Deliberate

“…The hatred and antipathy in the world today can indeed be followed by international love with healing in its wings. This is indeed possible. But we are living in an age when all that is possible must be consciously, deliberately and freely striven for by human beings. There must be knowledge of the conditions requisite for uniting the peoples of the Earth, in order that, as a result of this knowledge, each individual people may help to make the waves of love follow those of hatred.

Human love alone has power to heal the wounds of hatred. If humankind has no wish for this love, chaos will remain. That is the terrible alternative now facing human beings who have knowledge. Those who realize its terrors know that the souls of men dare not sleep, for otherwise, as a result of the powerlessness caused by the sleep into which the souls of the peoples have fallen, the healing waves of love will not be able to flow over the waves of hatred.

Human beings who realize this will acquire the kind of knowledge that flows from a spiritual conception of the relationships between the peoples. They will take this knowledge into their feeling — love for humanity will be born. They will take this knowledge into their will – deeds for humanity will be accomplished.

The evolution of the age, with all the terrible paralysis that is appearing at the present time, places a solemn duty before the soul: to gather together all that can unite humankind in love and array it in opposition to the destructive elements that have made their appearance in recent times. This quest for loving unification, for unifying love is not merely a vague feeling. To those who understand the conditions of life today, it is the very highest duty of man.” ~Rudolf Steiner, ‘The Peoples of the Earth in the Light of Anthroposophy’, Stuttgart, March 10th, 1920

In 1962, Karl König offered this verse to the friends in America:
The eternal rays
Of the Holy Spirits of Light
Build the tower of human trust,
Which is formed in our hearts
Out of brotherly love.
The eternal piers
of the helping Spirit-Messengers
Bear the bridge of faithfulness
That arches from I to I
In what we do.
So do we become united and strong
In the work that we have begun
And which we are committed in the spirit
To bring to completion.
May the greeting from soul to soul
Ring through the fellowship of our doing.

Rudolf Steiner’s Lectures on this day (so thankful for rsarchive.org)

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY (From the Calendar of the Soul by Rudolf Steiner & Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

1519 – Death Day of Leonardo da Vinci, Italian painter, sculptor, & architect. “…We know how Leonardo worked at the “Last Supper”. He often went and sat on the scaffolding and brooded for hours in front of the wall, then he would take a brush and make a few strokes and go away again. Sometimes he only went and stared at the picture and went away again. When he was painting the Christ Figure, his hand trembled. Indeed, if we put together all that we can find concerning this subject we must say that neither outwardly nor inwardly was Leonardo happy when painting this world-renowned picture. Now there were people at that time in Milan who were displeased with the slow progress of the picture, for instance a Prior of the monastery, who could not see why an artist could not paint such a picture quickly, and complained to the Duke. He too thought the affair had lasted too long. Leonardo answered: “The picture is to represent Jesus Christ and Judas, the two greatest contrasts; one cannot paint them in one year; there are no models for them in the world, neither for Judas nor for Christ”. After he had been working at the picture for years, he said he did not know whether he could finish it after all! Then he said that if finally he found no model for Judas he could always use the Prior himself! It was thus extraordinarily difficult to bring the picture to a conclusion but within himself Leonardo did not feel happy. For this picture showed the contrast between what lived in his soul and what he was able to represent on the canvas. Here it is necessary to bring forward a hypothesis of Spiritual Science, which may be reached by anyone who studies what can by degrees be learned about this picture.” ~Rudolf Steiner, Leonardo da Vinci, His Spiritual and Intellectual Greatness, At the Turning Point of the New Age

1611 – The King James Version of the Bible is published for the first time in London, England, by printer Robert Barker

1729 – Birthday of Catherine the Great of Russia, the longest-ruling female leader of Russia. The Catherinian Era, is often considered the Golden Age of the Russian Empire & the Russian nobility. She enthusiastically supported the ideals of The Enlightenment, thus earning the status of an enlightened despot. As a patron of the arts she presided over the age of the Russian Enlightenment, a period when the Smolny Institute, the first state-financed higher education institution for women in Europe, was established.

1772 – Birthday of Novalis, the pseudonym & pen name of Georg Philipp Friedrich Freiherr von Hardenberg, poet, author, mystic, & philosopher of Early German Romanticism. His study of mineralogy & management of salt mines in Saxony, was often ignored by his contemporary readers Novalis concerned himself with the scientific doctrine of Johann Gottlieb Fichte, which greatly influenced his world view, transforming Fichte’s Nicht-Ich (German “not I”) to a Du (“you”), an equal subject to the Ich (“I”). This was the starting point for Novalis’ Liebesreligion (“religion of love”) dedicated to his beloved Sophie who died of tuberculosis.

Darren Paulie

Everything beloved is the centre point of a paradise.” – Novalis

Novalis took the name from “de Novali” which was an old family name. The future Baron von Hardenberg was born into a noble German family in lower Saxony. He was sent to a religious school as a boy, but he was stifled by the strict atmosphere and he never adjusted to its severe discipline. He later lived with his uncle who introduced him to the French literature and rational philosophy. He then went to Weissenfels, where his father moved, and entered the Eisleben gymnasium. In 1790-91 he studied law at the University of Jena, where he met Friedrich von Schiller and Friedrich Schlegel. Novalis completed his studies at Wittenberg in 1793.

In the 1790s, the ideas of the French Revolution spread among idealistic intellectual circles throughout Europe, greatly inspiring the young Novalis. He was also deeply moved by reading the mystical philosophical writings of Goethe. Goethe’s book “Wilhelm Meister’s Apprenticeship”, which he read in 1795, influenced him deeply; he considered it the Bible for the “New Age”. In 1795-96 he studied the works of Johann Gottlieb Fichte. At the age of 21 he moved to Tennstädt and took up job in civil service.

When Novalis was a young man, he fell in love with a teenage girl named, appropriately enough, Sophie (Sophia is a personification of the goddess of wisdom, the feminine embodiment of the divine in Western gnostic traditions). His experience of love for the young woman was so deep that it became a transformative, “mystical” experience for the young and impressionable Novalis, whose reading had made him receptive to the concept of ideal love. Sadly, Sophie von Kühn died two years later of tuberculosis.

In 1798 Novalis published a series of philosophical fragments, “Fragmenten”. The loss of his beloved caused an infinitude of pain and sorrow for the hapless young lover, but it also served as strong inspiration and source of creative energy. His “Hymnen an die Nacht” (Hymns to the Night – 1800) was the resultant work. This is a collection of prose, poetry and aphorisms in praise of the sacred encounters with nature, night, sleep, and the magnetic connection between the masculine and the feminine.

Novalis died at the age of 29 of tuberculosis, the same disease that claimed Sophie. He is considered one of the early German Romantics, and he is sometimes referred to as “the prophet of the Romantics”. ~from nicholasjv.com

Philipp Otto Runge’s Der kleine Morgen inspired by Novalis’s ideas
Raphael

“…When we consider the life of Novalis, what an echo we find there of the Raphael life for which Hermann Grimm had so fine an understanding! His beloved dies in her youth. He is himself still young. What is he going to do with his life now that she has died? He tells us himself. He says that his life on Earth will be henceforth to “die after her”, to follow her on the way of death. He wants to pass over already now into the super-sensible, to lead again the Raphael life, not touching the Earth, but living out in poetry his magic idealism. He would fain not let himself be touched by Earth life.

When we read the “Fragments” of Novalis, and give ourselves up to the life that flows so abundantly in them, we can discover the secret of the deep impression they make on us. Whatever we have before us in immediate sense-reality, whatever the eye can see and recognise as beautiful — all this, through the magic idealism that lives in the soul of Novalis, appears in his poetry with a well-nigh heavenly splendour. The meanest and simplest material thing — with the magic idealism of his poetry he can make it live again in all its spiritual light and glory.

And so we see in Novalis a radiant and splendid forerunner of that Michael stream which is now to lead you all, my dear friends, while you live; and then, after you have gone through the gate of death, you will find in the spiritual super-sensible worlds all those others — among them also the being of whom I have been speaking to you today — all those with whom you are to prepare the work that shall be accomplished at the end of the century, and that shall lead mankind past the great crisis in which it is involved.” ~Rudolf Steiner, The Individuality of Elias, John, Raphael, Novalis – The Last Address – Dornach, Michaelmas Eve, 1924

May 2, 1924 – Deathday of Edith Maryon an English sculptor who worked closly with Rudolf Steiner on the carving of the First Goetheanum & on the Scultural Group called The ‘Representative of Humanity’. From Anthrowiki: Edith Maryon grew up as the second of six children of the wealthy master tailor John Simeon Maryon and his wife Louisa Church in central London. She attended a girls’ school and later a boarding school in Geneva, Switzerland . In the 1890s she studied sculpture at the Central School of Design in London , from 1896 at the Royal College of Arts , which she appointed in 1904 as an “Associate”. She went public with sculptural portraits and created reliefs in a classically inspired, traditionalist style.

After first meeting Rudolf Steiner in 1912/13, she moved to Dornach in the summer of 1914 and played a decisive role in the construction of the first Goetheanum . Together with Steiner, she was largely responsible for the design of the well-known large-scale sculpture The Representative of Humanity between Lucifer and Ahriman as well as colored eurythmy figure sculptures, which she also executed in wood. These works are stylistically close to Expressionism . Edith Maryon resisted any haste. For this reason, the work was not destroyed in the fire of the first Goetheanum on New Year’s Eve 1922/23, but has been preserved and is still on display in the (second) Goetheanum today.

When there was a housing shortage in Switzerland, Edith Maryon – together with Paul Johann Bay – designed three houses for employees on Dornacher Hügel between 1920-22. At that time called “English houses”, today they are called eurythmy houses .

Edith Maryon was in constant personal or letter contact with her teacher, Dr. Steiner. In a brotherly and sisterly way, he confided a great deal to her and dedicated some of his texts to her. While working in the sculptor’s studio around 1916, she once saved him from a serious, perhaps fatal, fall. In 1923 (after the burning of the first Goetheanum) Edith Maryon fell seriously ill. At the end of the year she was appointed head of the section for fine arts at the Goetheanum (without being able to hold the office) and died the following year of complications from tuberculosis .

When we tune into the Cycle of the Seasons, we experience that as the Earth breathes out in the Springtime, the beings of nature reach upwards towards the heights. The longing of the human soul also strives to meet this mood of ascension, which attunes all life to the cosmic expanses.

Together we will gain insights in how to rise up to our Higher Self by participating in this harmonizing spring-dialogue between the worlds.

Through this workshop we will learn how humanity will also be transfigured in the fullness of time. The company of the Angelic Hierarchies wait for us, their younger siblings, to ascend, first of all in our thinking, to meet them in fellowship, as they work all the while by our sides.

with Hazel Archer-Ginsberg, & Velsum Voices Lucien Dante Lazar & Ultra-Violet Archer

1 – 2:30 pm Central Time Saturday 27 May 2023 on zoom

We are called to redeem the ether spheres to create an Ecclesia, a chalice for The Sophia. Then the spirit flame can spread out to become what Steiner called a “World Whitsun”, which began in earnest at the Christmas Conference. The Whitsun Festival highlights one of the greatest challenges of being human: placing our individual gifts, in right relationship within the social realm. This challenge is especially strong now during this ‘pandemic’. Our groups striving to know Spiritual Science must work together as a community, to have the possibility to create a new culture where a sacrament is possible in every encounter. Our individual strength is enhanced by weaving our gifts together, kindling our social world in conscious community.

Hazel Archer is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

  1. “Let us consider what would have become of the Jewish people of the Old Testament, if instead of approaching Jahve through Michael they had sought to approach Him directly. They would have become an intolerant people, a national self-seeking people concerned with the aggrandizement of their own nation, a nation thinking only of itself. For Jahve is the God who is connected with all natural things, and in the external historical development of mankind, He manifests His Being through the connection of generations, as it expresses itself in the essential qualities of the people. It was only because the ancient Jewish people desired at that time to approach Jahve through Michael, that they saved themselves from becoming nationally so egoistic that Christ Jesus would not have been able to come forth from among them. Because they had permeated themselves with the Michael power, as this power was in their time, the Jewish people were not so strongly impregnated with forces given over to national egoism, as would have been the case had they turned directly to Jahve.

Today Michael is again the Regent of the World, but it is in a new way that mankind must become related to him. For now Michael is not the countenance of Jahve, but the countenance of Christ Jesus. Today we must approach the Christ-impulse through Michael. In many respects humanity has not yet struggled through to this. Humanity has retained atavistically the old qualities of perception by which Michael could be approached when he was still the intermediary to Jahve; and so today humanity has a false relationship to Michael. This false relationship to Michael is apparent in a very characteristic phenomenon.”

“Michael has undergone a great metamorphosis in our age, and the beginning of his reign signifies a following of Christ down to the earth, and in the future it will signify a walking before Christ’s deeds upon earth. And then one will begin to understand again what “Michael walks before the Lord” means.

In the Old Testament the initiates of Asia said that Michael went before Jehova, just as a man’s face precedes him as his foremost part; for there was a Michael reign before Oriphiel’s. They spoke of Michael as the countenance of Jehova. We must learn to speak of Michael as the countenance of Christ, but we’re in a different age now. Certain things must attain the greatest perfection; we must, as it were, learn to make things productive which couldn’t be productive before.”

“My first visit to Vienna after we had moved to Inzersdorf was for the purpose of buying a greater number of philosophical books. What my heart was now especially devoted to was the first sketch of Fichte’s Wissenschaftslehre. I had got so far with my reading of Kant that I could form a notion, even though immature, of the advance which Fichte wished to make beyond Kant. But this did not greatly interest me. What interested me then was to express the living weaving of the human mind in a sharply outlined mental picture. My strivings after conceptions in natural science had finally brought me to see in the activity of the human ego the sole starting-point for true knowledge. When the ego is active and itself perceives this activity, man has something spiritual in immediate presence in his consciousness – thus I said to myself. It seemed to me that what was thus perceived ought now to be expressed in clear, vivid concepts. In order to find a way to do this, I devoted myself to Fichte’s Theory of Science. And yet I had my own opinions. So I took the volume and rewrote it, page by page. This made a lengthy manuscript”.

    https://rsarchive.org/Books/GA028/English/APC1928/GA028_c03.html

It is interesting that both Novalis, and Rudolf Steiner felt compelled to study Fichte at a young age. Could this be the path from forerunner to successor in leading to the Michael stream that exists today?

  3. Your blog today has a full slate of thoughts to consider, beginning with the title you chose, Deliberate. This is something I’m wrestling with right now, this idea that merely to liberate by itself is not enough – it must be paired with love, which may be the “de” part of the word deliberate. It’s absolutely essential that freedom and love happen simultaneously. I’m learning plenty from the lecture you recommended last week, “Love and its Meaning in the World” (GA 143).

You give two examples of being deliberate – da Vinci’s process of painting the Last Supper, and Maryon’s part in sculpting the Representative of Humanity. I was interested to learn that it was due to her lack of haste, her being deliberate, that the work didn’t perish in the fire. I was also interested in your account of Novalis, by how similar his experience with love was in comparison to Dante – they both fell in love at a young age, and both lost their beloved too soon. Which leads me to what I’ve been wrestling with – it seems to please the Divine to give something precious, then to take it away (think Job). How many times have we seen that? Dante, Novalis, the Christ being, and on and on. Individually, we are tasked with developing our “I”, only to learn that the path of initiation requires that we lose that “I”, making space for our higher “I”, the “I” of the Christ being. As John the baptizer put it, we’re initiated into this process of “He must increase, while I must decrease”. When it comes to freedom and love, we learn that we’ve been liberated, but also that we should be deliberate in our actions; that we shouldn’t be so liberated that we think only of ourselves – we need to consider others in love. In Romans 12:3, Paul tells us “Do not think more highly of yourself than you ought”, and then goes on to speak of our physical body, and how we are only one part of this human organism – some are an eye, some a limb, etc. We’re all interconnected. Somehow, in this “connected” age we’re living in, we’ve lost this knowledge of being interconnected – your Surgeon General today saying that loneliness is now as much a health hazard as smoking a dozen cigarettes a day. Which reminds me – I appreciated that excerpt you began your blog with, especially his closing sentences in the first two paragraphs of the excerpt, about the healing waves of love flowing over the waves of hatred – such a fitting picture for our times.

Thank you Hazel for inspiring such thoughts. The sun is rising in you, with its healing waves of love for humanity. Cheers.

    1. Thank you for your potent reflections.

Yes, my titles are always very deliberate, often a code, which as you have shown, can be taken up & developed to reveal many interrelated correspondences.

I love looking into the birth & death days shared by various individualities which have proven to be portals into these deeply shared connections – clues to be followed up.

It’s beautiful how you also bring in the Bible quotes & then tie it all into the present time we are living in.

Blessings brother – May we continue to inspire & explore & live & love

        1. “The stars are mansions built by Natures’ hand…” from the William Wordsworth poem, on a recent Steiner Books promotion. We live under the “many mansions” up there.

            1. Maverick has me really looking at my stars tonight, along with the array of responses concerning John 14. I can only allude to one idea and it is this one. He wrote: “It seems to please the Divine to give something precious, then to take it away (think Job).

I mean this is really heavy. Yet, what if it can be shown that the Divine never wanted to withdraw anything from Its progeny? Rather, It left It to Its own outcome in the form of Karma, and for the purpose of the process of Individualization in this uniquely Earth sphere, where We get to experience our human evolution, which is always the fourth stage? This rationale proves repeated earth lives, or it is meaningless. Thus, this life is the one that counts now. And, you can see how much we are aware of it. Just look at all this!

              1. It’s interesting to think that when the Luciferic powers 1st came in, it was actually an add on, not a taking away, that has brought in much to overcome, including opening the way to Ahriman which is most prevalent these days. The veil was put across the threshold for a time to give us an opportunity to choose, as Steve mentions, to free ourselves from these add ons.

Job is a powerful story of how human faith can triumph thru adversity. And God’s faith in Job never wavered either. The progressive spiritual beings are rooting for us & thru the grace of Christ we shall overcome & persevere in our striving to become truly human which includes the birthright of our divinity.

              2. Excellent synopsis Hazel. You’re so good with words to describe what we’re experiencing – plenty of reason why you’re the blog writer! An interesting thought you’ve added for us to ponder, about the add-on vs. the taking away. But consider what we lost in order to gain the add-on. As you mention, a veil was placed over the threshold; we lost perfect fellowship with the Divine. In its place, we were left with the longing to return to that perfect fellowship. So we gained the “knowledge of good and evil”, a necessary stage in our development, but we paid a huge price for it. The serpent cunningly told us that we wouldn’t “die”, which was a blatant contradiction to what the Divine had said would happen, what some today would call “alternate facts” – in other words, a lie. We lost our access to the tree of life, the fruit of which was for our healing and longevity. A huge price to pay for some knowledge which we didn’t really need, since we’d been provided with everything we needed in “the garden”.

I used to see the ordeal Job went through as that struggle of faith over adversity, which it is. I’ve now added that this Biblical account was Job’s path to freedom. Along the way, he lost many possessions, children who were taken in their prime, some friends whose advice was way off-base, and the discovery that his wife harbored resentments against G-d. In the end, he was a much better man, and we hope Mrs. Job experienced a similar experience of freedom.

              3. Yes, that longing has been a hallmark for me. I really entered into it thru the AAP work with Steiner’s ‘Inner Realities of Evolution’, & how it all started with the fact that some of the Cherubim had to reject the offering of the Thrones so that eternity could be preserved. It seems that trade offs are a part of the pattern as well as this modeling of self-less sacrifice.

And I love how you connect the 1st big lie to our current situation with ‘alternative facts’. Haha, another thing to discern in the puzzle that is the blueprint of our evolution.

This idea of Job’s path to freedom is such a powerfully enlightened way of looking at this archetype. Thank you. And I do believe that we are meant to help each other even if we are at different levels in our ability to rise to our higher self & the goal of Love & Freedom…

              4. I think we have to put It squarely on the Shoulders of the LORD God, who, after the Seven Days of God’s perfect creation, which included making Man in His Image, turned the whole process over to the Lord God, “in the day that the LORD God made earth and heaven”. Genesis 2:4. Now, it further says: 5 Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the Lord God had not sent rain upon the earth, and
there was no man to cultivate the ground”. So, who is this LORD
God, but Jahve, who would eventually come to Earth as the Christ. Thus, it seems that obstacles were factored into this original Perfection from nearly the beginning of it all. A tough, hard climb.

              5. This is a great line of thought you’ve mentioned about Jahve, which could be helpful for us all to be clear on. My recollection from Steiner’s material is that Jahve sacrificed remaining behind with the other Elohim, who remained behind in the Sun, and is the being represented by what we refer to as the Moon, after it broke away from the Earth. I personally see this as a sacrifice on his part, since taking on this Moon role meant no longer being a part of the whole life-giving process which the Sun represents for us as human beings, but that’s just the way I see it. It also explains for me why Jahve remains so hidden, such that Israel always believed that no man could look on Jahve and live. In a Moon existence, this seems much more plausible.

You infer that Jahve became the Christ, but again my understanding is that the Christ is composed of the other six Elohim who remained behind in the Sun. I’d have to do some looking to find it, but read this recently (not sure, but it may have been in the GA 143 lecture that Hazel recommended, Love and its Meaning in the World).

              6. On second thought, I’ve also been doing some reading of GA 108 (The Gospel of St. John), and GA 112 (The Gospel of St. John and its Relation to the Other Gospels), so it could have been there that I came across the previous info I just mentioned.

              7. OK so we know from spiritual science that the Spirits of Form had a lot to do with our creation & I think this is what you may be refering to as regards the Elohim connected with the sun realm, but I agree with Maverick YHVH comes in later…

Also don’t forget that the Pistis Sophia descibes the Divine Sophia as being the helper in Creation…

The Christ or Logos is One of the Trinity – The godhead before creation – read the Gospel of John…

              8. Found the passage I’d read, GA 103, Lecture 3, The Mission of the Earth.

“When the ancient Moon had completed its evolution, there were seven great beings of this kind who had progressed far enough to pour forth love. Here we touch upon a deep mystery which Spiritual Science reveals. In the beginning of the Earth-evolution, there was on the one side the childlike humanity which was to receive love and become ready for the reception of the ego — and on the other side there was the sun which separated from the earth and rose to a more exalted existence. Seven principle Spirits of Light, who at the same time were the dispensing Spirits of Love, were able to evolve upon this sun. Only six of them, however, made the sun their dwelling-place and what streams down to us in the physical light of the sun contains within it the spiritual force of love from these six Spirits of Light or, as they are called in the Bible, the six Elohim. One separated from the others and took a different path for the salvation of humanity. He did not choose the sun but the moon for his abode. And this Spirit of Light, who voluntarily renounced life upon the sun and chose the moon instead, is none other than the one whom the Old Testament calls “Jahve” or “Jehova.” This Spirit of Light who chose the moon as a dwelling-place is the one who from there pours ripened wisdom down upon the earth, thus preparing the way for love. Now, let us consider for a moment this mystery which lies behind the outer facts.”

              9. From GA103, lecture three:

Now, let us consider for a moment this mystery which lies behind the outer facts.

The night belongs to the moon and it belonged to the moon to a much greater degree in that ancient time when the human being was not yet able to receive the force of love in the direct rays of the sun. At that time he received the reflected force of ripened wisdom from the moonlight. This ripened wisdom streamed down upon him from the moonlight during the time of night-consciousness. Therefore, Jahve is called the Ruler of the Night who prepared humanity for the love that was later to manifest during full waking-consciousness. Thus we can look back to that ancient past in human evolution when spiritually that event occurred which is merely symbolized by the heavenly bodies, the sun on the one side, the moon on the other. (See drawing). During the night, at certain times, the moon sends down to us the reflected force of the sun, but it is the same light which also shines upon us directly from the sun. Thus in ancient times, Jahve or Jehova reflected the force of matured wisdom, the force of the six Elohim, and sent this force down into human beings while they slept, preparing them to become capable later, by degrees, of receiving the power of love during waking-day consciousness.”

              10. Hi Maverick,

It looks like we had the same reference in mind! So, you see, if this all goes back to the Ancient Moon evolution, then YHWH came before, and not after. Genesis is, in large respects, about the workings of this Being, affixed with the designation, “Lord God”, Elohim, and even “Adonai”. The main purport is to show that the original 7 Days of Creation were extended by this “Lord God” into an 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Day. Thus, 12 Days in all makes up an evolutionary cycle. The first evolutionary cycle ended with chapter 3 of Genesis, and the expulsion from the Garden of Eden.

I know that we have had this discussion before, and maybe we can extend it this time for greater meaning. Suffice to say, so-called “original sin” has nothing to do with Adam and Eve disobeying the Lord God. This was an inevitability, and only in the hands of the Eight Ecumenical Council of 869 AD was it twisted to give the necessary authority to the Roman church. As you can see, this false authority has passed down to all the churches, and even secular science over these last 1154 years. That is why Steiner made such a big deal about it.

              11. I agree – “original sin” didn’t begin with Adam & Eve. From Steiner’s indication, it began with a Sun-demon named Sorat, a being much more powerful than Lucifer and Ahriman, and who probably originated in another cosmos. I need to do more research on this being.

              12. As I referenced earlier, Steiner gives a good picture of this ‘Original Sin’ in his lectures “Inner Realities of Evolution”.
Cain & Abel were simply recapitulation on a lower level the rejection of the sacrifice of the Thrones by some of the Cherubim.
Steiner is clear about the entering in at that time of the adversarial influences.
To take it further from the idea of ‘Original Sin’ & instead call it the ‘Primal Wound’, gives me many insights.

I wrote a series of essays about this it’s facinating:

I started the introduction to the series on Martinmas, & then it goes from there.

              13. The Corruption of Mankind

Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. 7 The Lord said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. Genesis 6

              14. In this somewhat dark passage, how comforting it is to come to the last sentence, that begins with “But Noah … “. Where would we be without Noah? Fortunately for us, there was one human being who was found worthy of some favor.

              15. Yet, the Church would have it be that “original sin” began with A & E. You known the story, as proclaimed in Genesis, chapter 3.

Yet, this really only shows how the future must unfold, and how these two led to the next generations. Chapter five, after the interlude in chapter four, with Cain and Abel.

This eventually leads to 869, which Steiner clearly indicates here as the cover for the split in the cosmic intelligence, which the Church found a convenient explanation.
