Light for the New Millennium

1932 – Deathday of Eliza von Moltke, esoteric pupil of Rudolf Steiner who received the “post-mortem” communications from Rudolf Steiner. Wife of General Helmuth von Moltke, The Younger. See “Light for the New Millennium: Rudolf Steiner’s Association with Helmuth & Eliza von Moltke” This collection of letters and documents deals with themes that are of tremendous significance for our time: especially karma and reincarnation; life after death; the workings of evil; the destiny of Europe; and the hidden causes of the First World War. It also tells the story of the meeting of two great men: Rudolf Steiner and Helmuth von Moltke (1848-1916), Chief of the general staff of the German army during the outbreak of the First World War, who was dismissed from his post in 1914 following disagreements with the Kaiser.

Moltke first came into contact with Steiner through Eliza. Steiner’s connection to Moltke included personal meetings, letters, and clairvoyant messages after the General’s death. These communications are reproduced here in full, along with a key interview with Rudolf Steiner for Le Matin and commentaries and essays by Jürgen von Grone, Jens Heisterkamp, Johannes Tautz and T. H. Meyer.

Calendar of the Soul Tenth Week [May 29, 2016 – June 04, 2016]

To summer’s radiant heights

  The sun in shining majesty ascends;

  It takes my human feeling

Into its own wide realms of space.

  Within my inner being stirs

  Presentiment which heralds dimly,

  You shall in future know:

A godly being now has touched you.

In thinking about: “The Working of the Spirit” by Michael Burton & Marke Levene. Part 4  (program for the Chicago reading)

In Scene 3 we become aware thru the interaction between chief executive Hilary & the esoteric teacher Benedictus that change in the outer world must start with personal change. Then it is possible to look at the question of creating new social forms in which the spirit can be received.

The spiritual teacher gives us a glimpse into the inner workings of the present & the possibilities opening for the future. Our current conflicts are negatively affecting The Spirit of the Elements, showing outwardly the shadow side of the  new capacities trying to be born in humanity. Yet on a personal level these imbalances are an opportunity for a furthering of initiation, preparing the way for the true ideals of brotherhood to be born.

There are powers that are hostile to these ideals, “That’s why the creation of loving relationships is the highest and most noble activity that our work can engender, more important than anything else”. Then Benedictus asks Hilary “What’s the underlying truth behind every one of your work-practices? Do the relationships that unfold in your factory, and the words spoken there, enliven the lives of your workers, or do they stifle free initiative and creativity?”

There needs to be an emphasis on the moral forces that must guide the new technology, but we have to realize these moral forces within ourselves. “Society changes not thru outer agitation but from human beings acting out of their own threefoldness.” We must continue to strive to apply this in our daily lives, remembering that Spiritual beings long to become active thru us when human beings work together.

This is the cue for Theodora & Strader who work from the spiritual realms to chime in showing their support & reminding Hilary that the Christ Impulse is there even if he can’t see it.

Of course whenever powerful forces of love & light enter, it seems the adversarial powers are not far behind. And so it is that Ahriman enters with discouraging words that play on old fears.

Tomorrow we explore Strader’s after-death experiences in Kamaloca.

Until soon

In thinking about: “The Working of the Spirit” by Michael Burton & Marke Levene. Part 3  (program for the Chicago reading)

For instance, I was struck with the idea in scene 2, that a Guardian Angel could be influenced by the lower double. This concept has me wrestling with the notion of the ‘fallen angel’. Can these retarded beings actually be someone’s Guardian Angel? Or is it more about the stage of evolution of the human being? It certainly rings true that as the anthroposopher continues to strive & grow, so too does their Guardian Angel & their double.

This pivotal scene of “The Working of the Spirit” depicts the loving relationship between Capesius & his angel, acknowledging how they have evolved together thru thick & thin over many lifetimes. The exchange like a dance, is so powerful. The image of the angel offering the silver cup, which will empower Capesius to be a greater help to others in the world, depicts the reward of an initiatory achievement to be used in future lives, is a blessing.

Then the double enters.  Can we endure the pain of self-truth? Are we willing to see the times when we missed the mark, the patterns, the connections, the habits, the archetypes, the karma? Can we see clearly as to what is behind these things, enabling us to name the forces that work thru us, from the hierarchies to the adversarial powers?

Marie says: “Healing comes in stages slowly to the wounded heart. Whole lives are spent making amends. But one who looks with courage on the errors of the past, enduring all the pain self-knowledge brings, takes on such tasks as work to heal the Earth.” This opens the way for her soul forces, Astrid, Philia, & Luna to enter, bringing their blessings to the striving souls of Johannes & Capesius.

Next we meet the spiritual crisis of Felix, who in working to overcome his antipathy to the world of the senses, has become the janitor in Hilary’s factory. He mourns the loss of his spiritual sight, (which also happened to Theodora after she married Strader in Steiner’s 2nd mystery drama “The Guardian of the Soul”)  We recognize this loss as a compensation, a step on the path that brings the opportunity for new growth, calling once again on the mysteries gifts of Felicia’s storytelling to bring a healing balm.

Tomorrow we look deeper into the struggle to bring Hilary’s factory into a new social form.

Until soon

Birthday of Mary Magdalene  – According to T.H. Meyer & ‘The Present Age’

Domenico di Michelino Dante and His Poem (1465) fresco, in the dome of the church of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence (Florence's cathedral). Dante Alighieri is shown holding a copy of his epic poem The Divine Comedy. He is pointing to a procession of sinners being lead down to the circles of Hell on the left. Behind him are the seven terraces of Purgatory, with Adam and Eve representing Earthly Paradise on top. Above them, the sun and the moon represent Heavenly Paradise, whilst on the right is Dante's home city of Florence. The illustration of Florence is self referencial, depicting the recently completed and much celebrated cathedral dome inside which the fresco is painted.
Domenico di Michelino

1265 – Birthday of Dante (thought to be reincarnated as King John of Saxony. Beyond his political work, John was busy with literature. Under the pseudonym Philalethes he translated to German Dante’s Divine Comedy)

Philalethes

1564 – Deathday of John Calvin an influential French theologian & pastor during the Protestant Reformation, called Calvinism, influenced by the Augustinian tradition. The aim of Calvin’s political theory was to safeguard the rights and freedoms of ordinary people.

1840 – Deathday of Paganini an Italian violinist, violist, guitarist, & composer – the most celebrated violin virtuoso of his time.

1907 – Bubonic plague breaks out in San Francisco

Rachel Carson

1907 – Birthday of Rachel Carson, American biologist, environmentalist, and author. Although she was not an anthroposophist per say, Rachel Carson had a strong association with Marjorie Spock,  attending her study groups over the years.

1933 – The Century of Progress World’s Fair opens in Chicago

1933 – New Deal: The U.S. Federal Securities Act is signed into law requiring the registration of securities with the Federal Trade Commission.

1941 – World War II: U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaims an “unlimited national emergency”

~I follow the path to the Sun

Moment by moment, Season to season

But to travel East is to grieve in darkness.

I find my star radiating from the Earth Heart

Shining in the rainbow clouds

Working in my skin.

And so I reflect with the Moon, cycle by cycle

Toting fertile moisture in the mix

My skeleton filling with the resurrection

Knowing

I shall not fall to forgetfulness.

In thinking about: “The Working of the Spirit” by Michael Burton & Marke Levene. Part TWO (program for the Chicago reading)

When I 1st started working with Rudolf Steiner’s 4 Mystery Dramas, it was as if ‘How to Know Higher Worlds’ had come alive for me. I saw in the various characters, living examples of the many tributaries on the path of initiation – Each soul reflecting a different temperament, embodying a specific stream. I’d ask myself, ‘Am I a “fox” or a “nobleman”, “upright”, “humble”, “loyal”, “god-fearing” or “enspirited”, “provincial”, “prudent”, or a “firebrand”, “truthful” or “bold”…

Of course I saw myself in them all. And I longed to be a “Bearer of the Spiritual Elements” like Benedictus, or the “Bearer of the Elements of Soul”, like Maria. I’d ask myself: How can I strive to live more fully in the will forces, like the scientist Strader or truly exemplify the beauty of consecration to devotion & sacrifice?

And yes, I had my sympathies & antipathies to certain personalities, a wonderful reflection of what I had to work on in myself. I remember wanting to shake Johannes into shape. Like in a movie where you know the character is in trouble, I wanted to scream out to him “Yo Johnny wake up that’s Lucifer talking.”

I had a particular antipathy to Capesius, so I was excited when I 1st heard that in “The Working of the Spirit” I was to play his Angel. I thought perhaps I would gain more insight into what I was pushing up against. Although I ended up with other characters to portray, I still took the time meditatively to look into that relationship. More on that later.

It made real sense to me that “The Working of the Spirit” was set “spiritually around the time of the death of Rudolf Steiner (1925)”. And I was very excited to see emphasis placed on the idea of social three-folding, which I am hoping can become a spark that gives birth to this eternal flame, healing many aspects of life that we meet today in the 21st century. It was interesting to see the main characters listed according to where they stand regarding the three spheres of society –

  1. the cultural & spiritual sphere
  2. the sphere of human rights
  3. the economic sphere

Another compelling component is that “most of the main characters also appear in earlier lives in Delphi in the Sixth Century BCE & in Athens a little before 400 BCE”. To see Theodora as the Delphic Oracle is right in line with Steiner’s insights into her enigmatic individuality.

Also it is important for our time to delve into the source behind the Platonic & Aristotelian streams so that we can bridge the gap between them.

There is so much more to say. We’ll see where tomorrow will take us.

Until soon

“In giving speech artistic shape and form the healthy co-operation and harmonization of body, soul and spirit becomes manifest. The body shows whether it is able to incorporate the Spirit correctly; the soul reveals whether the spirit lives in it truly; and the Spirit is vividly present working directly into the physical. Those taking part in speech courses have a direct personal experience of the revelation of Anthroposophy in the activity of Man. Here it may be regarded as a testing of Anthroposophy that it is in a position to enable the art of speech to come to life again, in its full significance.” ~Rudolf Steiner

In thinking about: “The Working of the Spirit” by Michael Burton & Marke Levene. Part 1 – (program for the Chicago reading)

A troupe of about twenty actors, came into Chicago on May 18th 2016, including folks like: Glen Williamson, Matthew Dexter & Kim Synder-Vine, with director  Henry-Cameron Allen from Gloucester, Massachusetts, & writer Michael Hedley Burton, from Australia, with producer Marke Levene & eurythmist Barbara Richardson… Everyone open to taking on whatever the play needed…Ensouling our branch with their graceful presence, striving thru 12 hour days in rehearsal, weaving together in an intentional karmic-knot for the Readers Theater production that auspiciously premiered on the day of the Full Buddha Moon, May 21st, 2016.

It brought back for me the grand experience of 2 years ago:

I wrote this 13 August 2014, Dear Sisters and Brothers-

I stood in a circle with a cast and crew of over 69 souls involved with the Mystery Dramas in Spring Valley, NY; in what felt like the center of the Temple of the New Mysteries. Throughout the tech week, on into the 10 day conference, I held a picture of the legend of Christian Rosenkreutz – how every hundred years his tomb is opened, signaling a sea-change in consciousness; knowing that it’s been over a hundred years since the seeds for the Mystery Dramas were sown by Rudolf Steiner with the help of Marie Steiner and their crew across the sea.

It was fitting that the 1st play “The Portal of Initiation – A Rosicrucian Drama” was performed on the eve of the Full Corn Moon, affirming that those seeds planted a century ago have now been reaped in bounty – brought into fullness through our collective harvest.

We can most certainly say that the Seals have now been opened on the Mystery Dramas here in North America!

I feel honored that my small thread was woven into this historic karmic knot, to help create the tapestry of these dramas, which reveal in artistic form, the core of anthroposophy, and especially Steiner’s teachings on karmic relationships.

May this poem, written on our ‘free day’, remind us that the drama of initiation is enacted by all of us every day on the stage of our lives.

‘I see your star’

Wisdom in Love

Hope in Truth

Truth in Christ

Faith

That sacrifice will answer

The call of pain

To gentle the knot

In patient thankfulness

‘Remain with me united’

To root

‘The Uprooted’

Resounding anew

The song of Cosmic Will

While choirs of Angels

Weave Love’s grace

To balance light with warmth

In us.

The Buddha (whose name means: *The Awakened One* or *One who Knows*) is regarded as the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He was born in 563 BC on the Full Moon of May in Vaisakh. Traditionally, Buddha’s Birthday is known as Wesak or Visakah Puja (Buddhas Day).

Wesak, the major Buddhist festival of the year, celebrates the birth, enlightenment and death of the Buddha on one and the same day, when the Sun is in Taurus, and the Moon in Scorpio.

The Full Moon in May is a mystically auspicious time – This ‘Buddha Moon’ is considered to be the greatest moment of spiritual contact for the entire year. Great polarities are said to be synthesized and consequently united at this festival. Hope is revived in the world, and great seeds of beauty, truth, and goodness are planted within us — qualities needed for the unity of humankind.

Ancient Wisdom asserts that there will be a new coming of the World Avatar and those beings who assist them. But the reality set forth and embedded within this festival, is that WE, as a living unit called humanity, are to be that World Avatar, when we can live as “Christ in me”…

The Wesak Festival provides us each year with a reception of the tools of love and wisdom, to fulfill this ancient prophecy. What all the higher beings have done, we can do also, taking up our responsibility as the 10th hierarchy to radiate the Christ Impulse out to all the kingdoms of Earth -becoming like little suns – emanating rays from the very core of our “I”, through the vehicle of our bodies, from our purified hearts, and specifically from our forehead, where our third eye is located. This is the Bulls Eye of Taurus – the Sun of May – and the mystery of the transformative Scorpio Moon.

The Full Buddha Moon is exact at 4:14pm CST, on May 21st 2016, we will see it rise over the Great Inland Sea of Chicago at 7:59pm, and it will set on May 22 at 6:15am.
