Who is this John of St. John’s-Tide?

Studying Rudolf Steiner’s work on the Gospels, we gain profound insights that have the power to touch deep truths buried in the unconscious regions of our soul, regarding one of the most powerful personalities in the history of humankind. The birth of John takes place just after the height of Summer, on June 24^th, framed by the births of the two Jesus children. On the one hand, the birth of the Matthew Jesus child on January 6th, with the visitation of the ‘three wise men from the East’, taking place in Bethlehem. And months later, we hear of the other birth, of the Luke Jesus child, on December 24^th, with the heavenly revelation to the shepherds.

In another mystery, we see the spiritual body or angel of Gautama Buddha, which appears in the etheric-astral realm, first, in the meeting between Elizabeth, (just before John the Baptist is born), with Mary, the mother of Jesus (Luke 1.39-56.) & then also at the revelation to the shepherds (Luke 11.8-15.).

25 June 2020 – “Speaking with the Stars”: Get in on the conversation between Regulus & waxing Bella Luna, happening now. On star charts, Regulus – also known as Alpha Leonis – is located at the base of a star pattern that appears like a backwards question mark. This pattern, known as The Sickle, makes up the head & forequarters of Leo the Lion. Ancient Arab stargazers called Regulus by the name Qalb al-Asad, which means Heart of the Lion. It’s also sometimes called Cor Leonis, also meaning the Lion’s Heart. This same name was said to have been given to Richard the Lionhearted.

The constellation of Leo the Lion is part of the ancient story of Hercules & his 12 trials.

In the first of his trials Hercules is tasked with finding & killing the Nemean Lion – whose hide is impenetrable. Hercules doesn’t know this at first & shoots the Nemean Lion with arrows, which do nothing but make it really, really mad.

Being Hercules, he decides to make a mad dash toward the Nemean Lion rather than run away. The lion bounds into its cave, which has two entrances. Long story short, Hercules blocks off an entrance, rushes into the cave, & crowns the Nemean Lion over the head with his club.

In order to prove his victory, Hercules is supposed to bring the pelt back to King Eurystheus. After trying a few different tactics, he finally figures out that the only thing that can cut the skin of the Nemean Lion is with its own claws. Hercules brings the pelt back to Eurystheus, but ends up keeping it to use as his own personal armor.

In different versions of this story either Zeus or Hera decides at this point to create the Leo constellation.

It was Hera who first begged Gaia & Tartarus to create the god/monster Typhon, who happens to be the Nemean Lion’s father. Some legends say that Selene the moon goddess nursed the Nemean Lion; named because Hera, angry at Zeus, sent it to Nemea to live, next a shrine to Zeus. So anyone wanting to worship Zeus had to get past the lion first.

After Hercules conquered the Nemean Lion, Hera, took pity on the creature (or perhaps felt guilty) for it getting it hunted down , so she allowed it to live amongst the stars, next to Selene, the moon goddess, who adored him.

The Festival of St. John’s Tide starts on the fixed date of June 24, the birthday of John the Baptist

The name John is really a title, it represents the best of humanity, devoted to what is beyond the little self, alive to the revelation of the spirit brought by Christ. At the center of history, the summons of JB was to turn inward, & confront the lower self. St. John’s Day is a perfect time to re-assess & re-balance ourselves in this metanoia.

In the prologue of the Gospel of St. John the Evangelist right after we hear the ‘Word’ in the beginning, John, the 1st Adam is proclaimed. This Gospel emphasizes the divine spark in humanity, & connects us to its supreme form as the Logos Himself. The ‘disciple whom Jesus Loved’ received the forces of the beheaded John the Baptist, at the rising of Lazarus, earning him the title John as well.

Just as the Son of God who was buried in matter is born again in Jesus of Nazareth – So it is for every individual human being – there is a mighty experience, which may be called the birth of the higher self – The divine Ego is born of the striving human being. Awakening to Initiation is possible, & when it is taken up, life as we know it, opens to new dimensions.

When the human principle in Jesus of Nazareth had reached its highest development, & his body had become an expression of the spirit within him, he was ripe to receive the Christ in the Baptism by John. His body had unfolded its full power, like the radiant Sun at Midsummer.

This had been prophesied. The spirit was to be born out of the darkness, like the Sun which increases in power towards solstice, waxing strong until St. John’s day, & then begins move inward.

JB was able to behold the approach of Jesus of Nazareth, as the increase of the Sun, & say ‘I must decrease, as the Sun decreases after midsummer day.’ But The Christ as the spiritual Sun will increase, & ‘his Light will shine forth from out of the darkness.’

It was the Baptist’s mission to proclaim this: ‘He who was announced by the prophets of old, the Son of the spiritual realms, born of the spirit, behold, He hath appeared.’

John the Baptist is ever active since this turning point of time. He has lived many a life of renunciation, then, he came to prepare the way, thru baptism. And when we ‘make straight the path’, the inner spirit-light can shine forth ever more brightly, reflecting the Christ light.

This is how the universal Ego of humanity is reborn in freedom, & the condition fulfilled for the rebirth of the individual higher self in every human being.

This is the most vital event in the evolution of each individual human: the rebirth of the immortal being which can issue forth from the ordinary Ego. This is inseparable from the greatest of all events, the deed of Christ on Golgotha ‘As the meaning of the Earth‘.

Dear friends, Be awakened! There are forces trying to distract us from this truth – working to prevent us from becoming divinely human. May we be alert to the signs, & vigilant in our striving to practice Spiritual Science.

The Good Father

What does it mean to be a ‘good’ human being? Today being Father’s Day, let us ponder specifically what it can mean to be ‘a good man’? How can a good man be a good father? Every culture has its own history of storytelling: of how the world came to be, which informs what the world will become. This is how social norms should be formed, not thru the distorted lens of the screen, or history written by the conquers. To tell the children stories of our past, we pass on our history. This must include a range of archetypes that live within the ‘good man’:

King
Warrior
Magician
Lover

Qualities of the benevolent King: Inspire, Leadership, Strategic, Vision, Wisdom, Decisive, Lead, Judgement, Charismatic, Benevolence, Integrity, Influencer, Empowering, Risk Taker, Humility, Authority, Order and Structure, Blessing…I particularly love the idea of “blessing”. A King who gives a blessing bestows upon the person the right to go forward & make the best most valuable use of their own talents. This does not inhibit anyone’s ability to freely create & work for the greater good. Additionally, this blessing is a recognition of the skills to get the job done. “Authority” must come from within.

The Protector/Warrior: Courageous, Strength, Discipline, Determined, Reliable, Focused, Tactics, Work, Achievement, Endurance, Loyalty, Service… The best warriors are those who are courageous – rather than fearless; reliable & loyal rather than seeking to be leaders. The Warrior has total focus on implementing the required tactics to accomplish the strategy set by their leader King/Queen. Strength & endurance needs to be both physical, mental & emotional. Their characteristic quality of service enhances their sense of duty in fulfilling the tasks set by their King/Queen.

Magician: Wisdom, Intuition, Perception, Insight, Knowledge, Mysticism, Power, Respected, Gifts, Mentor…The Magician can be a teacher bestowing knowledge, & understanding to better ‘know thyself’. This is empowering to others & brings out the ‘magic’ in them. In cultural myth, the Magician seeks knowledge not for its own sake, but so that they may better understand, serve & mentor. Many Magicians have a personal gift: music, art, speech, charisma, that they can use to widen their own abilities to enhance the lives of others rather than for personal gain.

The Lover: Genuine, Compassion, Affectionate, Caring, Empathy, Altruistic, Open, Honest, Trustworthy, Beauty, Vitality, Celebration, Merciful…The archetypal Lover shares powerful qualities that enhance & improve the lives of others. It is the energy & power for living that the Lover brings to the world. Their appreciation for the beauty they see around them is an inspiration to others. The earth, the sky, the passing breeze. The Lover takes the moments of beauty seen in the smile of a child, or an old lady, & makes sure that moment is not missed. Celebration is the quality of being able to stop, breathe, look around & see what joy there is, in life. The Lover knows how to comfort & sustain.

Every child needs to learn this simple truth: She is the energy of the Sun! And it’s our job to organize life on earth so that every face shines with the same radiant de-light.

Can we as human beings learn that generosity is not only possible, but required? Look to the center of the solar system for our role model, a magnificent stellar bounteousness, pouring forth free energy, every day, without stop – without complaint, or the slightest hesitation. This is the way of the universe. This is the way of life. And this is the way in which each of us joins the cosmological lineage, accepting the Sun’s gift of energy, & transforming it into creative action that will enable society & all life on earth to flourish.

Throughout time, the Solstices have been honored as power points. Twice each year we move into a window in space-time when the Sun & Earth communicate in their extremes, & energy is exchanged in a dance of light & dark – a Tipping Point in consciousness, in the service of evolution…(Unlike the Equinoxes -which are all about perfect balance-the Solstices are a Tipping Point – toward or away from The Light)

The Summer & Winter Solstices are key reference points in our solar year, marking the changing light. What would it be like to pay attention to where the light comes in to your room everyday, so bright & early now, & then watching its changing position thru-out the year? Where do the rays glance at Michaelmas time? At the Winter Solstice…?

So dearly beloved – take a moment in the next few days to Stop…with the Sun…Close your eyes…& Look Up… consciously absorbing the photonic energy generously generated by the loving heart of our central star – Tiny rays of intelligence from the Mind of the Divine, translated thru the Sun – Spiritual Beings beaming all around us, especially now…

At our current point in the long cycles of Earth-time, the Summer Solstice aligns
with THE GALACTIC EDGE…of our known world…it is a time when we can tune into information ‘from a galaxy far, far away’… Could this Edge be the source of new ideas for changing the game on earth…? Here we can pause, with the Sun, to open the door to this expanded consciousness…

Will you walk thru this door with me…?

The Turning of the Ages in this sense is not just the movement from epoch to epoch, a 2,500 year cycle, it is a much longer round – a 26,000 year cycle, associated with the Precession of the Equinoxes.

Why am I bringing this up? Because the power of this shift from one 26,000 year cycle to another is most profoundly felt at the Solstices…

Greetings friends – Thanks to all who tuned into the webinar last night about the Summer Solstice & the ‘Ring of Fire’. Here is the Link. After taking our conversation into sleep, I awoke thinking about the ‘Primal Teachers’ who can still work with us from their fortress on the Moon, IF we rise in our thinking to meet them. As we discussed last night, these beings are especially lit up when they are in conjunction with the Sun at the time of New Moon. And with the advent of this Summer Solstice Solar eclipse we can connect with these ‘Moon Beings’ as we hold the light, in the dark.

This image of the ‘Ring of Fire’ is reminiscent of the image of the Corona Virus. Can we explore the connection by opening to the wisdom of these primal teachers to help us see into the message writ large, not only in our world situation, but in the starry script – To read the Word of Truth that seeks to be inscribed into our hearts & minds thru our free will…?

This solar eclipse is in Gemini as the ‘Sun Stands Still.’ Solstice officially comes in at 4:42 pm CDT 20 June 2020. The Eclipse starts at 10:33 pm CDT & goes till 4:44 am CDT 21 June 2020. The New Moon (also in Gemini) is coming between the Earth & the Sun – casting its shadow on our Day Star, blocking the light of the Sun from streaming to the Earth, which usually serves to mediate our ‘unbridled impulses’ .

Rudolf Steiner describes solar eclipses as “safety valves… they serve the purpose of carrying out into space, in a Luciferic way, the evil that spreads over the Earth, in order that evil may work havoc in a wider, less concentrated sphere.”

Astrosopher Willi Sucher tells us: “Steiner said it was always known in ancient times that the beings moved in the opposite direction of the shadow. In times of Sun eclipses, the shadow of the Moon falls upon the Earth, and there is a movement from the Earth along this shadow-funnel out into the cosmos. Certain demonic beings, shadow beings, darkness beings, move from the Earth out into the cosmos, and create further havoc in the cosmos… It is of no use to be frightened; the best thing that we can do is to put positive thoughts out to meet it. These shadow beings create havoc as long as they are not checked by human awareness.”

Looking at this clue from the cosmos, we can see this Ring of Fire as the opposite polarity to the coldness of separation, of isolation & social distancing; swinging us into the hot of rage of protests over the inhumane treatment of our black brothers & sisters. We must not get lost in the swing of the pendulum.

We have the continuing global experience of social isolation & separation created by the pandemic fear of death, setting the stage for medical fascism, “for your own good”. Then there arises this 2^nd global experience triggered by the rage over the wrongful murder of George Floyd, & the oppression of human dignity it represents.

We are set into a polarity of fear & rage. Fear with the pandemic. Rage with the George Floyd protests.

The pandemic has shown how quickly & easily people will submit globally, in a matter of weeks, to the authoritative voice of ‘science’ & politics for “their own good.” It is shocking to see how quickly the entire world has fallen into lock-step behind the dark elite papacy of pseudoscience to control the population. Even intelligent reasonable alternative views on how best to address the pandemic are considered “dangerous” & blocked on social media. This, my friends, has happened before in world history.

It is important to be fully awake to observe events objectively. The question to ask is: What is the underlying deeper purpose & consequences of this restriction in social connection. Is there an intelligence behind this?

The same is true with the eruption of rage, & the truly righteous call for justice after the killing of George Floyd. On the one hand, we can see a growing awareness of the dignity & value of each human being, which can be a sign of a growing recognition of our shared humanity & an outcry against the unjust treatment, of black people, & all who are not able to realize the free unfolding of their potential.

Yet, on the other hand, the rage can lead to increased hatred & division, a further separation that leads us away from a growing movement towards a world sister-brotherhood. Violence, hatred, & destruction fuel chaos, & chaos breeds fear. Fear & chaos pave the way for a justification of authoritarian control, again, for “your own protection”.

For most of humanity, the human being is seen as a blend of race, gender, career, family role, etc. This is how we experience ourselves in one particular place & time – the individualized garment of one incarnation. It is not actually the whole ‘Self’- our eternal spiritual being, beyond space & time, which returns again & again into different individualized self-garments.

So, most folks, without an understanding of the Spirit, of karma & reincarnation-of the true nature of the “I”, are caught up in identifying with the garment the external forms of self-hood. We can see this now in the rise in “identity politics,” a kind of tribalism, where individuals feel they must find their self thru a group they can identify with.

Without recognition of the spiritual, this seems to be all we have. We fall back on genetics, biology, ethnicity, race, ancestry, gender, & nationalism… any number of tribal -biological factors to define our “self”.

But dear friends, the true “I” is universal. We all share in it together, & we must find it in each other. Only by recognizing the “I” as Spirit, can we ever really “change our thinking,” as the Baptist reminds us at this time of year. When we practice ‘Metanoia’, to ‘transform our hearts & minds’, we can know the truth which sets us free. And this allows us to create new social forms for a “new normal.”

The hot & cold adversaries seek to undermine this core goal, in a myriad of ways. In every situation, we must stand in the balance, ever questioning: Is this attacking my spiritual freedom? Is this attacking my capacity for love?

How can we find our Spirit, our true Self, in the other, when there is this lock-down into isolation? Can we recognize that this is essentially an assault on our Spirit-I, preventing human communion?

Is the outrage & protest leading us to further division, hatred & tribalism, or is it leading us to a greater awareness & capacity for love for all human beings & our Mother Earth?

This is where our human choice, out of spiritual wakefulness, must take place.

A key can be found in the Foundation Stone Mediation, reminding us to always hold to the greater “mission” of our human becoming, that “Good May Become”. Only then can we become the hierarchy of freedom & love.

1970 – Deathday of Herbert Hahn, an anthroposopher who joined the society in 1912. In 1919 he was called by Rudolf Steiner to teach at the first Waldorf School in Stuttart, becoming a Class Teacher between 1921 & 1927 & finally History & German language teacher in the high school. Steiner entrusted him with the task of giving “free religion lessons” (for those children who did not belong to any of the denominations) & within this context he held the first “Sunday Service” in 1920. From 1931 until 1939 he taught at the Vrije School in The Hague.

During WW II he was deployed as interpreter. In 1943 he married his teaching colleague Maria Uhland. After the war, he returned to the Stuttgart Waldorf School, re-founded after the Nazi period & served as its unofficial director until his retirement in 1961.

Of his numerous works as an author especially his recollections of Rudolf Steiner, & his main work, Vom Genius Europas, his outline of an anthroposophical cultural psychology, was ground breaking. He was also one of the founding members of the Esoteric Youth Circle.

“Among the many presentations Rudolf Steiner gave concerning our being in modern culture & the world civilization, one very earnest appeal rises up as special in my memory. Rudolf Steiner warned us not to build up our initiatives & activities, which are directed toward great goals, on forms that exist in the outer world & are created out of routine. He said that these forms had grown old & brittle; they cannot be saved from perishing. We must see that we achieve a new basis & ground upon which we can move, borne by the spirit.

This comment, like all of the others he made in connection with the foundation of the community, was brought into a very large perspective. The largest perspective that opened up may well have been, as he said in view of the future of the community: “When this is founded, then you can think of it as determined for a wide-reaching working. It could, for instance, be the case that, at a given time, none of the members of the community are living on Earth; in the ordinary sense, the community would count as having died out. Yet, it will not be wiped out. With the 1^st community members who reincarnate, the community returns to Earth.”

The final comment given, answers in a totally satisfying manner, a question that was often asked by those joining the community later. The question was whether the Esoteric Youth Group were not to be considered dissolved by the Christmas Conference.

Aside from the fact that Rudolf Steiner again confirmed & gave the call to the community thru a new, essential meeting during the Christmas Conference, what was said above removes any doubt. The indication of the carrying of the community impulse thru the incarnations speaks for itself. More precise is the idea that the founding of the Esoteric Youth Group community in October 1922, may be considered to be one of the preparatory steps for the Christmas Conference of 1923.
