John Lennon sang about instant karma. (Is that why he had to die? Another topic sorry…) It does seem that past, present & future, are overlapping more & more. Is time speeding up? Or is our one-sided desire for bigger-faster-more, driving us into a trap, in our blind grasp for distraction..? (the 5G agenda comes to mind…ok I won’t go there right now & yet it hangs literally everywhere) I’ve often heard folks say: ‘Don’t be such a dreamer, nothing happens overnight – it takes time for things to change’ – or ‘that will never happen’ (a third party for instance – Brings to mind another John Lennon song: ‘Imagine’ – not sure why John is speaking so much today…) And yet our current reality proves otherwise. The world as we know it has completely turned upside down, in the span of, what, about 2 months…?

From one standpoint we can say an outside force has modified our collective behavior on a planetary scale. And poof, the world population has been able to focus on one single issue (not gun control or poverty, or…)We have for the most part bought into a collective focus of attention, making it an inner impulse, which has dissolved many of the competing obstacles that usually stand in the way of outward change.

But guess what? We CAN mobilize massive resources. We are actually forming unprecedented new patterns of collaboration across institutions & communities. We are seeing how focused energy follows attention. Whether our attention is being focused on a true intention for good, or not, we have set a new precedence in our ability to apply a common consideration to meet the challenge at hand, developing interventions that have effectively put us in a global goosestep; which in turn not only bends the curve, it totally re-invents it.

If we were to look behind the lines, (O yes that tangled web) we might also see that ‘We The People’ really do have the power to call for action & change on issues that affect all life on Earth – IF we apply our ‘willing thinking’ & use our ‘thinking willing’ to connect the dots & stand in uprightness.

Then dear friends, there is nothing we can’t do.

1760 – Death-day of Count Zinzendorf , A social reformer & bishop of the Moravian Church. The Zinzendorf family belonged to one of the most ancient of noble families in Lower Austria. Among his ancestors was the Emperor Maximillian I.

Zinzendorf did not intend to found a religious organization distinct from the area’s Lutheran Church, but to create a Christian association, by demonstrating practical benevolence, that might awaken dull Lutheranism. He began to think that true Christianity could be best promoted by free associations of Christians, which in the course of time might grow into churches with no state connection.

In 1722, Zinzendorf offered asylum to a number of refugees from Moravia & Bohemia & built the village of Herrnhut on a corner of his estate.

Out of study & prayer, the community formed a document known as the Brüderlicher Vertrag, the ‘Brotherly Agreement’, today known as “The Moravian Covenant for Christian Living.” The Moravian Church is one of the few denominations that emphasizes a code of Christian behavior over specific creeds.

In these communities, a radical equality of spiritual life was practiced. Nobility & Native Americans shared common quarters; slaves were full members of the Church & could be elected to offices of leadership.

Zinzendorf’s interest in missionary work was sparked by meeting two Inuit children.

In 1736, accusations from neighboring nobles & questions of theological orthodoxy caused Zinzendorf to be exiled from his home in Saxony. He & a number of his followers moved to Marienborn (near Büdingen) & began a period of exile & travel, during which he became known as the “Pilgrim Count.”

In 1741, Zinzendorf visited Pennsylvania, becoming one of the few 18th century European nobles to have actually set foot in the Americas. In addition to visiting leaders such as Benjamin Franklin, he met with the leaders of the Iroquois.

Zinzendorf’s theology strongly included the emotional life of the believer as well as the intellectual. He criticized the coldly intellectual approach common in his day, & built a great deal of practice around the transformation of the emotions. He referred to this as the “religion of the heart.”

1805 – Death-day of Friedrich Schiller, some say he was poisoned (GA 64) The coffin containing what was purportedly Schiller’s skeleton, was brought in 1827, into the Weimarer Fürstengruft (Weimar’s Ducal Vault), later also Goethe’s resting place. On 3 May 2008, scientists announced that DNA tests showed that the skull of this skeleton is not Schiller’s, & his tomb is now vacant.

Friedrich Schiller was a German poet, philosopher, physician, historian, & playwright. During the last seventeen years of his life (1788–1805), Schiller struck up a productive, if complicated, friendship with the already famous & influential Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. They frequently discussed issues concerning human freedom. Schiller encouraged Goethe to finish works he left as sketches. This relationship & these discussions led to a period now referred to as Weimar Classicism. They also worked together on Xenien, a collection of short satirical poems in which both Schiller & Goethe challenge opponents to their philosophical vision.

Schiller wrote many philosophical papers on ethics & aesthetics. He synthesized the thought of Immanuel Kant with the thought of the German Idealist philosopher, Karl Leonhard Reinhold. He elaborated Christoph Martin Wieland’s concept of die schöne Seele (the beautiful soul), a human being whose emotions have been educated by reason, so that Pflicht und Neigung (duty & inclination) are no longer in conflict with one another. Beauty, for Schiller, is not merely an aesthetic experience, but a moral one as well: the Good is the Beautiful.

His philosophical work was particularly concerned with the question of human freedom, a preoccupation which also guided his historical researches, & found its way as well into his dramas. Schiller wrote important essays on the question of the sublime, addressing one aspect of human freedom—the ability to defy one’s animal instincts, such as the drive for self-preservation, when, for example, someone willingly sacrifices themselves for conceptual ideals.

Recently I fell into the rabbit hole, looking outwards, searching for culprits of this ‘plan-demic’, this pandemonium. And now again I am pulled to continue to investigate thru the lens of spiritual-science, to ask what task this illness holds for us as individuals & for humanity as a whole. I have written a lot about how Rudolf Steiner describes epidemics as events that belong to the progress of humanity, serving to enhance our spiritual & moral development. So, on a personal & global, karmic level, we need to ask: Why have I called in this ‘pandemic’?

The human soul finds the opportunity to compensate what had been caused by the Ahrimanic influence and by certain earlier Luciferian influences. If other conditions of avoidance are now brought forward to delay this compensation, this is again becomes subject to far reaching karmic laws that add to the dept. It makes me think of how when the dragon was cast out of heaven, enabling the human being to become its host, there was a disruption in the karmic order of humanity. The angels that separated from the Choir Master Michael & came down to earth brought a kind of chaos into the karma of many. Are all the measures imposed upon us ‘for our own good’ part of this prevention of our karmic compensation?

We can turn again to Rudolf Steiner’s explanation: “From this you can see that for a karmic compensation, which we would be able to remove from one side through prevention, or a temporary seeming cure, there would have to be a compensation in another direction again. We then only create the need to seek other opportunities and influences if we remove the initial influences. Now let us suppose that many epidemics, common causes of illness, can simply be seen to lead back to the fact that those people who subconsciously bring in these ‘causes of illness’, want to clear away what they have acquired through karma.

For example in the smallpox epidemic we can see the organs of unkindness.

If we were able to remove these organs, the cause of unkindness would still remain and the souls concerned would then have to seek the appropriate compensation in another way, in this or another incarnation.

We can understand what is going on when we point out something that we certainly have to count on, and that is the following. Today, indeed, a great deal of external influences and causes are being cleared away that would otherwise have been sought, as illnesses, to balance out certain karmic things that mankind has been carrying around since earlier ages. But by doing so, we only remove the possibility that man will be forfeited to the external influences: We make his outer life more pleasant or even healthier in the short term. But by doing this we only achieve that what man would have sought as karmic compensation in the corresponding disease relationship, must now be sought in another way. The souls which are kept back in this way today in a health-related relationship are thus condemned to seek this karmic balance in another way. And they will have to seek it, not just in one way, but in numerous cases, in often more dire cases.

By making their physical life guarded, the soul will be influenced in the opposite way; it will be in a way influenced that it will gradually feel a certain emptiness, an unsatisfactoriness, an unfulfilled feeling.

And if it were to go on in such a way, that the outer life would become more and more disconnected, more and more unrelated, as one can have it according to the general ideas in purely materialistic life, then such souls would have less and less incentive to progress in themselves. Congratulations Beloved –
& Welcome to Your Royal Wedding Party
Where You marry You…Come on, Say I do…
as you dance to the beat of your laughing heart
around the blazing bonfire in MayDay Jubilation…
Break taboos, buck the rut rote,
& overthrow conventional surface stuff
with your blithe grace & jaunty charm
in your one-of-a-kind Wedding gown…

There are a couple of caveats though:
the beautiful truth won’t always be simple & bright;
a good marriage takes work to gleam & Green…
it can get murky & dense, convoluted, or kaleidoscopic…
the bird song whispering sweet somethings may sound
more like a marching band
pounding out a kinky version of Beethoven’s 5th
than a double flute playing a quaint folk song…
(if you’re lucky)

When you Give Peace & Dance
you’re likely to be quivery & atwitter in your vows
due to encounters with the Great Unknown –
arrivals from beyond the Wild Blue Yonder –
that will blow your mind to recalibrate
your philosophy of life. So Rejoice…
Your appointments with the numinous
are likely to be stirring, awe-inspiring & fire-friendly…

Your old self is the fuel you will use to burn
your old self to the ground…This bonfire will liberate
your new self, which may be trapped
in a gnarly snarl deep inside your old self…
don’t let the flames freak you –
for very quickly a sense of relief & release will predominate…
Then, as the New You commits its way to freedom,
escaping its cramped quarters – flexing its vital force
in mystic union…you will be blessed
with a foreshadowing of your future bliss…
The intoxication that follows will bring you clarity, peace of mind
& a mighty orgasm of communal de-light…

7 May 2020 – “Speaking with the Stars”: A gigantic asterism you may not know about is the Diamond of Virgo, extending over five constellations. It now stands upright in the south after the stars come out. Start with Spica, its bottom. Upper left from Spica is bright Arcturus. Almost as far upper right from Arcturus is fainter Cor Caroli. The same distance lower right from there is Denebola, the tailtip of Leo. And then back to Spica. The bottom three of these stars, the brightest, form a nearly perfect equilateral triangle. Maybe we should call this the “Spring Triangle” to parallel those of summer & winter?

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

Siege of Jerusalem, May 7, 1099 by Godfrey of Bouillon, a medieval knight who was one of the leaders of the First Crusade. He became the first ruler of the Kingdom of Jerusalem. Instead of the title of King, Godfrey preferred the title of Advocatus Sancti Sepulchri = Advocate of the Holy Sepulchre. He is also known as the “Baron of the Holy Sepulchre” or the “Crusader King”.

On May 7, 1915, less than a year after World War I (1914-18) erupted across Europe, a German U-boat torpedoed & sank the RMS Lusitania, a British ocean liner on route from New York to Liverpool, England. Of the 1,900 passengers & crew members on board, 1,100 perished. Nearly two years would pass before the United States formally entered World War I, but the sinking of the Lusitania played a significant role in turning public opinion against Germany, both in the United States & abroad.

Death-day in 973 of Otto the great. Otto inherited the kingship of the Germans, unifying all German tribes into a single kingdom & greatly expanded the king’s powers at the expense of the aristocracy. Otto transformed the Roman Catholic Church in Germany to strengthen the royal office & subjected its clergy to his personal control.

By 961, Otto had conquered the Kingdom of Italy & extended his realm’s borders to the north, east, & south. The patronage of Otto facilitated a limited cultural renaissance of the arts & architecture. Following the example of Charlemagne, Otto was crowned Emperor in 962 by Pope John XII in Rome.

Death-day in 1840 of Casper David Fredrich, a German Romantic landscape painter, considered the most important artist of his generation. He came of age during a period when, across Europe, a growing disillusionment with materialistic society was giving rise to a new appreciation of spirituality. This shift in ideals was often expressed through a re-evaluation of the natural world, as a “divine creation, to be set against the artifice of human civilization”.

Friedrich’s paintings characteristically set a human presence in diminished perspective amid expansive landscapes, reducing the figures to a scale that, directs “the viewer’s gaze towards their metaphysical dimension.”

Cinco de Mayo observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza. The victory of the smaller Mexican force against a larger French force was a boost to morale for the Mexicans.

Yes, dear friends, it’s gone viral & the next wave is coming…And this time covering your human countenance with a mask won’t help. Some of the first symptoms appear as a profound antipathy toward the mass-media. The tried & true tests like statistical graphs & manufactured death tolls; 5G, ‘tracing’ & mass vaccinations, stock market crashes…etc. now seem to be an illusion, compared with the light you generate.

This new global pandemic brings a sudden flash of clear thinking & compassionate action. ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY – Past/Present/Future:

250 AD – Feast day of St. Florian the patron of Upper Austria, chimney sweeps; soapmakers, & firefighters. The “Florian Principle” (known in German language areas as “Sankt-Florians-Prinzip”) is named after a somewhat ironic prayer to Saint Florian: “O heiliger Sankt Florian, verschon’ mein Haus, zünd’ and’re an”, equivalent to “O Holy St. Florian, please spare my house, set fire to another one”. This saying is used in German much like the English “not in my back yard. The name Florian is considered synonymous with fireman in the German speaking world. In some cases call for a fireman will actually be spoken as calls for Florian.

1493 – The Division of the world: The Spanish-born Pope Alexander VI decreed in a Papal Bull that all lands west & south of a pole-to-pole line one hundred leagues west & south should belong to Spain. Portugal objected because its status & rights had been omitted & overlooked. King John II of Portugal began negotiations directly with King Ferdinand & Queen Isabella of Spain to push the line west & allow him to lay claim to lands discovered east of it. The result was the Treaty of Tordesillas.

1875 – Birthday of Hermann Beckh a pioneering German Tibetologist & prominent promoter of anthroposophy.

Due to his unusual memory skills, & his many interests & talents, his peers encouraged him towards law. It became clear to him that he was not made out to be a judge when he had to impose a fine on a poor married couple for stealing wood. He paid the couple’s fine out of his own pocket & left his position.

He later took up the study of oriental languages, Indology, & Tibetology. In 1907, he received his doctorate with a thesis on Kalidasa’s poem Meghaduta.

In 1911, he met Rudolf Steiner & Friedrich Rittelmeyer, which led to his intensive study of Steiner’s work. On Christmas Day, 1912, he became a member of the Anthroposophical Society.

In 1916, Beckh was drafted into military service, shortly after he published two volumes about the Buddha & his teachings. Stationed in the Balkans, he was called to work in the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. Due to his task, he learned the Scandinavian languages in addition to: English, French, Italian, Classical Greek & Latin, Hebrew, Egyptian, Sanskrit, Tibetan & Old Persian.

From 1920 onwards, he worked as a lecturer of anthroposophy. In March 1922, he joined the Circle of Priests of The Christian Community & worked until his death as a priest, seminary teacher, lecturer, independent researcher & writer. In 1928, “Mark’s Gospel: The Cosmic Rhythm” was published, in which he related the narration of the gospel of Mark to the path of the sun through the twelve zodiac signs. In Beckh’s exposition, Mark’s gospel could be understood more in connection with the “earthly” signs seen in the planets, & John’s gospel more in connection with the “stellar” zodiac of the fixed stars. At the time of The Mystery of Golgotha the planets & the constellations were together, not separate as they are now, due to the progression of the equinoxes. In the Introduction to the sequel, “The Cosmic Rhythm, the Secrets of the Stars & Earth in the Gospel of John” (1930), Beck favorably mentioned Wilhelm Kaiser’s “Die geometrischen Vorstellungen in der Astronomie” (1928), & referred to The Novices of Sais, of Novalis. Beckh died in Stuttgart, in 1937.

We must become familiar with these facts and also with complementary colors. If someone has a lot of red spots imagine that they’re green, or imagine that projecting limbs are cavities. One imagines the green in a plant as reddish purple and a brown root as dark blue.

One should permeate all of these exercises with reverence and devotion. That’s the feeling with which we can hope to approach the world’s Godhead; otherwise God remains an abstraction to mere thinking.
