Exploding the Mithras Myth : Strange Notions

Michael as Mithras

Ahura Mazdah spake to Zarathustra: “When I created Mithras, who possesses the cosmic intelligence, I created him to be as venerable, as praiseworthy as Myself: Ahura Mazda”.

Zarathustra looked into the brilliant light & declared: “Him, the powerful Yazata (= worthy of worship or veneration), the mighty Mithras towering above all creatures, I shall honor Him Who owns the wide fields of the intelligences, Who knows the right sayings, Who is silent,  yet earnest, Who has a thousand ears, Who is fair, Who has ten thousand eyes, Who stands on a broad rampart, Who is mighty and sleepless and vigilant.

Mithras "deo sol invictus" = god of the invincible sun. | Gods and goddesses, History, Ancient history

Mithras we look to: Him Who owns wide fields of eternity, the vigilant one, Whose dwelling is as wide as the universe. It is built within matter. It is spacious, exposed to no needs, radiant, and offering shelter all around. Eight helpers of Mithras are dwelling as his spies on all the mountains, on all the ramparts. …

Mithras, the owner of wide fields of light, drives around raising His arms for the sake of safety. He guides His fair chariot, able to withstand all dangers and encrested with golden ornaments, to the radiant House of Praise. The chariot is drawn by four white steeds which are immortal and enjoy the nourishment of the spirit. Their front hoofs are fashioned of gold, their hind ones of silver.”

The story of the Roman God, Mithras, is similar to the tale of Jesus Christ and his resurrection. Born at the winter solstice and re… | Roman gods, History, Deities

Then are enumerated the hosts accompanying Mithras at the right and left as he descends. The story goes on: In the chariot of Mithras, who owns wide fields of universe, there are a thousand bows…Moving through the air they fly on the head of the Devas. In the chariot of Mithras, who owns wide fields of intelligences, there are a thousand arrows, golden-pointed, furnished with vulture feathers, set with barbs, beautifully fashioned…Moving through the air, they fly on the heads of the Devas. (The same is said of spears, axes, daggers, clubs, and clubs with a hundred studs.)

Ancient World History: Persian Myth

Sorely afraid is the evil-doing Anra Mainyav (=Ahriman) and all the other evil beings. Ahriman shivers in fear declaring: “Let us in no wise expose ourselves to the blows of Mithras, who owns wide fields of light, waxing and working earnest for our despair. Mayest thou not, O Mithras, wax furious and send blows against us, thou, who art the most valiant of the Yazata and ownest wide fields of light.”

– From the Avesta, the primary collection of religious texts of Zoroastrianism.

Zarathustra, Revealing the Sacred Names of Mithras in the fight against Ahriman: “Mayest thou bestow grace upon me, providence and destiny, when I am writing down these first transmitted Mysteries. I am writing them down for my child, Immortality, the Mystic worthy of this our might, which the great God Helios Mithras has given to me at the hands of his Archangel, so that I, an eagle, may enter Heaven and envisage all”. (Then it is said of Mithras:)

Mithras vs Christ

“O Lord, Who hast closed with the spirit-breath the fiery keys of Heaven, thou two-bodied One, reigning over the fire, the light’s creator and guardian, breathing light, invigorated by fire, spirit-radiant, fire-rejoicing, radiantly beauteous, light-dweller, flame-whirler, light-creating, fire-planting, fire-enraged, lightning-swept, light-glorified, light-expanded, light-supporting, star-conqueror: Reveal to me the names that have not been known to mortal nature; the names never pronounced by a human tongue in lucid language, never pronounced by a human sound, or a human voice. Reveal to me the eternally living and reverenced names of you O great servant of Ahura Mazda and of man. – From a Mithras Liturgy of the Avesta.

Are you a Free Thinker?

Freedom Oil Painting By Abed Alem | absolutearts.com
Abed Ahem

So dear friends – To think or not to think, that is the question?!?

Often we think we are thinking, when we are actually rearranging our prejudices, or justifying our opinions based on sympathies or antipathies. – Often we are regurgitating a societal norm, or simply parroting unconscious propaganda.

We think we are thinking when we are merely trying to rationalize our unconsciously generated, habitual feelings – building defense mechanisms to warrant hatred, alleviate anxiety, fear or doubt.

The Thinker by Amy Smith Creative Action Network
Amy Smith

I am most certainly still learning how to think. And I often ask myself: What does it mean to be a free thinker? Well, it isn’t what the current label holds- it’s not willy-nilly or lazy.

How can we steadily become more objective; a better researcher; more precise in our use of language, a better evaluator of what’s true; more humble & able to take in all perspectives?

How can we formulate useful questions?

How can we objectively critique rampant scientism – that distortion of true
science, even as we make rigorous use of the spiritual scientific method, with its
beautiful, clean, elegant approach to assessing the world.

The effort to become a better thinker is hard work. It’s an art, it’s a science & it must seek the spirit behind matter.

During this pandemonium, at this time of the upcoming elections, I have been reworking Rudolf Steiner’s seminal book, “The Philosophy of Freedom (or Spiritual Activity)” This great 20th century initiate explores the nature of human freedom by saying “that an action, of which the person does not know why he performs it, cannot be free,” & asking what happens when a person becomes conscious of their motives for acting. Steiner proposes that thru introspective observation we can become conscious of the motivations of our actions, & that the sole possibility of human freedom, must be sought in an awareness of the motives of our actions.

Steiner discusses how an awareness of the division between mind, or subject, & world, or object, gives rise to a desire to re-establish a unity between these polarities. After criticizing solutions to this problem provided by dualism, Steiner suggests that only by locating nature’s manifestations within our subjective being can we overcome this division. This is one of the secrets of Michaelmas, expounded on much later by Steiner in ‘Michael & the Soul Forces of man’.

Can we simultaneously observe thinking, & our thoughts about thinking?

Pin by Sudhir Kumar on 1/52 Painting | Painting, Art, Water painting

Normally we don’t pay attention to the process of thinking, only its results, the thoughts themselves: “The first observation which we make about thinking is this: that it is the unobserved element in our ordinary mental and spiritual life“. Steiner connects this “first observation” to the fact that thinking is entirely due to our own activity. It does not appear before us unless we ourselves produce it. The thinker & the observer of the thinker are one & the same. This is what Steiner calls the transparency of our thinking process. If we are unable to do this, we think of thinking as a brain-process.

Pin on self portrait ideas

Human beings are two-sided, as they both think & also perceive. The two activities together give a complete view of the world. Knowledge is the union of what is produced in thinking, the concept, & what is produced in perceiving, the percept.

We can become conscious of our thought processes in a way that we can’t yet achieve in our feelings, will or sense perceptions.

Steiner proposes that the apparent dualism of experience can be overcome by discovering the inner & initially hidden unity of perception & thinking. By observing a thinking process sufficiently intensively, perceiving & thinking can begin to unify. This is knowledge. By the same token, a clear-eyed study of what is revealed in observation can lead to appropriate concepts – thinking.

Pin on Pablo Picasso

With the concept of ‘mental picture’ we arrive at the relation of knowledge to the individual, & to the life of feeling. Steiner describes a mental picture as an intuition or thought related to an individual percept. And so the mental picture is defined as an individualized concept.

Experience is the “sum total” of mental pictures of the individual. But there is more to the human being’s cognitive inventory than percept, concept & mental picture. There is the relation of these things to the “I”; & this is feeling. Feeling gives our personal relation to the world, & we oscillate between it & the “universal world process” given in thinking. The mental pictures we form gives our mental life an individual stamp, & relates it to our own life.

Outsider Art: The Hot List | Christie's
Dano Meltez

The world comes to meet me as a multiplicity, a sum of separate details. As a human being, I am myself one of these details, an entity among other entities. We call this form of the world simply the given and—insofar as we do not develop it through conscious activity but find it ready-made—we call it percept. Within the world of percepts, we perceive ourselves. But if something did not emerge out of this self-percept that proved capable of linking both percepts in general and also the sum of all other percepts with the percept of our self, our self-percept would remain simply one among many. This emerging something, however, is no longer a mere percept; nor is it, like percepts, simply present. It is produced through activity and initially appears linked to what we perceive as our self, but its inner meaning reaches beyond the self. It adds conceptual determinates to individual percepts, but these conceptual determinates relate to one another and are grounded in a whole. It determines conceptually what is achieved through self-perception conceptually, just as it determines all other percepts. It places this as the subject or “I” over against objects. This “something” is thinking, and the conceptual determinates are concepts and ideas

How I Rewired My Brain to Become Fluent in Math - Issue 17: Big Bangs - Nautilus
Susan Beltair

Steiner begins the second part of the book by emphasizing the role of self-awareness in objective thinking. Here he modifies the usual description of inner & outer experience by pointing out that our feelings, for example, are given to us as naively as outer perceptions. Both of these, feelings & perceptions, tell about objects we are interested in: the one about ourselves, the other about the world. Both require the help of thinking to penetrate the reasons that they arise, to comprehend their inner message. The same is true of our will. Feelings tell how the world affects us, our will tells how we would affect the world. Neither reaches true objectivity, for both mix the world’s existence & our inner life in an unclear way. Steiner emphasizes that we experience our feelings & will – & our perceptions as well – as being more essentially part of us than our thinking. He celebrates this gift of direct experience, but points out that this experience is still dualistic in the sense that it only encompasses one side of the world.

With regard to freedom of the will, Steiner observes that a key question is how the will to action arises in the first place. Steiner describes to begin with two sources for human action: on the one hand, the driving forces springing from our instincts, feelings, & thoughts determined by our moral character – & on the other hand, various kinds of external motives we may adopt, including the dictates of abstract or societal codes. In this way, both our nature & our culture bring forces to bear on our will & soul life. Overcoming these two elements, we can achieve genuinely individualized intuitions that speak to the particular situation at hand. By overcoming a slavish or automatic response to the dictates of both our ‘lower’ drives & conventional standards, & by orchestrating a meeting place of objective & subjective elements of experience, we find the freedom to choose how to think & act.

Freedom Heart by Brenda Ferrimani
Brenda Ferronini

Freedom does not consist in acting out everything subjective within us, but in acting out of love, thoughtfully & creatively. In this way we can love our own actions, which are unique & individual to us, rather than stemming from obedience to external codes or compulsive physical drives which constitute limitations on freedom.

Freedom arises most clearly at the moment when a human being becomes active in pure, individualized thinking for the good of the all; this is a spiritual activity. Achieving freedom is accomplished by learning to let an ever larger portion of our actions be determined by thinking aligned with good will, rather than by habit, addiction, reflex, or involuntary or unconscious motives.

Steiner differentiates pure thinking into “moral intuition (formulation of individual purposes), moral imagination (creative strategies for realizing these larger purposes in the concrete situation), & moral technique (the practical capacity to accomplish what was intended). We only achieve free deeds when we find an ethically impelled response to the immediacy of a given situation. Such a response will always be radically individual; it cannot be prescribed, or forced.

The highest morality exists when a person acts in the world through deeds of love realized by means of individually developed & ‘contextually-sensitive moral imaginations’.

Steiner’s maxim of social life: “Live through deeds of love, and let others live with understanding for each person’s unique intentions…A moral misunderstanding, a clash, is out of the question between people who are morally free. Only one who is morally unfree, who obeys bodily instincts or conventional demands of duty, turns away from a fellow human being if the latter does not obey the same instincts and demands as himself.”

Freedom Of Heart Painting by Julio Sanchez - Julsan
Julio Sanchez

For Steiner, true morality, the highest good, is the universal, mediated by the individual & the situation. It depends upon our achieving freedom from both our inner drives & outer pressures. To achieve such free deeds, we must cultivate our moral imagination, our ability to imaginatively create ethically sound & practical solutions to new situations, in fact, to forge our own ethical principles & to transform these flexibly as needed – not in the service of our own egotistical purposes, but in the face of new demands & unique situations. This is only possible through moral intuitions, immediate experiences of spiritual realities that underlie moral discernments.

Moral imagination & intuition allow us to realize our subjective impulses in objective reality, creating bridges between the spiritual influence of our subjectivity & the natural influence of the objective world in deeds: “that which is natural is spiritual, that which is spiritual is natural…The action is therefore neither stereotyped, carried out according to set rules, nor is it performed automatically in response to an external impetus; the action is determined solely through its ideal content.” If an act proceeds out of genuine thinking, or practical reason, then it is free.

Set Free Painting by Deborah Nell
Deborah Nell

Steiner concludes by pointing out that to achieve this level of freedom, we must lift ourselves out of the prejudices we receive from our family, nation, ethnic group or religion, & all that we inherit from the past that limits our creative & imaginative capacity to meet the world directly. Only when we realize our potential to be a unique individual are we free. Only when we actively strive towards freedom do we have some chance of attaining it.

Serving

Personal Recollections of Joan Of Arc, by Mark Twain

Greetings Friends on this High Holy Day of Yom Kippur, & also the eve of the ‘Feast of St. Michael & All the Heavenly Hosts’. This year our Michaelmas theme was ‘Joan d’Arc – PURIFYING FIRE: The Power behind the Will’, & my research led me to many amazing resources, including Mark Twain’s, as well as Anthroposopher Joan M. Edmunds Books. But my main source came from Rudolf Steiner who gives us many insights into this powerful individuality.

The Destinies of Individuals and of Nations: Steiner, Rudolf: 9780880102056: Amazon.com: Books

I was particularly take by what Steiner says in ‘The Destinies of Individuals and of Nations, Lecture 5, The Nature of the Christ Impulse and the Michaelic Sprit Serving It. Berlin, 1915’; a lecture series he gave right at the start of the 1st world war. I felt called to make that my personal focus. I didn’t get a chance to share it at our Festival, so here it is for your contemplation. I hope it moves you to take action as it did me.

What is the mission of The Maid of Orleans?

From the time of her enchanted childhood around the village fairy tree, & then starting at the age of 12, & for 7 years till she was martyred at 19, Jehanne (feminine form of Joannes or John) d’Arc was inspired into by progressive Beings of the Divine Spiritual World. These powers battled the inflammatory Luciferic forces of deception prevailing in humanity at that special time right before the beginning of the Consciousness Soul Age.  Joan of Arc, with the aid of Michael, (& his helpers St. Catherine & St. Margaret) was able to vanquish the seductive Luciferic forces which were vying to prevent this shift in human consciousness.

Steiner describes the miracle of her birth, how she went thru a sort of pre-earthy initiation during the potent time of the 13 Holy nights, incarnating on Epiphany, the day the Christ came into a human being at the baptism. And we can also point to her equally auspicious death. Yes it was gruesome, not unlike like the sacrifice of the Christ. In her case, it occurred because all the jealous, selfish, Luciferic forces of her enemies joined together to bring about her sacrifice by fire; not unlike the burning of Ephesus & of the 1st Goetheanum.

Trial of Joan of Arc - Wikipedia
Paul Delaroche

At her witch trial she predicted her own death, & said that within 7 years after of her sacrifice: “the English would meet with a much greater reversal of fortune than any they had known before”.

Spiritual Science tells us that the soul of Joan of Arc continued working across the Threshold to shape these events after her death. What the spiritual powers have to bring about will occur whatever the external conditions may be. Many great individualities are working with us even now from across the threshold. The Maid’s adversaries were able to bring about her death, but they were NOT able to prevent her mission.

Joan of Arc Bio, Age, Height, Death

The power behind the will of the Maid of Orleans, the forces of Michael, are working still against the immoral Luciferic forces that rage in the world.

Rudolf Steiner | Rudolf steiner, Steiner, Rudolf

Dear friends, as you are all so keenly aware, we are also having to deal with hostile forces in our time; but now-a-days these are predominantly Ahrimanic forces; not inflaming, but hardening, materialistic forces, that have come up with the industrial age. These forces are in evidence everywhere, especially if we turn our attention not only to the mechanical element, but thru-out cyber space; a distractive shrouding of the reappearance of the Christ in the etheric.

And so Spiritual science tells us that if we remain unconscious of these forces working into our sense impressions, we are offering an abode to the dragon that seeks to stupefy us. These sclerotic forces influence our earth life, creating the fearful events happening NOW all over the globe.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria (1863 – 1914). On 17 August 1913, the Emperor promoted Franz Ferdinand to inspector … | Ferdinand, History, Historical pictures

In the above mentioned 1917 lecture, Steiner talks about how a sort of denial of the build up to the 1st World War had been present for a long time in the astral world, but was held back by something that was also astral: by the fear, doubt & hatred held in the feeling life of human beings. These negative astral forces were able to hold the war back, to prevent it, for a while. Steiner says: “…at 1st a fearful denial was able to stop war from breaking out. But then with the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, there emerged a ‘reversal event’ – this recalls the words from Joan of Arc: “the English would meet with a much greater reversal than any they had known before”. In that case the selfish Luciferic forces came back to destroy the English reign after the sacrifice of Joan of Arc; & in this case of the world war, all the elements of fear from the ahrimanic powers began to gather around the sacrificed soul of the Archduke, creating a focal point, a tear at the threshold.

The Changing Face Of Satan, From 1500 To Today

It’s hard to really phantom this, but we know that anything that has a specific character on the physical plane will have the opposite character in the spiritual world. Everything is reversed in the spiritual world. An element that had a blocking effect, keeping the 1st world war at bay, was now acting in the opposite way, as a spur, an incitement, to war. So we see that a flip of the elements of fear, of the deceiving Ahrimanic elements, became a catalyst for war, which now a 100 years later, has led to the events of our present age, where there is constant war, in all realms of society.

Tyrone Dwelzel

But fear not dear friends, Steiner tells us that we must not try to deny or rebel against these materialistic Ahrimanic elements. We must let them strengthen us; we must develop the courage of Michael to see it as something that is necessary in our time, something that has to be present, so that we can learn to reverse the fear thru our heart-thinkingtransforming these forces of resistance thru love.

Pas Beirutt

The question is: How do we make it possible for divine spiritual forces, the ‘ever present help of the spiritual world’, to enter into our actions so that we can consciously reverse fear, doubt & hatred?

How do we offer a positive resistance to this deceptive Ahrimanic element in our age, the way resistance was offered to the Luciferic element at the time of Joan of Arc?

Social Threefolding and Commonweal | Feminist movement, Freedom, Road trip

– By taking the path towards a spiritualization of human culture – by cultivating our ability to form ideas & concepts into a thinking will for good. This is the prerequisite foundation needed to manifest the 3-fold social organism. Which we can only do if we stop listening to the prejudices & propaganda currently pounding us deeper into the materialism of our age – a voice that speaks loudly at times, or can be the faintest of whispers from the dragon within.

We generate the great strength we need to offer resistance to these hardening forces by approaching the spirit not only thru the inner powers of revelation & faith, like in the case of Joan of Arc, but by trying to concentrate our powers of understanding on what spiritual science has to give – a rational wisdom, filling us with light.

Irene Olid Gonzalez.

And when we take ahold of ourselves with this attitude, we can consciously work with what Michael, the Spirit of our Age, has to give us now in our time – Meeting every trial & test with a conscious heart-thinking, motivated by the wisdom of love.

~May we strive for at-one-ment on this solemn fast day, in preparation for our journey into the Michaelmas season, where we must kindle our own light of thinking.

Jupiter/Saturn and Pluto conjunction 2020

28 September 2020 – “Speaking with the Stars”: Retro. Saturn halting its westward motion, coming to an apparent stop 10 pm CDT tonight. The planet of universal memory will then begin moving eastward again — although not as quickly as Jupiter. The King questioner switched directions September 12 & is tracking east much faster than Saturn. Jupiter will ultimately catch up with the ringed planet December 21 for an extraordinary close conjunction that will bring Saturn as close as Jupiter’s own moons.

Our own Moon has pulled away from Sagittarius, where the giant planets now sit, so consider spending some time in this constellation tonight. The tiny dwarf planet Pluto, lies roughly between Saturn & Jupiter, Southwest of Saturn & Southeast of Jupiter.

Greetings Friends
During this time after the Autumnal Equinox & the beginning of the Michaelmas Season, a shift occurs within us, echoing outside of us in nature, & reflected in various cultural expressions & traditions.

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is yom-kippur-day-of.gif

Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which begins tonight at sunset, falls 10 days after Rosh Hashanah, & is the culmination of the entire High Holy Day drama. It is the holiest day of the Jewish year or, as the Bible describes it, the “Sabbath of Sabbaths”. During the 24 hours of Yom Kippur, the biblical commandment to fast from food & water, while engaging in intense soul-searching, & praying for forgiveness is practiced. Yom Kippur is a day of inner purification & of reconciliation with the creator & with our fellow human beings. It is a reminder of the frailty of human existence & our duty to act charitably toward the less fortunate. This ancient tradition is just as important now as it was for our ancestors, maybe even more so.

Yom Kippur Sermon 2018: A Eulogy for Isaiah • Rabbi Jay Asher LeVine
Isaiah by Marc Chagall

The inspiring, yet sobering, words of Isaiah 58 are read publicly in the synagogue on Yom Kippur “This fasting I have chosen,” says the prophet Isaiah, “Is it not done to loose the chains of injustice & untie the cords of bondage? To set the oppressed free & break every yoke? Are we not meant to share our food with the hungry & to provide the poor wanderer with shelter—when you see the naked, you must clothe him, & not turn away from your fellow man?”

Forgiveness Marc Chagall

It is the moment in time to dedicate mind, body, & soul to reconciliation – with God, our fellow human beings, & ourselves; a time to turn to those whom we have wronged, acknowledging the pain we might have caused. At the same time, being willing to forgive & to let go of certain offenses & the feelings of resentment they provoked in us. This journey for both seekers & givers of pardon mirrors the journey a soul takes after death.

There are number of customs & traditions associated with the Holy Day of Yom Kippur. For example: the mikvah, or ritual bath.  The scripture says “You shall immerse yourselves in water & be purified.” This practice, from which Christian baptism originated, symbolizes purification & regeneration, as well as new birth, through repentance. Another custom is to greet each other by saying ‘May your name be inscribed in the Book of Life’ Gmar Chatimah Tova.

The High Holy Days are divided into two parts: The first is the inscribing which begins on Rosh Hashanah & finishes on Yom Kippur when the final “sealing” of fate takes place for the year. Parents customarily bless their children with the priestly benediction: “May it be the will of our Father in Heaven to put into your heart love & reverence. May your eyes be directed, may your mouth speak wisdom, & your heart strive for holiness. May your hands be occupied with good deeds & your feet hasten to do the will of the divine. May He grant you sustenance without stress & with profit, out of His hand that is open wide. May you be inscribed & sealed unto a good, long life. And so shall it be. Amen.”

It is also customary to give extra charity before the holiday, & to light memorial candles for departed family members.

As with all Jewish festivals, the woman formally ushers in the holiday by lighting the candles at sundown. Evening services commence with the recitation of the Kol Nidrei prayer, a plea for absolution from any & all unfulfilled vows a person may have made in the course of the year.

According to Jewish tradition, God inscribes each person’s fate for the coming year into the ‘Book of Life’ on Rosh Hashanah, & waits until Yom Kippur to “seal” the verdict. “May you be sealed for a good year in the Book Of Life” – is the traditional greeting on Yom Kippur.

Contrary to popular belief, Yom Kippur is a day of hope & optimism in addition to a solemn day of soul-searching. The Day of Atonement provides a unique awareness of one’s own character & track record, as well as the opportunity to upgrade relationships with relatives, friends, associates & the community at-large. Yom Kippur’s focus on forgiveness, highlights humility, fallibility, compassion, soul-searching faith, thoughtfulness, being considerate, & accepting responsibility

Hildegard

Cabalistic tradition states that the first human being, Adam, was created on Rosh Hashanah.  And so it is that Human-beings are given an opportunity to recreate themselves spiritually, each year, on Yom Kippur.  This holiday is celebrated when the constellation of the scales give way to the virgin as herald in the heavens. Libra & Virgo symbolize key themes of Yom Kippur: Justice, balance, truth, symmetry, wholeness.

Libra is ruled by the planet Venus which reflects the beauty of love, & Virgo is ruled by Mercury the god of communications.

During this season it is customary to walk to a body of fresh water & recite a special prayer, symbolically casting bread crumbs into the waters, a symbol of our sins: those actions that have missed the mark.

Ho' oponopono & Let it Be

And now, at the risk of mixing metaphors, I’d like us to put into practice the Hawaiian ritual of forgiveness, called Ho‘oponopono – It stems from an understanding that everything in the world is connected, in spite of our feelings of ‘separateness’.

What we do to ourselves & others has repercussions. Because of this unity everything that occurs in our own little world creates a resonance in others & in society as a whole. To heal the planet we first have to heal ourselves; to do this, we will  rely on four magic sentences: I am sorry.  Please forgive me.  I love you. Thank you. x4

In earnest wakefulness & practiced Peace –

The Michaelmas Soul Calendar verse by Rudolf Steiner, Translated by Roy Sadler
v26,
Natura, in the being of my will
I bear thy soul of motherhood,
and in my will-enkindled firepower
my spirit impulses are tempered, steeled,
that feeling of the selfhood formed from them
bear I in me.

This is the last verse of the first half of the Soul Calendar,
which from Easter united with the spirit through the senses
and in the Calendar’s 2nd Movement, v14-26,
has incarnated the spirit’s vision with imaginative insight
for the coming months to have an inspired feeling for the spirit’s birth at Christmas.

v27
To fathom
my depths of being
arouses longing, ardently divining,
that self-observing I discover, in a seed
of who I am, the summer sunlight’s gift
that in a warm autumnal mood in me
is germinating as a spring force in my soul.

MY POD (Poem Of The Day)

~Making Peace I know
even night & day struggle,
but this is how magnificent sunsets & the stunning dawn are born…
We can call it a state of grace –
for unless the earth enveloped the seed
& the seed moved against the darkness, there would be no grain…
We take in the air & the air escapes us…
Call it the breath of life; not loss or disaster
it is the empty heart waiting to be filled…

September 2020: Four Planets & More! - Sky & Telescope - Sky & Telescope

25 September 2020 – “Speaking with the Stars”: Conjunction of Moon, Jupiter & Saturn!!!

Saturn glows in the south after dusk – a steady yellowish light in the constellation of Capricornus, close to the left of brighter Jupiter – highest in the south at evening twilight. The beneficent King reversed its retrograde (westward movement relative to the stars) on September 12th after halting above the handle of the Teapot of Sagittarius. This evening at dusk you’ll find Jupiter, the expansive thinker – the questioner, next to Saturn holding the memory of the Universe, there to the upper left of the waxing gibbous Moon. They will continue this dance of looking into the past to see World events & how they will move into the future thru our conscious questioning, up until their big conjunction on Winter Solstice.

When we look up to the wonder of the starry world, when we contemplate the whole process of the universe with its glories and marvels, then we are led at last to the feeling that all the glory that lies open to our view in the whole universe that surrounds us only has meaning when it is reflected in an admiring human soul. -Goethe

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

Rudolf Steiner’s lectures on this day

Cleopas - Wikipedia

Birthday of Cleophas, disciple on the road to Emmaus Luke 24:13-32. This occurs three days after the crucifixion, on the day of Jesus’ resurrection. The two have heard the tomb of Jesus was found empty earlier that day. They are discussing the events of the past few days when a stranger asks them what they are discussing. “Their eyes were kept from recognizing him.” He soon rebukes them for their unbelief & gives them a Bible study on prophecies about the Messiah. They ask the stranger to join them for the evening meal. When he breaks the bread “their eyes were opened” &  they recognize him as the resurrected Christ, Who immediately vanishes.

Cleopas & his friend hasten back to Jerusalem to carry the news to the other disciples, & learn that The Christ has also appeared to them. The same event is recorded in Mark 16:12-16:13.

An Orthodox Evaluation of Certain Teachings in the Writings of John Scotus Eriugena in Light of the Theology of St Gregory Palamas | MYSTAGOGY RESOURCE CENTER

810 – Birthday of John Scotus Eriugena, Christian mystic philosopher, translator, theologian & poet. John “of Ireland” (Eriugena means “Irish-born,” where the Scotti were an ancient & extensive tribe) is a major figure in the development of mystical spirituality in western European Christianity. He served as the primary translator-conduit for ideas from the great Greek Christian minds of the Middle-East & Near-East to come into Europe. ‘God is both immanently within and transcendentally beyond all beings’ Expanding richly on the idea of the apokatastasis or “universal salvation” of all souls in God’s all-saving Divine Love. Eriugena also wrote of the conscious Return (reditus) & merging of all beings into God. No souls (including the souls of animals & the demon-souls) would be left out of this grand return, no one would be damned to suffer forever in hell or wither away into oblivion. Eriugena’s enlightened view reveals an astonishingly positive scenario of a triumphantly compassionate, ever-loving God who is the Heart, Source & Substance of everyone.

“…we come across wonderful characters such as Scotus Erigena, a monk from Scotland called the Scottish St. John, who later lived at the court of Charles the Bald. He did not get on well with the Church, and it is told that the brothers of his order tortured him to death with pins. Of course, this is not to be taken literally, but it is true that he was tortured to death. A splendid book was written by him, On the Divisions in Nature which reveals a great profundity of thought… “. ~Rudolf Steiner, Occult Signs and Symbols, lecture 3, GA 101

Once I understood each word the caterpillar said,
Once I smiled in secret at the gossip of the starlings,

Once I heard and answered all the questions
