When Rudolf Steiner founded the ‘New Mysteries’ thru Anthroposophia at the Christmas Conference of 1923-24, he laid the foundation on earth for a new “cultus”, which had been part of the Michael School in the Super-sensible world during the 18^th & 19^th Centuries. He referred to this practical aspect of the New Mysteries as: the “Cognitive Ritual”, the “Ritual of Knowledge”, the “Spiritual Communion of Humanity”, the “Cosmic Communion”, the “World Ritual”, the “Reverse Ritual”, or “the “Cosmic Ritual”. How is it different from the Sacramental Communion? And why is it important for us today?

Live Power Community Farm is a seasoned, long-time biodynamic farm whose farming family have passed through many seasons of soul, soil and spirit. Although the CSA aspect of the farm is on hold right now, Gloria has been continuing to host educational activities for children and adults.

Richard Ramsbotham was born in Northumberland in 1962. After attending Cambridge University and Emerson College he taught literature at Warsaw University (1989-1993) and then trained at the Artemis School of Speech and Drama. Since then he has worked as a teacher, lecturer, writer and theatre director. He is the author of ‘Who Wrote Bacon? Shakespeare, Bacon and James 1’; ‘An Exact Mystery – the Poetic Life of Vernon Watkins’; several plays and many articles on cultural, historical and current themes (e.g. 9/11 and Covid-19). He has also translated and directed Rudolf Steiner’s 4 Mystery Dramas. He is the co-founder of Fourfold Living Arts, an initiative bringing together the performing arts with the exploration of important cultural and current themes.

Feast of the Cross – According legend the True Cross was discovered in 326 by Saint Helena, the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, during a pilgrimage she made to Jerusalem. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre was then built at the site of the discovery, by order of Helena & Constantine. The church was dedicated nine years later, on this same date, with a portion of the cross placed inside it.

Other legends explain that in 614, that portion of the cross was carried away from the church by the Persians, & remained missing until it was recaptured by the Byzantine Emperor Heraclius in 628. Initially taken to Constantinople, the cross was returned to the church in 629.

Dear friends – I felt it important to bring forth the ideas from Anthroposophy around these mysterious “Pre-Earthly Deeds” from yesterday’s post MY TURN – to remind us that “The Christ Will encircling us holds sway, in world-rhythms bestowing grace upon souls” – That the spiritual world is forever gifting us.

How can we better receive the investment? Can we triple it, & then give back unselfishly of ourselves too?

During this illness I have felt the presence of the so-called dead very strongly. So many have been enslaved by the adversarial forces using them to further sickness & destruction in the world – Many are just lost, having lived a barren materialistic existence & are now stuck as hungry ghosts who can never be satisfied. Many are yearning to work with us to spiritualize the Earth. They want to help us create the conditions for the 6^th Cultural Epoch that they need to be born into.

CG (yep he got it too) & I were talking about how going thru this has felt like a kind of Kamaloca experience. This was a real lightbulb moment – to think how for 1/3 of our lives on earth we will suffer the heat & cold of our undigested passions in our spiritual journey of expanding out to the Moon Sphere before we can pass thru the other planetary dimensions in our life between death & rebirth.

Many a-long night I wished for the sweet arms of death to enfold me, so that I could be born into the spiritual world, free of my body, but then this Kamaloca thought quickened me to fight ever more to stay alive – And ask: How can I let go of my attachments now, to help lessen the load when my time does come to cross the threshold of death?

In Our Lady’s time, Aramaic was the spoken language. In Hebrew, the name Mary is Miryam, Meaning: “Bitter Sea,” “Myrrh of the Sea”, “The Enlightened One,” “The Light Giver,” & especially “Star of the Sea”= Stella Maris.

Dear Friends – As you know, I have tried over these years to bring Spiritual Scientific analysis into what is behind the current world situation. Anthroposophia is not only working within us for inner development but also thru our soul forces into the world we all share.

Recently I have been entertaining the notation of inviting the being representing the Corona Crisis into me, so that I could have a personal experience from which to better understand what forces are working amongst us. Many times I have felt the being try to enter me. It’s like a pushing around the aura of my head. But I have always fought it off with my potions & precautions. I even got a stash of Ivermectin that I take prophylactically when traveling by plane etc…It has always worked, for my will is strong, & usually there is no room in my schedule for even the thought of the sick bed. While I have heard stories from my friends & family of how they got sick, sometimes multiple times, I was grateful that all this time I had not succumbed.

I have been thinking a lot about the story of how Steiner could feel the influenza virus on the train one day. He decided as an experiment to allow the being in, to see what it was like.

Well dear friends, over the Labor Day Weekend a group of us took CG to the Jazz Fest for his Birthday at the fabulous Millennium Park in downtown Chicago. It was glorious. It’s true that mixing with the music & the crowd, I could feel the Corona in the atmosphere, which is not unusual; it has attached itself to the ethers very strongly for a while now. Later that evening I felt the familiar push to enter my head, but instead of taking my oregano oil & other supplements I just went to bed, & told my angel that if it was meant to come into me, so be it.

Wham! Even in half sleep I knew I had entered Ahriman’s realm – the 1^st sensations were a physical piercing of my nervous system with those spikes we have often seen as the main feature in the depiction of the Corona. This intense electric shock of pain moves around – jumps down my limbs; & as the days went on it penetrated deeper, randomly attacking my inner organs, particularly my liver; kidneys & heart & now my throat & lungs. Even my teeth are on edge. There is no way to rest, or get comfortable, everything is cut thru, as the electrical impulses light up various pain centers.

It feels as if my inner organs are fighting against each other, striking out with spiky hurt. I likened it to the condition which Steiner speaks about as the organs being ‘egotistical’ fighting each other – a disordering of our cosmic origins thru the adversarial forces, which surly would have befallen us permanently, had the ‘pre-earthly deeds of Christ’, not occurred.

The imagination that has arisen for me is that this illness is seeking to awaken humanity to contemplate & renew the gifts given thru the pre-earthly deeds of Christ – as well as prepare for the next deeds of sacrifice which are seeking to come in thru the etheric & astral realms. If we do not use this opportunity, these graces may become crippled, or taken away.

These deeds “accomplished 3 times before the Mystery of Golgotha, for the salvation of humankind: once in the old Lemurian epoch, then in the Atlantean, & once again at the end of Atlantean times – And then a fourth time in the post-Atlantean epoch at the beginning of our own era”. My thinking tells me that there are 2 more to come in future times..?

In these events the Being who we know as the Nathan-Jesus, is present, permeated by the Christ-Being, living in the spiritual worlds, described by Steiner: “as a Being of the nature of the Archangels. Through permeation with the Christ, the Nathan Soul then assumes an etheric human form.”

In a nutshell, the 3 pre-earthly deeds bestow on humanity the power to stand upright & walk; to speak; & to think. We see this miracle in every normal child’s development before the age of 3.

Thru these 3 pre-earthly deeds “.. something new entered the Cosmos & rayed down upon Earth making it possible for the physical earthly human form, to receive the etheric super-earthly Christ-Being, to protect humanity from that destructive force of Lucifer & Ahriman seeking to impair the Formative Forces, which enable human beings to become an upright harmonious being, instead of an animal bound to the earth.

Disorder would inevitably have entered had not this form-giving force, which was able to stream into humankind, poured in with the forces of the physical Sun.”

Steiner goes on to tell us in the ground breaking lecture of 2 May 1913, London: “…the whole period before the Mystery of Golgotha was only a time of preparation in the evolution of the earth. The Mystery of Golgotha imparted to the earth its meaning and purpose.” This deed accomplished the rescuing of our physical body. But as we can surmise we still need to achieve a redemption for our etheric, astral & “I” forces.

So then Steiner goes on to say that at the end of the 19^th Century a 4^th deed, a new sacrifice occurred to rescue our etheric body: “The ‘seeds of earthly materialism’ which were increasingly carried into the spiritual world by the souls who went through the portal of death since the sixteenth century, and which caused more and more darkness, built a ‘black sphere of materialism.’ Christ took this black sphere into his being in the sense of the Manichean principle for the purpose of transforming it. For the angel being in which the Christ had manifested himself since the Mystery of Golgotha, the black sphere caused a ‘death by suffocation.’

This sacrifice by Christ in the nineteenth century is comparable to the sacrifice on the physical plane through the Mystery of Golgotha and can be called the second crucifixion of Christ on the etheric plane. This spiritual death by suffocation, which brought about the extinction of the consciousness of the angelic Being is a repetition of the Mystery of Golgotha in those worlds that lie immediately behind our world. It took place to make possible a revival of the Christ consciousness which was earlier hidden in human souls on earth. The revival becomes clairvoyant vision of humanity starting in the twentieth century.”

I have said from the beginning that the image of the Corona is meant to open us up to this vision in the etheric realm, which is being suppressed. And we can certainly experience in this sickness a kind of suffocation.

Is this illness a way of renewing & making these sacrifices our own? It can be if we make this our conscious intention.

Besides trying to overcome the divisiveness of the 5^th Post-Atlantean epoch, with its opportunity to more fully enter our free will unselfishly, we are being called now to prepare for the 6^th cultural epoch when the Christ-Impulse brings in the 4^th human capacity, the power of Chirsted memory – Christ will be able to speak through every soul force, if we make our concepts & ideas alive within us, then Christ will be united with our memories. This requires a sacrifice in the astral realm for us all – Opening humanity to consciously work with our guardian angels to create a social sphere where we revere all life.

“Should there be upon the Earth a state of materialism in which the Christ is denied, the power of Memory would fall into disorder. More and more people would appear whose memory is chaotic; who become duller and duller in their dark Ego-consciousness.

But through Christ consciousness, history will then be a living memory, because a true understanding of spiritual and historical events can enter the memory; human memory will understand the central point of world-evolution. A perceptive faculty will then arise, directed to one life that will extend over former incarnations.”

The Christ-Event which is now approaching us — not in the physical but in the etheric, and connected with the first kindling of the Christ-permeated Memory — will be such that Christ will approach humanity as an Angel-like Being. For this event we must prepare ourselves.”

I wanted to start writing this today on 9/11 – since it is the perfect example of a ‘spiritual & historical event’ that has entered the collective memory in an extremely biased, skewed way. It has been 21 years; in biography work we say, we have the opportunity to step into our higher Self at this age. Are we willing to approach this memory with the “I” of Christ consciousness?

Can we follow the thru line that extends far into the past, pointing up earlier events like WW1 & Pearl Harbor, that set up the conditions for 9/11. Then we must pull it into the present to apply it to our current situation…? And what about the future?

It’s interesting how anything to do with screens, the false projection in Ahriman’s use of the ethers, feels like poison to me right now – The digitalization rubs my soul raw in my tossing & turning as I try to rest. So I’m sorry if I cannot fully relate my Corona experience in this article.

But I feel deeply that the formative forces of humanity, our uprightness, our ‘Truth Wrought Word’ & pure Heart-Thinking, must be fortified; completely renewed, if we are to transform the Corona into a Crown of glory for humankind.

Even thru the brain-fog, doing various meditations has been a life saver. Filling my senses with Nature’s beauty is another potent balm. Sometimes all I can do is sit in my garden & watch the bees on the golden rod, or the light in the clouds. So many monarchs this year has me reveling in these two verses, by Steiner, which give expression to a great secret of nature:

Behold the plant:
It is the butterfly
Fettered by the earth.

Behold the butterfly:
It is the plant
Freed by the cosmos.

The butterfly is reminding us that we too are beings of light, not meant to be blindly bound to lower materialistic earth forces.

We found a praying mantis on the Joe Pye Weed the other day. And yesterday at sunset a cluster of gigantic dragonflies swarmed the garden playing catch with the bugs, flashing their rainbow colors, ‘taking away our sorrow’, as Steiner mentions in a poem about Summer.

Well, the seasons are certainly shifting now. And I still feel like I have a long way to go before my well-being is restored, & so the Corona experiment continues…

Hi 🙂 it’s me Ultra-Violet Archer (Lucien is encouraging me to start embracing my full name, so there it is!) I want to share this poem by the great Sufi poet Hafiz, who inspires Velsum with his (extremely passionate displays of) enthusiasm for life’s divinity. Its called ‘And Then You Are’
And then You are like this:
A small bird decorated
With orange patches of light
Waving your wings near my window,

The classical Greeks describe the Muse, as ‘She Who Knows All That Is, Ever Was or Will Be’. Sounds alot like the inscription for the New Isis. Mousa is the ancient Greek word for the Muse, the archetypal goddess of the mind, representing the forces of intuition, inspiration, & creative imagination, that leads to wisdom & self-realization. She is also the power of language in all of its many forms — the power of communication at its most exalted & divine manifestation thru words, song, music, dance & art.

“Happy is he whom the Muses love: sweet flows speech from his mouth.” ~Hesiod

In the seventh century B.C.E. Hesiod sang of Nine Muses, the Mousai: Kalliopeia, muse of epic poetry & the oldest of the nine Muses; Euterpe, muse of music & lyric poetry; Melpomene, muse of singing; Erato, muse of mystical & erotic love; Terpsikhore, muse of whirling & ecstatic dance; Urania, muse of astronomy & prophecy; Kleio, muse of history & heroic poetry; Thaleia, muse of comedy & idyllic poetry; & Polyhymnia, muse of sacred hymns and meditation.

The Nine Muses are the daughters of Mnemosyne, the goddess of Memory, & Zeus, the god of the lightning-like flash of inspiration. Sudden & powerful moments of intuition combined with the power of memory give piercing insights into the mysteries of the universe. Mnemosyne, the power of remembrance, is one of the three elder Muses, along with Melete, the power of practice, study, & meditation, & Aoide, the power of song, chant, & mantra. These are the ancient Divine Muse, the threefold goddess, the symbolic teacher & guide of the Pythian Priestess at the Delphic Oracle. This prophetic priestess, a channel for the Muse, was the most powerful religious & political authority in the Hellenic world for more than two thousand years.

The Pythia’s greatest law sent from the Divine Muse was: ‘Know Thyself’. Know thyself through meditation, mantra, & memory — the tools of the three elder Muses who are the daughters of the goddess Gaia, the Earth, & the god Uranus, the Heavens. This Divine Muse is the connecting principle between heaven & earth. Through meditation, mantra, & memory, we can connect the power of heaven’s creativity with the grounded, sustaining energy of the earth within our own being.

The Divine Muse taught the use of intuition & prophecy as a way to inner development. They fused prophesy & poetry with inspiration — the creative energy welling up from deep within the mind. The word inspiration means breathing into, inhalation, the breath of life, to be filled with the breath of life, to be inspired, to show genius. The Divine Muse is inspiration — the sacred breath, the life force in the air that is the power that makes consciousness possible. The Muse breathed into Hesiod, “a divine voice to celebrate the things that were and shall be.”

The Muse taught that vibration & music are the gateways to knowledge of the universe, of reality, & of ourselves. The Pythagoreans structured their colleges as temples dedicated to the powers of the Muse. Both Aristotle & Plato created shrines to the Muse in their colleges of philosophy.

The word museum originally meant the shrine or temple of the Muse, designating a place of transformation of consciousness, a place of research, scholarship, & learning, a place where sculpture, painting, art, & sacred texts were kept.

“Musikos,” the Greek word for music, meant, “relating to the Muses.” Plato used musikos to refer to the quality of being, “well educated and versed in things of the mind.” Plato taught that the concept of music encompassed all that relates to the mind. He believed in revealed knowledge as a path to knowing ultimate truth, describing the channel of flowing creativity between the human & divine as the Muse herself.

Within the brain there are unused areas of potential energy & psychic awareness. The power to awaken these dormant regions is within us. We can open the gate to wisdom & consciousness through study, meditation, chanting, & dancing — the rituals of the Muse who rests hidden in our memory, waiting to lead us to the highest states of knowledge, blessedness, & being. Once the Muse reveals the truths within us, we understand who we are & what we are supposed to do.

The Muse is not a mythological figment of the ancient past, she is the inner source of wisdom & the force of creativity within our own minds. Rise in your thinking to meet the Muse within & she will come.

720 – Death/Feast Day of Aubert of Avranches According to legend, in 708 he had a vision in which the Archangel Michael instructed him to build an oratory on the rocky tidal island at the mouth of the Couesnon. Aubert did not pay attention to this vision at first, until in exasperation Michael appeared to him again, this time driving his finger into Aubert’s skull & ordering him to complete the task again. Michael is said to have appeared to him a total of three times. After this the oratory was built.

The relic of Aubert’s skull, complete with hole where the archangel’s finger pierced it, can still be seen at the Saint-Gervais Basilica in Avranches.

1305 – Death/Feast Day of Nicholas of Tolentino, known as the Patron of Holy Souls, was an Italian saint &mystic. There are many tales & legends which relate to Nicholas. One says the devil once beat him with a stick, which was then displayed for years in his church. In another, Nicholas, a vegetarian, was served a roasted fowl, for which he made the sign of the cross, & it flew out a window. Nine passengers on a ship going down at sea once asked Nicholas’ aid, & he appeared in the sky, wearing the black Augustinian habit, radiating golden light, holding a lily in his left hand, & with his right hand, he quelled the storm. An apparition of the saint, it is said, once saved the burning palace of the Doge of Venice by throwing a piece of blessed bread on the flames. He was also reported to have resurrected over one hundred dead children, including several who had drowned together.

1509 – An earthquake known as “The Lesser Judgment Day” hits Constantinople killing over 2,000

1721 – The Treaty of Nystad was signed ending the twenty-one year Great Northern War between Russia & Sweden. Rudolf Steiner speaks about the significance of this in GA 119 Macrocosm/Microcosm: Lecture 6: Experiences of Initiation in the Northern Mysteries

1898 – Deathday of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, the wife of Emperor Franz Joseph I, Queen of Hungary & Queen consort of Croatia and Bohemia. While travelling in Geneva in she was stabbed to death by an Italian anarchist named Luigi Lucheni who selected her because he had missed his chance to assassinate Prince Philippe, Duke of Orléans, & wanted to kill the next member of royalty that he saw. Elisabeth was the longest serving Empress-consort of Austria, at 44 years.
