships, Volume IV: Lecture VI: “We were tracing the thread of evolution which enters into the spiritual life of the present time, and we left off with the individuality of Julian the Apostate. I told you that this individuality was next incarnated in one who is only known by legendary accounts, whose secret is contained in the Parsifal legend, in the name of Herzeleide. In this life as Herzeleide, the soul of Julian the Apostate entered into a far deeper inner life. The soul-life of the individuality was deepened, as was indeed necessary after the many storms and inner moods of opposition which he had undergone in his life as Julian the Apostate.

But this later life of which I told you — this life as Herzeleide — spread itself out over the former life as Julian the Apostate like a warm embalming cloud. Thus the soul grew more intense and deep and inward, and grew richer, too, in manifold impulses of the inner life. (see more below)

Anselm Kiefer

Now this soul was among those who had carried over something of the ancient Mysteries. Julian had lived within the substance of the ancient Mysteries at a time when their light was still radiant in many ways. Thus he had received into himself much spirituality of the cosmos. All this had been as it were pressed back during the incarnation as Herzeleide; but it was none the less pressing forth in the soul, and thus we find the same individuality again in the 16th century; we find arising in him once more, in a Christianised form, what he had undergone as Julian the Apostate. For the same individuality reappears in the 16th century as Tycho de Brahe, and stands face to face with the Copernican world-conception which emerges within Western civilisation at that time.”

1911 – Orville Wright remains in the air nine minutes & 45 seconds in a Wright Glider at Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina.

1926 – Harry Houdini’s last performance takes place at the Garrick Theatre in Detroit. Harry Houdini was born Ehrich Weisz on 24 March 1874 in Budapest, Hungary. The son of a Rabbi, he relocated with his family to America in 1876.  By the age of 17 he was known as Harry Houdini & left his family to pursue his career in magic. Booked for a two-week engagement in Detroit at The Garrick Theatre, he arrived in pain, but decided to perform the opening show on October 24th.  With much difficulty he performed, but cut the show short & was admitted to Grace Hospital.  It had been determined that he had a ruptured appendix. Surgery was not enough to spare Houdini’s life & he died on 31 October 1926 from peritonitis.

1929 – “Black Thursday” stock market crash on the New York Stock Exchange.

1945 – Founding of the United Nations.

1946 – Deathday of Emil Grosheintz – dentist who had a practice in Basel, was an early anthroposopher, when the society was still connected to the theosophical movement. Rudolf Steiner loved him because of his sacrificial & conscientious work. His professional career as a dentist allowed him to accompany Steiner on many of his lectures. Like a leitmotiv, his life runs through the fact that he was always present as a witness in important moments of anthroposophy.

In 1906, Emil Grosheintz co-founded the Paracelsus branch in Basel. In 1907 he took part in the Munich Congress & became a member of the German section of the Theosophical Society in 1908.

In 1912, during a visit of Rudolf Steiner to his estate in Dornach, Grosheintz decided to make his land on the Dornach hill available for the construction of the first Goetheanum, & organized the purchase & donation of some further eastern plots.

In 1913 he became chairman of the Johannesbauverein. Because of his excellent organizational abilities & his experience, Emil Grosheintz became co-founder of the anthroposophical branch at the Goetheanum on September 12, 1920, & until May 9, 1943, he served as its first chairman &remained honorary chairman until his death

On 24 December 1914, Emil & Nelly Grosheintz-Laval were witnesses at the wedding ceremony of Marie & Rudolf Steiner.

On September 20, 1913, Emil Grosheintz & his wife Nelly Grosheintz-Laval took part in the laying of the foundation stone for the first Goetheanum. In the same year he moved with his wife & the two sons Hansi & Pierre into the Duldeck house designed for him by Rudolf Steiner on the Dornach hill near the Goetheanum.

1980 – The government of Poland legalizes the Solidarity trade union

2008 – “Bloody Friday” saw many of the world’s stock exchanges experience the worst declines in their history

From Occult History: Lecture 4
by Rudolf Steiner

During the 16th century, in the year 1546, a remarkable man was born of a noble house of Northern Europe, and in his very cradle, so to speak, everything was laid — including family wealth — that could have led him to positions of great honour in the traditional life of that time. Because, in line with his family traditions, it was intended that he should occupy some eminent political or other high position, he was marked out for the legal profession and sent with a tutor to the University of Leipzig to study jurisprudence. The tutor tormented the boy — for he was still a boy when he was forced to study law — all day long. But at night, while the tutor was sleeping the sleep of the just and dreaming of legal theories, the boy stole out of bed and observed the stars with the very simple instruments he had himself devised. And very soon he knew not only more than any of the teachers about the secrets of the stars but more than was to be found at that time in any book. For example, he very soon noticed a definite position of Saturn and Jupiter in the constellation of Leo, turned to the books and found that they recorded it quite erroneously. The longing then arose in him to acquire as exact a knowledge as possible of this star-script, to record as accurately as possible the course of the stars. No wonder that in spite of all his family’s resistance he soon extracted the permission to become a natural philosopher and astronomer, instead of dreaming his life away over legal books and doctrines. And having considerable means at his disposal, he was able to set up a whole establishment.

This was arranged in a remarkable way. In the upper storeys were instruments designed for observing the secrets of the stars; in the cellars there was equipment for bringing about different combinations and dissolutions of substances. And there he worked, dividing his time between observations carried out on the upper floors of the building and the boiling, fermenting, mixing and weighing which went on in the cellars below. There he worked, in Order to show, little by little, how the laws that are written in the stars, the laws of the planets and fixed stars, the macrocosmic laws, are to be found again microcosmically in the mathematical numbers underlying the combinations and dissolutions of substances. And what he discovered as a living connection between the heavenly and the earthly he applied to the art of medicine, producing medicaments which were the cause of bitter animosity around him because he gave them freely to those he wanted to help. The doctors at that time, intent upon extorting high fees, raged against this man who was accused of perpetrating all sorts of “horrors” with what he endeavoured to bring down from the heavens to the earth.

Fortunately, as the result of a certain happening, he found favour with the Danish King, Frederick the Second, and as long as he retained this favour, all went well: tremendous insight was gained into the spiritual working of cosmic laws in the sense I have just described. This man did indeed know something about the spiritual course of cosmic laws. He dumbfounded the world with things which admittedly would no longer find the same credence to-day. On one Occasion, when he was at Rostock, he prophesied, from the constellation of the stars, the death of the Sultan Soliman, which came true within a few days of the date he had foretold. The news of this made the name of Tycho Brahe famous in Europe. To-day the world at large knows hardly anything more of Tycho Brahe, whose life lies such a short time behind us, than that he was somewhat of a crank and never quite reached the lofty standpoint of modern materialism. He recorded a thousand stars for the first time in the maps of the heavens and also made the epoch-making discovery of a type of star, the “Nova,” which flares up and vanishes again, and described it. But these things are mostly passed over in silence. The world really knows nothing about him except that he was still “stupid” enough to devise a plan of the cosmos in which the earth stands still and the sun together with the planets revolve around it. That is what the world in general knows to-day. The fact that we have to do here with a significant personality of the 16th century, with one who accomplished an infinite amount that even to-day is still useful to astronomy, that untold depths of wisdom are contained in what he gave — none of this is usually recorded, for the simple reason that in presenting the system in detail, out of his own deep knowledge, Tycho Brahe saw difficulties which Copernicus did not see. If such a thing dare be said — for it does indeed seem paradoxical — even with the Copernican cosmic system the last word has not yet been uttered. And the conflict between the two Systems will still occupy the minds of a later humanity. — That, however, only by the way; it is too paradoxical for the present age.

It was only under the successor of the King who had been well-disposed towards him that the enemies of Tycho Brahe arose an all sides. They were doctors and professors at the University of Copenhagen, and they succeeded in inciting the successor of his patron against him. Tycho Brahe was driven from his fatherland and was obliged to go south again. It was in Augsburg that he had originally set up his first great planisphere and the gilded globe on which he always marked the new stars he discovered — finally amounting to a thousand. This man was destined to die in exile in Prague. To this very day, if we turn, not to the usual textbooks, but to the actual sources, and study Kepler, let us say, we can still see that Kepler was able to arrive at his laws because of the meticulous astronomical observations made by Tycho Brahe before him. Here indeed was a personality who again bore the stamp, in a grand style, of what had been great and significant wisdom before his time; one who could not reconcile himself to the kind of knowledge that became popular immediately afterwards in the shape of the materialistic view of the world. Truly it is a strange destiny, this destiny of Tycho Brahe!

And now, placing both personal destinies side by side, think how endlessly instructive it is when we learn from the Akasha Chronicle that the individuality of Julian the Apostate appears again in Tycho Brahe, that Tycho Brahe is, so to say, a reincarnation of Julian the Apostate. Thus strangely and paradoxically does the law of reincarnation take effect when the karmic connection of the single individual are modified by world-historic karma; when the cosmic Powers themselves use the human individuality as their instrument.”

All is Open

Kenneth Semmeply

I glide…on the winds of change blowing in hot & cold currents, as the season shifts – Smoothing the air – not like a leaf in the fall, but as a hawk, eyes penetrating into the essence of all….filled with wild strength & elemental power – yet safely rocking as in a mother’s arms – ensconced & tender.

All is open, there is no fixed schema, no anxiety or fear, no bullets-points on the agenda…The sky is vast – ready to receive – whatever my long-sighted wings want to inscribe on it…

As the wind releases, I slide down, toward wild trees encircled by streams & jutting glacial rock sprouting bright orange lichen & limey moss – Sun-drenched & shining…Gently, soundlessly…I reach the rich earth – strewn with the scent of living humus.

Mara Clear

Finding the power of my limbs, I walk – a well-trodden path – heading in an unfamiliar direction. I revel in the 1st hint of color dressing the trees…& the silence – broken only by the play of the elements: the song of birds, the water flowing, the busy animals. Ahead the path opens into a clearing ringed with ancient sentinel trees to make a shady grove. I recognize this Place. I remove my shoes to let my feet become one with the hallowed ground – Singing a blessing of thanks & praise – I cross the threshold between 2 mighty oaks.

Standing in the center of a cairn littered labyrinth, I see the bright figure of a woman. The quintessence of her visage becomes clear when she speaks my secret name, which I have not yet learned to pronounce. She is bidding me to come forward – to enter the spiraling labyrinth.

Kristina Carroll

I take the 1st step – & the path pulls me forward. I cannot tell of this journey, for it is my own…you have yours too…& it never ends…But when we reach the center – Anthroposophia – The She in me & we – leans forward to welcome our embrace.  She whispers a truth that reverberates thru the embryo of the ear so that all may hear – a well-reasoned wisdom speaking – something we already know, but have perhaps forgotten. It may be like the core of common sense; or perhaps it strikes the funny-bone like the humor of nonsense; or maybe it opens the heart to wonder. It may be a simple truth, or a complex mystical teaching which will require further deepening, or that which leads to a hero’s task. However it is heard, receive it as a benediction.

Let the bright woman braid a chain of flowers into your hair – touch your fingers to your crown knowing your mind has been forever changed, released, opened to all the possibilities that will transform your thoughts into things…

Spin with joy, noticing all at once, that the bright woman has vanished – & now, standing before us, is a dark figure, looking strangely familiar. Can you make out her face there in the shadow? She is carrying a bundle over her shoulder. She lays her burden down at our feet. The dark woman speaks with a voice that resonates to the bone…She calls us each with a special tone only we can hear. Will you answer & come forward? If you choose to, don’t close your eyes when the embrace pulls you in…

Wendy Canterpen

The Dark She gently whispers a truth into your left ear. It is a truth that you know is right. The truth touches your heart & frees your soul. You remember the bird, soaring thru clear skies, singing a song of joy & longing. When you return to the depths, the dark woman has vanished, & the bundle she was carrying, & then left there at your feet, has transformed, into a large pyramid of rich honey-colored amber. Pick up a piece & warm it in your hand…

The Sun calls you to lift the amber up…bring it up, into the light…Let the sunshine merge with this solid symbol of your vitality…Breathe in the pranic life-force emanating from your true purpose made manifest…

William Fenewell

Put this treasure in your breast pocket, as you leave the Sacred Place…forever knowing that your inner sanctuary goes where your intention flows…Knowing that union is possible between the many parts of our being…

Walking on in confidence… Balanced in the light & dark of our most authentic self…We walk the path from the wilderness…curving & mounding onto a city street. And as we stand in a circle there on the curb, in the oblique angle of the autumning Sun, feel how minds & bodies are changing – like the leaves. What color are you now?

Rudolf Steiner’s Lectures on this day

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

In 1307 October 13 was a Friday – Hundreds of Knights Templar in France are simultaneously arrested by agents of Phillip the Fair, to be later tortured into a “confession” of heresy. Once freed of the Inquisitors’ torture, many Templars recanted their confessions. Some had sufficient legal experience to defend themselves in the trials, but in 1310 Philip blocked this attempt, using the previously forced confessions to have dozens of Templars burned at the stake in Paris. With Philip threatening military action unless the pope complied with his wishes, Pope Clement finally agreed to disband the Order, citing the public scandal that had been generated by the confessions. At the Council of Vienne in 1312, he issued a series of papal bulls, which officially dissolved the Order. As for the leaders of the Order, the elderly Grand Master Jacques de Molay, who had confessed under torture, retracted his confession & insisted on his innocence. But he was declared guilty of being a relapsed heretic & was sentenced to be burnt at the stake in Paris on 18 March 1314. De Molay reportedly remained defiant to the end, calling out from the flames that both Pope Clement & King Philip would soon meet their end. Pope Clement died only a month later, & King Philip died in a hunting accident before the end of the year

1792 –The cornerstone of the United States Executive Mansion (known as the White House since 1818) is laid

1917 – The “Miracle of the Sun” is witnessed by an estimated 100,000 people in the Cova da Iria in Fátima, Portugal. The people had gathered because the 3 shepherd children, who originally claimed to have seen Our Lady of Fátim, had predicted that at high noon the lady who had appeared to them several times would perform a great miracle. According to many witnesses, after a period of rain, the dark clouds broke & the sun appeared as an opaque, spinning disc in the sky. It was said to be significantly duller than normal, & to cast multicolored lights across the landscape, the people, & the surrounding clouds. The sun was then reported to have careened towards the earth before zig-zagging back to its normal position. Witnesses reported that their previously wet clothes became “suddenly & completely dry, as well as the wet & muddy ground that had been previously soaked because of the rain that had been falling.” According to reports, a panorama of visions, including those of Jesus, Our Lady of Sorrows, & of Saint Joseph blessed the people. The event lasted approximately ten minutes.

Vincent van Gogh

5 October 1872 – the Birthday of Friedrich Rittelmeyer, a Protestant German minister, & theologian – friend of Rudolf Steiner – co-founder & driving force of The Christian Community.

Growing up in Frankish Schweinfurt – his father was a Lutheran minister – it was already clear to him as a child that he wanted to go into a religious profession. From 1890 Rittelmeyer studied philosophy & Protestant theology. His teacher Oswald Külpe, encouraged him to write his dissertation on Friedrich Nietzsche.

He also went on a study trip to meet theologians & socially-engaged ministers of the time, as well as members of the Moravian Church. From 1895 to 1902 he was at the Stadtvikar in Würzburg. In 1903 he took up the preachership of Heilig-Geist-Kirche in Nuremberg. There he married Julie Kerler on 5 April 1904. Rittelmeyer worked & closely collaborated with Christian Geyer, the head preacher of the Sebalduskirche, together they produced two joint volumes of sermons. Around 1910 they both led discussions with the Bavarian Church Council on a liberal interpretation of the Bible.

Also in 1910 the Nuremberg school teacher Michael Bauer enabled Rittelmeyer to have his first encounter with Rudolf Steiner, the founder of anthroposophy. Rittelmeyer described the encounter & discussed Steiner’s personality & work in his book ‘Rudolf Steiner Enters my Life’.

In 1916 Rittelmeyer was sent to the Neue Kirche in Berlin, working as preacher there. He  opposed the First World War, & with 4 other Berlin theologians signed a proclamation of peace & understanding on the occasion of Reformation Day (October 1917).

In September 1922 he established the “Movement for Religious Revival” (Christengemeinschaft) Rittelmeyer acted as its first “Erzoberlenker” or Head Priest, & from its base in Stuttgart was the leading envoy right up to his death.

I have quivered beneath the power of their hands on my head
& trembled in the void of their absence
When they turned & left me to my destiny…

Dear Sisters & Brothers – In our present world crisis it is essential to align ourselves with the Being of Michael to enable us to overcome all that is of the ‘dragon ‘rearing its many heads in our time. We can come to know this mighty Time Spirit by taking into our hearts earnest wisdom-filled thoughts concerning the countenance that this being holds. If we do this we will soon see the light of wisdom mount into fiery flames of will – that empower us to fulfill the tasks that are incumbent upon us.

During Harvest season these energies firing up our will are especially available & are strongest when joined in a community effort. In concert with friends & co-creators, we can work with Michael/Christ at this crucial time, when the Mystery of Evil unfolds together with the Reappearance of Christ in the Etheric.

Mi-cha-el is a Hebrew name consisting of three separate words – the word Mi, pronounced My, means “Who?” cha, pronounced kai, means “like” or “as.” And El pronounced “L”, is the abbreviated form of Elohim – the name of God in the plural – the 7 Spirits of Form or the creator gods referred to in Genesis: “In the beginning God [Elohim] created heaven and earth…” Put these three word-syllables together & we get Mi-cha-el: “Who is like God?” This name prods our ordinary thinking – providing an opportunity to penetrate beyond the surface – to pose important questions.  Facts are dead if they are not stepping-stones to more penetrating questions which allow further answers.

The very essence of Michael is not a proper noun but a verb – a deed. What if we applied this kind of spiritual questioning to all of our striving toward knowledge? Who, or what, is the essence behind the Word? What is it that we seek in all of our ‘questing’ for wisdom & knowledge? The ‘Holy Grail’ is to uphold the wisdom of god – to know the spiritual foundation of things.

Rudolf Steiner reminds us that “Every idea we hold that does not become an ideal slays a power within us.” Instead of slaying the dragon in us, this kind of lazy thinking slays the Michael power within us. But when our thoughts rise to the ideal, they have a force that is useful & eternal, imbued with will – fired with an indomitable force. These thoughts rise up to God.

Michael as Time Spirit is cosmopolitan – universal – a role model to prepare us for the collective culture of the future that began with the Christ event, blossoming in the future with ‘Philadelphia’ – the culture of ‘brotherly love’ which leads us into the ideal community of the New Jerusalem – where we are the 10th hierarchy – the universal human being – co-creator in the cosmos.

What is universal goes completely beyond groups, beyond divisions – to the One -to the All as One – the Christ within us.  This divine spark that we have in common with all of humanity is universal. Until we can embrace all, accept all, love all—as Christ shows us—we have not arrived at universal individualism. As students of the Michaelic intelligence we are called to mirror the highest in the other.

Anyone who striving to do the ‘Great Work’ on the path of personal development & spiritual research knows that it is an arduous, lonely path – And ironically it is often in community where the most suffering & pain is triggered, offering our deepest sorrow as well as our biggest opportunities for growth.

From a broad evolutionary perspective we can understand that every soul is on ‘the path’. Can we recognize & feel the cry of the spirit, the seeking soul within the annoying person on the street, our family members, or co-workers? Can we have compassion for others & for ourselves in our various conditions of soul &spirit sickness? Can we see beyond the soul sicknesses, to meet the hungering individual who is, in their own way, seeking for a fulfillment that only the spirit can bring?

This is how we can work with Michael; then we are a co-worker learning to mirror the highest in the other – striving to hold the countenance of Christ – this is what we come to understand in the school of Michael. When we are recognized by another on the level of spirit, we naturally awaken to our latent potential & connect more readily with our unique life-purposes.

Can we trust that no matter where a fellow human being is on their journey that we can acknowledge the Christ within them? Or do we hold the individuals around us captive to their past? Do we unconsciously cast judgment on them? We have seen them fail perhaps countless times. Is there a subtle condemning in us when we speak to them or of them to others?

How about those who ascribe to a different social philosophy or support a different political party – do we judge them as inferior for their beliefs & unworthy of our help or support? Do we think of them as evil – never able to progress or change? If so, we are aligning ourselves with the adversary of our own soul’s progress as well as theirs.

Can we forgive them & ourselves, & step up to be the person in their life that helps them see their true potential? Are we living up to our own?  If we are able to do this, then we are working with Michael as a mirror to the divine nature within others. What a beautiful harvest that will bring to the world.

Let this season enkindle in us a renewed hope, an unshakeable faith, a sure strength – endowing us with the spiritual will of Michael-Sophia. In the name of Christ, we can stand fast in freedom – to sure up the practical reality that Spiritual Science offers as a world view.
