KNOW THYSELF - Reveal Your Life's Purpose - Wisdom from the Temple of – Greg Spalenka

Dear friends & karmic goads –

It’s difficult to really Know Thyself. It’s even harder to have the clarity & discerment to find the right words to describe yourself to another. And then there are the impressions others have of us. Impressions which are often colored by past karma, antipathies & sympathies – & what they see reflected in the mirror of themselves.

What is true for me, might not be true for you. And then of course it’s all in how we react to their reaction…

Know Thyself | No Man Walks Alone

I often ask myself: What is more important, our manners or our intentions? Are we our confessions, or our ideals? What if our deeds haven’t fruited, can we still claim the harvest?

It’s difficult to stand up to the standards of others. Our karma sometimes gives us slack, & sometimes it’s the rope that hangs us.

Let me take a moment to introduce myself & make this disclaimer: I currently working as a synthesizer – I am a collage maker – a collector – a compiler – a connect-the-dots kind of gal. I hunt & gather & make soup. I transform what was, into what is, & practice to manifest what will be. I have the soul & imagination of a mystic, yet I have learned to keep my feet on the ground – thoroughly engaged in my will forces to get things done.

The world-wide-web is my ocean, & I am a sponge. I am often the barometer flapping in the wind, gauging the current weather patterns. Yep even the canary in the mine shaft; or the sibyl picking up the gestalt of the age.

I think about that Steiner quote (which I can’t site, sorry) where he talks about how someone unconsciously sees the headline & talks about it like it was his own thought. Mind you Steiner tells us we must always strive to be conscious. I admit a lot of times I open myself to what the little birdy whispers in my ear, not always paying attention to where the idea came from, & this can get me in trouble, opening me to not so beautiful forces, or running the risk of overstepping boundaries.

Symbols of Presence in the Japanese Culture
Rembrandt

On the good days I know it’s the angels, or the beloved dead, leading me here or there, or speaking thru me; & I feel divinely led to make connections where none were seen before. And from that sometimes I am actually graced with innovative ways of thinking.

But yeah sometimes I am just regurgitating what I am striving to understand by putting it out in front of myself.

Nicolas Régnier

I am not a scholar. I am woefully inept at siting references, or notating the bibliography. And I have been seeing more & more how hurtful that can be. I certainly don’t like it when someone takes ‘my’ ideas without giving me credit.

I rely heavily on the Rudolf Steiner Archives of which I pay a monthly donation. I scour all the Wiki’s. I am on FB, where I have met amazing artists who generously let me share their work. I also search google images, & use earthsky.org or skyandtelescope.org for the foundation of my Star Speaking.

Besides my own life experiences, the collective human story influences me – I particularly love the archetypes, fairytales, & all ancient myths & legends.

I am very keen to what’s ‘in the air’ – seeds broadcast out from the spiritual world. I have found many times in my life that I ‘come up with an idea’ that 3 other people have also been thinking about. This can feel uncomfortable, but I am learning to see that it really doesn’t matter who actualizes them as long as these seeds become manifest & are able to bear fruit.

I don’t monetize anything I do, but some folks do, & why shouldn’t they get credit for their intellectual property; or paid for what they do? Most days I am fine with offering unpaid community service, but then at other times I resent it, because some folks think that just because I’m not getting paid it means I’m not working, or that my time isn’t valuable. But that will never stop me from wanting to share.

I am a big fan of the public domain & make use of it daily. But there is a fine line between ‘fair use’, ‘open source’, ‘creative commons’ & copyright laws.

My journal is like a jigsaw puzzle where I keep the pieces I have collected along the way. A string of words here, a half remembered story there, an overheard fragment, a piece of coal that I tie together with a lump of sand & the view from my window that day to make my POD…etc.

But then recently thru my often uncomfortable karmic relationships I was admonished for using the definition of a word without crediting the source. This led them to search for other breaches. And then they shared their distrust with another, who told me it was like taking a painting by Rembrandt, adding a few flowers to it & claiming credit. So while it hurts that friends are going out of their way to find fault & gossip; I take to heart the truth of their criticism, knowing they are in my life to help me live up to my highest potential. I often live inside myself so I need the reflection, even if it’s tough love.

I am so grateful when folks dialogue with me on the content; or write to talk about their experience or insights. I am tremendously inspired by feedback & pointers to other sources or lectures. Thank you! This is what I had hoped this space would be – a community – the sacred space of the New Mysteries where the Social Sphere provides a Threshold for growth & change.

I remember when I was asked to write an article for Das Goetheanum about the ‘Great American Eclipse’. They were very demanding about the bibliography, which I found inhibiting. I have a lot to learn, I’m just not sure I want to make that my focus.

So I feel I am at a turning point, where I am called to work differently, not so much collecting & synthesizing out loud, but instead doing that work internally, letting the quotes stand on their own, & then writing more personally from my own experience. I am hoping that by not spending half the day researching –gathering – collating; I will have more time to actually work on that ‘novel’ I keep threatening to write.

EASTERTIDE IV
The Beltane Gift

v4
I feel the essence of my being,
speaks senses’ feeling
that in the sunlit world unites
with shining floods of light;
it would enliven clear thought
with warmth
and marry Man and World.

‘Marry’ as a translation of ‘unite’ in this first full moon verse after Easter
is a recognition that in ancient times before our present calendar system
Beltane was a marriage festival at the Full Moon when the Sun was in Taurus.

Ascension: The Secret Teachings, The Elementals, & The Etheric Christ – Hazel Archer

Calendar of the Soul – Luigi Morelli

For those who are familiar with the Calendar of the Soul we could say that during spring and summer we follow the ascent of cosmic life, cosmic light, cosmic warmth and cosmic Word as gifts bestowed upon the human being by the cosmos. By being receptive to them we strengthen our connection to cosmos and Self.

We will briefly explore the dynamics of the year, then look at what qualities of soul we need to develop as we move into spring and summer, most particularly from Easter to Ascension and Whitsun. We will look at the verses of the calendar in conjunction with the artistic renditions of Anne Stockton and Karl König, drawn for each of the verses.

We will ask ourselves: How can we live into and grow from this time of the year? How can we deepen our inner relationship to the event of Ascension? What can we receive and what can we give?

  1. I don’t manage to read all your posts, but I did happen upon this one. In all of the posts that I have come across. I have been pleasantly surprised to notice your use of synthesising, both images and words, from various individuals and differing schools of thoughts. This has been refreshing! I have found, in some Anthroposophical circles, a more sectarian feel. Of course, I appreciate that the majority of your content does comes from an Anthroposophical lense and you cite it as so. I do believe, it is important, and respectful, to honour lineages . I have questioned Steiner’s lack of bibliography, when plenty of his day, made extensive bibliographies; translating both Latin and Greek, i.e, when referring to alchemical treatises. I appreciate he also, as you say of yourself, is seen as a mystic and not a scholar. I do appreciate his contributions and fully believe in Waldorf education. I make no claims that I have read all his works, as I have not. I understand, whether correctly or not, that he sourced his writings from the Akashic records. But, I still would have wished he’d have referenced and honoured more lineages and schools of thought, and perhaps his writings would have held more weight in academic circles.
When I manage to read some of your posts. I can read them with an anthroposophical lense and some posts feel much more in line with Jungian thought . It appears, to me, that sometimes the jargon has been translated from one stream to the other. Perhaps, to make it more accessible to the particular audience. That is also, I feel, what all of us today do. We find/see/experience something that works and then translate it into our stream/groups jargon.
In saying all this. I find what I read on your site, very engaging and of interest. I really think it’s great that you are gathering information from more than, just, one stream. You are making it accessible to your particular audience and I commend that. There are many great thinkers and schools of thought.

    1. Greetings Lilith, thank you for taking the time to reach out & share your insights.
It is a fine line when trying to walk with the letter as well as the spirit of the law, to show all sides.
So important to find the connections between the streams. I often let the flow of the wheel of the year guide me.
This is deep & wide & encompasses the past, present & future. I feel strongly called to bring the essence of the ancient mysteries into a renewal for what is apporpirate for us now ever listening to what is calling us from the future…

  2. Hi Hazel. I’m finally getting around to reading your post of yesterday. I was busy writing a blog of my own – not for anthroposophy, but for another research organization. Do appreciate this subject of Know Thyself – it’s one that our study group has been discussing for the past two months, and we could go on much longer; there’s so much to know about our selves. Your first paragraphs give a good indication of just how complicated we are.

Your forthrightness is something I appreciate in your blog. I don’t know you well, and find that you’re like your journal – a puzzle. But only because, as I say, I don’t know you well enough. What exactly is a college maker? Are you part of a team hoping to start a new college? You are blessed to be in the position where you can do a project such as this blog, and for no compensation. I say that because you are helping people, judging by the comments I’ve seen, and by the help I’ve found. You make a good point about the sowing of seeds; you are doing that, as we all are. Because life is continuous, the seeds we sow may not come to bloom for a long time, perhaps another incarnation or more, but the universal law is that what we sow, that we reap. As Jesus said, some of that seed will fall on rocky ground – it springs up, but an adverse environment or the birds of the air (like the critics finding fault) come, and the good seed is lost or blown away. Some seed will fall on ground rife with thorns and briars and the weeds (again, the critics) will choke out any new growth. Take heart though – some seed will fall on good ground, and if sown with proper motives, will produce up to a hundred-fold. We don’t know how fruitful it can be, even into future generations, so we must ensure we’re planting good spiritual seeds.

I’m glad that you’re “lifting the veil” on who exactly hag is; you’re on the right track about going within – we have within ourselves the answer to every question and problem we can ever raise. It’s our divine heritage; it’s that treasure that was hidden within us, waiting to be discovered. My hope is that, as you are revealed (your own revelation, as Steiner said must happen when we read the Biblical Revelation), that you’ll combine it with all your present abilities, to become a true spiritual powerhouse, a force to be reckoned with. Blessings, with love. xox

    1. Hi Maverick –
Thanks for chiming in. O gosh that was a typo, it’s collage, not college, ha, that’s funny…
school of hard knocks where they didn’t teach spelling, or at least I didn’t learn it very well…

I images of the seed is a good one & so important to garner perspective. Thannk you.

Yes this ever evoluing, unveiling & knowing of our true essence, in all it’s potential as well as the parts that are in need od reeducation…

Thanks for your sincer interest & for adding to the conversation

      Blessings

  3. Dear Hazel, Aye, “Know Thy Self” is indeed a constant process, for we are becomings and reflections of the greater world and all its mysteries, are our mysteries. I love your work of gathering from the “World-Wide-Web” of information and observation, art and story; and am sorry to hear that some analytical/critical becomings have hounded you about where you got what and did you get it “right”; and just how many “errors” they can find. So often, maybe even mostly, we stay in abstractions rather than get to the living ideas; but they are there none the less, lying on the page as in a grave, awaiting the resurrection of our attention and love, like the kiss of the prince awakening Snow White. Steiner pointed out a number of times that ideas don’t belong to anyone, they are beings becoming too, alive and seeking to enter into activity thru us. They don’t belong to anyone (though I guess someone can claim his or her way of describing it as theirs? and want to charge a fee or get named as author? but how much egotism is in that? though it is good to acknowledge where we heard it for sure!) Rather let us work/play with the ideas and test the “rightness” thru our own experiences and help each other in giving expression to them, rather than trying to shoot each other down. As I feel/think you try to do; and I applaud your move towards speaking more from your experience of the ideas you have gleaned from the fields.

    1. Another layer of the onion, to peel bringing tears of joy & regret on the ever evolving journey – Thanks for your all-encompassing perspectives – So important to lift the corners of the rug as well as seeing the big picture. God & the devil are in the details & it’s our intentions that make them good or ill. May we stay in love & let that be our only motivation…

      1. Aye, keep on keeping on. Love is the motivator, the open door to the whole wide universe within and without. Blessings on your way!

  4. Dear Hazel,

What an amazing person you are — I can never keep up with all your posts as I can’t sit still at my computer very long, but I marvel whenever I’ve come to Reverse Ritual how you can do so much, find so much, share so much, so openly and beautifully. I hope you will continue as it is rich and helpful. I’ve been feeling guilty as I have not thanked you enough, but also I’d like to know if I may send a small check to show my devoted appreciation and to help you with any endeavor.

You are my younger but wiser, uber- talented soul sister and I always learn from you!

    1. Hi Joan, Thank you for counting me as a soul-sister, that’s important on so many levels.
Women are conditioned to compete with one another which kills the communal spirit so needed for support & growth in the world as a whole.

My problem is that I let the few LOUD goading voices, which have their purpose, drown out the love & connection which is also so mighty & in need of acknoweldement.
Both voices are needed, & I am working on taking it all in so as to not feel one sided & overwhelmed. So thanks for the pep talk.

Send your Check via the 10:10 Thought-seed…I will recieve it there!

  5. Hi Hazel,

I think and hope you are at a turning point. You wrote something hear that speaks volumes:

“So I feel I am at a turning point, where I am called to work differently, not so much collecting & synthesizing out loud, but instead doing that work internally, letting the quotes stand on their own, & then writing more personally from my own experience. I am hoping that by not spending half the day researching –gathering – collating; I will have more time to actually work on that ‘novel’ I keep threatening to write.”

Hazel, I feel that you are the hardest working woman in “spiritual show business”, and the only other I know of is Rudolf Steiner himself! I see you in the mold of the Dion Fortune of Anthroposophy, and that is a very good thing.

What resonates extremely with your above remarks is you need to find the time to simply go inward and find your own core; “know thou thyself”. I sent you my little book recently, which is an appendix to a much larger tome, but the point was to show how intensified thinking can achieve results. Podcasts and You Tubes are daunting business, and maybe it is in your nature to continue with this, but I sense another side with your comments here. Love the rj comments earlier, which were awesome.

    1. Very observant deear brother…
Yes, I think the hardest thing is for me is to be still,
perhaps this is what is called for…

  6. I too really appreciate the love & creative energy you send out into the world every day, Hazel. Inspirational reminders to pay careful attention to what is happening around me. Beautifully curated art work & delightful poetry. I’m not sure what it is that people are unhappy about – what you’re doing certainly makes a difference to me. A big hug and thank you, dear lady!

    1. Hi Deborah –
It’s always important to balance the spirit of the the law with the letter of the law, I get that & want to strive to bring both into balance…
      Thanks for your kind words
      xox

  7. I am not sure how your posts will change, whether the content will be different or a change in the frequency, but I want to let you know that your posts are always thought provoking for me. The combination of the selection of images that you chose and the thoughts you share is worth my time, and I appreciate what you offer. Citations are certainly valuable, but their value is enriched by the creative thoughts that arise upon pondering those citations. Focusing on citations can result in a glorified annotated bibliography, and I have been to lectures that have been nothing more than that. It is a balance. I look forward to what you will write, whether it is your posts or a forthcoming book. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!

    1. Yes, so true, it is always about balance, with the intention of love & service…
I can certainly learn from those who are good at the citations, it’s important to be hygienic & I am glad this has come to the forefront in my consciousness.
I am not sure either how things will change, but I do know change is in the air & I will be awake to what fresh perspectives are wafting in.
Thank you for being part of the conversation

  8. I feel you more than ever.
I will tell you that in recent months, I have created another egregore – one that accrues compassion, recognition and love each time I experience one of your posts or podcasts.
It is a hag-egregore wafting somewhere in the ethers between CA and IL. So often, I have been so moved after experiencing your material/creations, that I tap on the place in your podcast where it says, “Leave a message” and have recorded a few messages to send to you, though, have not actually sent them through the technology due to reluctance to create a password-account on the transmission-facilitating platform.
So, a conscious, egregore practice of weaving and transmitting appreciation, acknowledgment and love for you sprouted and you must know that you are honored by me every day.
It’s likely my hag-egregore has not yet arrived as working on it solo might be akin to a simple, fine-yarned fingerknitting project rather than say, casting on and embarking into some fancy-patterned 2 knitting-needle project. Or, it may have been trawled into unconscious spam.
Also, dear Hazel, on more than one occasion, I have looked through your website for a place to offer a donation; I am so deeply touched and affected by your work and courage; so appreciative. I have thought that perhaps I could send a small offering by way of the Chicago branch and specify that it is meant for you.

Please know that I am reverberating with your public offerings on a very deep level.
I am in awe of the tremendous amount of work you manifest and share.
Experiencing the being of you, through your generous research-sharing and stream-of-consciousness expressions, written, aural, or “zoom”-ed, I, for one, have been deeply affected and significantly buoyed by the karmic good fortune of having crossed your path.
There is so much to talk about, so much that I share with you.
May my love be balm for your throbbing open heart today.
with so much respect & gratitude,
    rj

    1. rj – BAM! POW! ZAP! The transmission has arrived – Wowza I am all aglow – Blushing with embarrassed blithering ta muchly. I am going to tap into that egregore ever stronger now, knowing the ante has been upped big time. Thank you thank you thank you. I will work hard to hold your offering in my heart whole when I feel like a cave echoing in the wind…Bless you dear friend, team human has scored! xox
