A Good Man

Franklin Bell

Greetings on this Father’s Day

Every culture has its own history of Festive celebrations revealing a treasury of archetypes that model how to be in the world – which then informs what the world will become. These narratives & festivals were how social patterns used to be formed – Before the distorted lens of the screen, or a bought & sold history written by the conquers, like we see more & more today. Thru the revival of archetypes which models what it means to be a ‘good’ human being, we impart to our children who they can become.

Today being Father’s Day, let us ponder specifically what it can mean to be ‘a good man’? How can a good man be the ‘Good Father’ – to himself, his children & for the world?

I love this short list of Archetypes:

King
Warrior
Magician
Lover

What are some their Qualities?

The Benevolent King: Shows Leadership, has Strategic Vision – based on Divine Wisdom, is Decisive, Inspired, a Fair Judge, Charismatic, full of Integrity, Unselfish – Empowering of others – a Blessing bestower, Humble, Holds Authority with Order & Structure…I particularly love this idea of Benediction – A King who gives a blessing bestows upon another the right to go forward & make the best use of their talents to get the job done -Recognizing that ‘Authority’ must come from within.

The Protector/Warrior: Is above all Courageous, Merciful, Strong in Body, Soul & Spirit, Disciplined, Determined, Reliable, Focused, a Tactical Risk Taker who can think on their feet, Gaining achievement thru Endurance, & Loyality…A good warrior displays valor – rather than being driven by blood-lust – they are reliable & loyal, rather than seeking to take over. The Warrior has total focus on implementing the required tactics to accomplish the strategy set by their King/Queen. Strength & endurance needs to be physical, mental & emotional. Their characteristic quality of service enhances their sense of duty.

The Magician: Must be Wise, Intuitive, Perceptive, Insightful, Knowledgeable, is inwardly Powerful, has earned Mystic vision, using his gifts for the higher good, a Respected – helpful Mentor…The Magician can be a teacher bestowing knowledge & wisdom to better ‘know thyself’. This is empowering to others & brings out the ‘magic’ in them. In cultural myth, the Magician seeks wisdom not for its own sake, but so that they may better understand, serve & mentor. Many Magicians have a supernatural gift seen perhaps thru music, art, speech, charisma…They use this ability to enhance the lives of others rather than for personal gain.

The Lover: is Authentic, Compassionate, Affectionate, Caring, Empathic, Altruistic, Open-Hearted, Honest, Trustworthy, able to appreciate Beauty, Vital, Generous, Celebratory…The unconditional Lover shares these qualities to enhance & improve the lives of others – Fostering the energy & power for living in harmony. Their appreciation for the beauty they see around them is an inspiration to others – The earth, the sky, the passing breeze.  The Lover takes the moments of beauty seen in the little things, like the smile of a child, or an old lady, & makes sure that moment is not missed. Living in Celebration is the quality of being able to stop, breathe, look around & see what joy there is in life. The Lover knows how to comfort & sustain.

I love this song by XTC – Greenman

What would it be like to bring the qualities of: King – Warrior – Magician – Lover, to life in the world?

Blessings on all who embody the Good Father!

translated
(with added titles) by Roy Sadler
SUMMER SOLSTICE
Midsummer Wisdom
v11
It rests this sun’s high hour with you
to recognise the call of wisdom:
‘In you, absorbed in worlds where beauty lies,
through all your feeling realise:
the human I can lose itself
and find itself within the Cosmic I’.

The mirror verse.
EPIPHANY III
Intuiting The Spring
v42
The soul in gloom of winter moved
to bring to light her life’s own force
her impulse is to guide it far
and in the dark forefeel
through warmth of heart
the life the senses will reveal.

  1. Hi Hazel,

Thanks for drawing attention to the death day of Michael Bauer:

“1929 – Deathday of Michael Bauer – German teacher, author , lecturer, president after Carl Unger of the Anthroposophical Society.”

The reason that Michael Bauer replaced Carl Unger as president of the Stuttgart branch of the GAS in Germany in 1929 is because Carl Unger was murdered on January 4, 1929, when he went to Nuremberg to give a lecture with the intent to renew the anthroposophical movement in Germany. Carl Unger resigned his office as general secretary of the Stuttgart branch because the Vorstand in Dornach refused his request to go to Nuremberg in order to renew lecture activity in Germany. He felt it was imperative to do so in order to attempt to offset the rise of national socialism as seen in the country, and would soon gain ground as early as 1930. Carl Unger’s lecture was about how anthroposophy leads to threefolding. It was considered a threat, and he was murdered at the age of 50, and leaving a wife and four children. I do revere this man on father’s day because he was subtracted from a family where he dwelt with extreme intent of heart, and as Rudolf Steiner’s main student and potential successor. The rest is history.

    1. Happy Father’s Day to you dear Steve.
Thank you for holding the soul of Carl Unger so strongly. His murder was the precursor to the many atrocities that would occur thru the Nazis party in Germany.

I have just re-read ‘The Spear of Destiny’ which gives amazing insights into the workings of evil rising at that time.
