Part 6: Memphis – The Journey (part 1part 2part 3part 4, part 5)

As we drove from the Shoals to Memphis, Deb behind the wheel, the sky stretched out in front of us in a magnificent display of ever changing cloud forms & colors. This twilight show lingered, & we attended every shifting nuance – a lively conversation between human beings, & the elemental world.

After we made dinner in our Memphis digs, Deb was advocating a trip to the famous Beale Street to check out the local music scene. It was a cold evening & we were waffling. Then Angela read some passages from Orland Bishops book ‘The Seventh Shrine: Meditations on the African Spiritual Journey: From the Middle Passage to the Mountaintop’.

And we got fired up.

~hag, the ground at the Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve

In the blank pages in the back of the book Angela had written down a dream she had when she 1st read Orland’s book. It was dated November 10th 2018 & spoke about a tree that had been upended, she was warning people to be careful as the ground was unstable, creating a possible sink hole. When I heard this I got shivers & was reminded of my experience walking in the Clyde Shepherd nature preserve. (see part 3) When I described that strange place, Angela said, O yes, that spot is a dried up reservoir, & it was a good thing I got out of there quickly since the ground was indeed unstable. Then we came to realize that my experience & her dream happened on the same date a year apart!.

~hag

That clinched it, even though it was after 9 pm, the 3 sisters felt called, right then & there, to go out to the Lorraine Motel where MLK was murdered.

~hag

The site was deserted, eerie in the cold moon light. Intellectually we knew it had been converted into the Civil Rights Museum, but it was hard to fathom. Standing there in front of the facade of this perfectly preserved 50’s style motel, we felt like we had gone back in time. We prayerfully circumambulated, paying homage, & looking for a spot to gather a bit of earth to add to Angela’s ‘Soul Soil’.

~Steven Simon

There is a feeling that this place is a like a vortex, a portal leading into the inner layers of the earth, where the blood of MLK is mixing with the blood of Christ, feeding the seed that will allow the earth to become a Sun.

~hag

It was all too much.

We got back into big Daddy Howell’s truck & drove to Beale Street. We could hear the music ebbing from the neon bedecked clubs calling folks to come dance. But we were the only ones out & about. We asked a local what was up & he said Memphis folks don’t come out when it’s cold.

~hag

So we had Bright Beale Street practically all to ourselves. We walked around listening to the music pouring into the street trying to decide where to go. A friendly hawker enticed in where a local band was in full swing.

It turned out to be a place owned by the famous wrestler Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler. And the band on stage was called ‘The Memphis Kings’. Ha! We knew we were in the right place. We danced & enjoyed the easy warmth of the atmosphere. When the set was done, a gentleman came up & called us the ‘Solid Gold Dancers’.  We took that warmth into the night.

POD (Poem Of the Day)

My soul is cupped in the hands of a beggar
Shivering on the street
Held in the dark mouth of a small bird
The shell unbroken,
The heavy yolk floating…
Memories leak through letters bold & sleek.
Adjusting the dials
I swirl in the mind of the mountain
A labyrinth among spiced nectar & bees wax
Savoring the deep dark of the growing New

‘The Deep South’

The Journey – Part 4 Auburn & Sheffield Alabama – (part 1part 2, part 3)

11/13/19: With dawn’s first blush, & the ‘just past Full’ Moon pointing us West; the 3 sisters loaded up the truck which belonged to Patrick Foster’s big daddy Howell when he was alive. Stuffed with our abundant food coolers, luggage, the art projector, drawing materials & all the presentation & ritual supplies – we hit the road for Auburn Alabama.

Helene Burkart welcomed us “to the deep South” & her handsome home, where 19 of her friends, & fellow long time Anthroposophers gathered. The living room was set up theatre style, & the dining room beautifully adored for our luncheon after.

The thoughtful interest & intimate sharing of the participants during the program was profoundly moving. The questions & comments, the stories & artistic explorations created a sacred chalice, allowing the veil between the worlds to open in grace.

At the repast, Helene asked me to share about the Elderberries Initiative, so I talked about the shift that was born over our Michaelmas weekend, when we connected with the biodynamic farmers in a gathering at Angelic Organics. The idea came then to bring the city folk & country folk together for the healing of the earth & the mutual benefit of all, by creating EB’s General Store in Chicago!

After our lovely meal & much conversation, Helene gifted the 3 sisters with bags full of local cotton & the famous white marble of the area – A Blessed memento that I will cherish.

Deb got behind the wheel & we made our way to Sheffield Alabama, where Angela had arranged for us to stay the night in a house situated in a neighborhood configured in the shape of the liberty Bell. (Angela, have I told you lately how amazing you are!)

On Angela’s suggestion, & Deb’s dime, we watched the documentary MUSCLE SHOALS, which we were called to visit the next day. What a thrill! We danced & sang along, laughed & cried as we learned about a place filled with magic & music, legend & folklore, where the river is inhabited by a Native American Spirit who has enticed some of the greatest Rock & Roll & Soul legends of all time, & has drawn from them some of the most uplifting, defiant, & important music ever created. The ups & downs in the story of Rich Hall, who brought black & white folks together in a cauldron of racial equality to create music for the generations, was compelling.

We went to bed tired, with a sigh of gratitude & a joyful prayer for the work done, knowing that the blessing of all worlds was carrying our work into the night.

Tomorrow, more adventures abound…

25 November 2019 – “Speaking with the Stars”: VENUS-JUPITER CONJUNCTION AT SUNSET: When the sun goes down tonight, step outside and look southwest. Venus and Jupiter are in conjunction little more than a degree apart. Try to catch them before the sky fades to black. The sight of the two brightest planets, side-by-side, surrounded by twilight blue is out of this world.

Whenever Fomalhaut is “southing” (crossing the meridian due south, which it does soon after dark this week), the first stars of Orion are just about to rise above the east horizon. And, the Pointers of the Big Dipper stand upright low due north, straight below Polaris.

Rudolf Steiner’s Lectures on this day

Feast Day of St. Catherine of Alexandria, also known as Catherine of the Wheel, a Christian virgin saint, who was martyred in the early 4th century at the hands of the pagan emperor Maxentius. According to her hagiography, she was both a princess & a noted scholar, who became a Christian around the age of 14, converted hundreds of people to Christianity, & was martyred around the age of 18. More than 1,100 years after Catherine’s martyrdom, Joan of Arc identified her as one of the saints who appeared to & counselled her.

Hypatia ~Alfred Siefer

Some modern scholars consider that the legend of St. Catherine of Alexandria was probably based on the life & murder of the Greek philosopher Hypatia, with reversed roles of Christians & pagans.

Too Bright a light

Part 3 – Digesting the Journey (part 1, part 2 )

~ hag

The plan was to bring the All Souls Festival 1st to Atlanta, so I contacted Jolie Luba, leader of the Death Care Community, who had taken us on a moving song trail in the cemetery during the AGM. We grappled with dates & it became clear that instead, we were to have a gathering exploring the connections on 11:11 with the Mercury Transit. (Read about it here) Angela Foster suggested I come into Atlanta on the evening of November 9th (the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall) to be there for 1st Class on the 10th. This was special, since I had been in town last year doing a presentation when Atlanta had their inaugural 1st Class gathering. The power of Lesson 10 spoke right to the heart of our impending journey, giving insights that enlightened our understanding, which we lived into & brought into the work.

That evening Angela & I sat together cutting out the planetary seals. We had a deep conversation where I shared stories of old karmic patterns & some hard truths about my striving to be human. When she left & I was alone at The ARC (Anthroposophical Resource Center), I was spent, so I took a shower with the intention of going to bed early. I was reading Prokofieff’s book about the Sculptural Group ‘A revelation of the Spiritual Purpose of Humanity and the Earth’ – When all of a sudden both my legs started cramping up, a horrible contorting ‘charlie horse’. I kept getting out of bed to try & walk it off. I went over to a high stair to stretch my calves, when both legs seized up & I took a tumble down the stairs. My left arm broke my fall & was sorely bruised.

The image of Ahriman came before me as I looked at my feet, painfully contorted & unable to straighten. It was a long hard night.

When I did sleep, I dreamt that my brothers, who I haven’t seen or spoken to for years, were my children. They were literly bouncing off the walls spider man style & I was wringing my hands in worry over what to do. (This dream brought up a lot, since my own childhood was turbulent & complicated. I graduated from HS early & left home when I was 16 to get away from my incestuous father)

Deb arrived that morning, & had a work call. The branch council was meeting there as well. So I went out for to hike in the Clyde Shephard nature preserve. It was a cold day & I had that sacred spot to myself. While walking I came upon a platform which looked out over an open circular prairie-like area. I climbed up to observe. Why had they put this platform here? What was I to look for? Nothing was apparent, so I decided to go & walk in that place. The ground was super soft with huge cracks in the sandy soil so that my feet sunk in deeply. It was a very unnerving feeling. I had the thought that I should quickly leave or the ground would swallow me up.

~hag, Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve

After I was out, a huge great horned owl swooped past me, so that I could feel the whoosh of air from her wings on my face. And when I was leaving I meet these beautiful sheep.

Rudolf Steiner’s Lectures on this day

Ayse Domeniconi

People will have to learn through the idea of karma that they may not repudiate their earlier deeds with their later deeds. A certain consequentiality in life, a readiness to take on the consequences of what one has done, will have to emerge in human evolution. When one looks more closely, one sees how far removed from this people still are. A greater feeling of responsibility for one’s actions, a greater awareness of karma, that is what a study of this sort might yield.”  ~Rudolf Steiner

Picture of Saint Columbanus

Feast day St. Columban, Stories claim that as he walked in the woods, it was not uncommon for birds to land on his shoulders to be caressed, or for squirrels to run down from the trees & nestle in the folds of his cowl. He was a strong defender of Irish traditions. The following are the principal miracles attributed to his intercession:

Procuring food for a sick monk and curing the wife of his benefactor
Escaping injury while surrounded by wolves
Causing a bear to evacuate a cave at his biddings
Producing a spring of water near his cave
Replenishing the Luxeuil granary
Multiplying bread and beer for his community
Curing sick monks, who rose from their beds at his request to reap the harvest
Giving sight to a blind man at Orleans
Destroying with his breath a cauldron of beer prepared for a pagan festival
Taming a bear and yoking it to a plough.

“Mercury, as evening star, stood in the sign of Libra, the balance.”

9 November 2019 – “Speaking with the Stars”: In early evening, look high above Bella Luna for the Great Square of Pegasus through the moonlight. It’s standing on one corner. The line from its top star through its bottom star points to the Moon.

Happy 85th birthday, Carl Sagan (November 9, 1934 – December 20, 1996) We miss you!

***

Today is the 5th installment of: ‘Mercury Dances across the Face of the Sun’ – Read the 1st, 2nd ,  3rd & 4th chapters.

Dear Friends – Interesting to note that when Rudolf Steiner performed the ceremony to bury & consecrate the Foundation Stone of the 1st Goetheanum, on the evening of September 20th 1913, during a fearsome thunderstorm with all the elements wildly participating, the only Planetary Being he invoked was Mercury; writing in the document laid with the stone, that this deed was performed while “Mercury, as evening star, stood in the sign of Libra, the balance.”

The lamb skin parchment (depicted above) was signed by the attendees, & read out by Steiner; & then interred within the submerged double copper dodecahedra. The short-hand notes from the time, record Steiner reading the various inscriptions on the document, which included the all-important references to the angelic hierarchies & the Rosicrucian dictum E.D.N.; J.C.M.; P.S.S.R., followed by this statement:

This Stone we lower into the kingdom of the condensed elements as symbol of the force for which we endeavor to strive through 3, 5, 7, 12, laid by the Johannes-Bau Verein, Dornach, on the 20th day of September 1,880 years after the Mystery of Golgotha, that is 1913 after the birth of Christ, when Mercury as the evening star stood in Libra”.

Image result for Schiller from his essay ‘Letters On the Aesthetic Education of Man’,

The term ‘condensed elements‘ is reminiscent of Schiller from his essay ‘Letters On the Aesthetic Education of Man’, a short work that Steiner describes as being of the highest philosophical significance. The importance that Steiner placed on the laying of this foundation stone, as well as the significance of the document & each part of its content, cannot be underestimated. It is also of high significance that here Steiner refers to Mercury as the evening star – again an indication (which I am still investigating) as to the so-called ‘interchange’ between Venus & Mercury.

Rudolf Steiner described the laying of the Foundation Stone as an act of descending the microcosm into the macrocosm. As god of communication, Mercury was invoked to witness what Steiner later christened as an example of: the Reverse Ritual – a new mystery; in this case calling for balanced communication, calling for us as human beings to step up, & speak up, in our conversation with the cosmos – Calling for us to build a firm foundation within ourselves –

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is 11-cc.png

A foundation strong enough to withstand the fires of sacrifice when the corner stone was transformed into The Foundation Stone Meditation, becoming the living word, The Logos, the foundation Stone of Love, at the Christmas Conference, after the Johannes-Bau had burned to ash. Then we see how Mercury steps in as psycho-pomp, escorting a Persephone renewed, as representative of All Souls who journey in the underworld – the 1st spark of the fires of Isis redeemed.

Rudolf Steiner demonstrated this great mystery of reversing the ritual in our call to speak once more to the stars, a gift to Marie Steiner on the Christmas Eve the year before.

And so it was, 1 solar cycle later, this time with Ita Wegman by his side, after a lecture to the Christian Community priests on NYE, Steiner stood with her on the Dornach hill & watched the Goetheanum go up in flames, opening a vision of the burning of Ephesus, an opening into the spiritual world allowing Ita Wegman to see into her past incarnations & for Steiner, to truly begin his core mission of bringing karma & reincarnation to the Western world.

And then after another solar cycle, the Foundation Stone that was planted in 1913 blossomed thru the blood of sacrifice into the foundation stone of love, which our beloved teacher selflessly poured into our hearts – as the Logos renewed.

In 1913, before the events of the 1st World War had begun, Mercury witnessed the stone as it was laid into earth, calling for balance. And Venus as the New Isis is calling from the future, to be reclaimed, & named as sacred witness, as we endeavor to understand thru our own free will forces, what it means to participate in the renewal of the Foundation Stone, laying it into the heart of the World as the Sacred Word. On 11.11.19, with the 100 year anniversary of the Christmas Conference looming, as Mercury makes his retrograde journey across the face of the Sun,

we are called to heal our wounded hearts, moving from a community of the “11” which suffered a “betrayal”, to a unity in community which resonates with the “11” who thru the empowerment of inner development, acknowledges & accepts one another as fellow Michaelites.

My friends, we are called today to join our voices together in our ‘Speaking with the Stars’, in full consciousness. Enabling us to redeem the wisdom of the Sophia & wed it with the Christ within.

Tomorrow we touch on Rudolf Steiner’s involvement with WW1 & Armistice Day

 ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

Image result for Faust descent to the mothers

In the Original Calendar of the Soul, Steiner speaks about today being when ‘Faust makes his descent to the Mothers’ (more about that on 11.11.19)

1888 – Rudolf Steiner’s ‘Aquinas experience’ – after giving a lecture on ‘Goethe as father of a new aesthetics’ the Cistercian priest Wilhelm Neumann, Steiner’s friend made this remark: “The seeds of this lecture you gave today are to be found already in Thomas Aquinas”. This opened Steiner to his earlier incarnation.

1918 – The second German Empire ends – Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany abdicates after the German Revolution, & Germany is proclaimed a Republic.

1923 – Hitler’s attempted coup in Munich

9–10 November 1938 – Kristallnacht, the Night of Broken Glass, was a pogrom against Jews throughout Nazi Germany, carried out by SA paramilitary forces and German civilians. The German authorities looked on without intervening.  Jewish homes, hospitals, & schools were ransacked, as the attackers demolished buildings with sledgehammers.  The rioters destroyed 267 synagogues throughout Germany, Austria, & the Sudetenland, & over 7,000 Jewish businesses were either destroyed or damaged. Kristallnacht was followed by additional economic & political persecution of Jews, it is viewed by historians as part of Nazi Germany’s broader racial policy, & the beginning of the Final Solution & The Holocaust.

1 November 2019 – “Speaking with the Stars”:  Bella Luna moves eastward relative to the background stars each day, & this movement carries it into Saturn’s vicinity this evening. Look for the ringed planet to Luna’s upper left. As with Jupiter, Saturn remains a glorious sight all week. The ringed planet resides among the background stars of Sagittarius the Archer, a region that appears high in the southwest as twilight fades to darkness & doesn’t set until around 11 pm CST time. Saturn shines significantly brighter than any of its host stars.

 ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

Image result for all saints day

ALL SAINTS DAYAfter this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches in their hands…. [One of the elders] said to me, ‘These are the ones who have survived the time of great distress; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb” (Revelation 7:9,14)

The earliest observance of a feast in honor of all the saints is an early fourth-century commemoration of “all the martyrs.” In the early seventh century, after successive waves of invaders plundered the catacombs, Pope Boniface IV gathered up some 28 wagonloads of bones & reinterred them beneath the Pantheon, a Roman temple dedicated to all the gods. The pope rededicated the shrine as a Christian church. According to Venerable Bede, the pope intended “that the memory of all the saints might in the future be honored in the place which had formerly been dedicated to the worship not of gods but of demons” (On the Calculation of Time).

The Anglo-Saxon theologian Alcuin observed the feast on November 1 in 800, as did his friend Arno, Bishop of Salzburg. Rome finally adopted that date in the ninth century.

The Massacre of the Innocents, part of the El Dia de los Muertos celebration, honors the biblical account of infanticide by Herod. According to the Gospel of Matthew, Herod ordered the execution of all young male children in the vicinity of Bethlehem, so as to avoid the loss of his throne to a newborn King of the Jews whose birth had been announced to him by the Magi, understood as the fulfillment of an Old Testament prophecy: “Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying, ‘A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because her children are no more”.

Image result for 2013 – Paul Anthony Ciancia opens fire at Los Angeles International Airport,

2013 – Paul Anthony Ciancia opens fire at Los Angeles International Airport, killing a US Transportation Security Administration employee, & wounding seven other people. After the shooting ended, Ciancia was found to be carrying a note stating that he “wanted to kill TSA”. It also mentioned “fiat currency” & the New World Order. The common theme of this theory is that a secretive power elite with a globalist agenda is conspiring to eventually rule the world through an authoritarian world government—which will replace sovereign nation-states—& an all-encompassing propaganda whose ideology hails the establishment of the New World Order as the culmination of history’s progress. Many influential historical & contemporary figures are said to be part of this cabal that operates through many front organizations to orchestrate significant political & financial events, ranging from causing systemic crises to pushing through controversial policies, at both national & international levels, as steps in an ongoing plot to achieve world domination. The judge votes to keep Ciancia’s statements sealed.

POD (Poem Of the Day)

~Today I am
The thought of myself
In my Mothers forehead…
May I listen to the voice of the messenger
Bringing her song up from the dead –
A silver star bruised & hanging on a cloud
As I roll gold into life
Like the scarab
A Sinner marching with the Saints
I stretch canvas & continue
Practicing

Remedios Varo

Beloved Being – Life is a Loom…& we are the weavers of this fabric we call Reality…Our bodies: a bone spindle, shuttling bobbin Souls…Our fibers interlacing, Spinning straw into gold…& yes sometimes a strand of sorrow is added to the weft…These dark threads are just as needed in a weavers skillful hand as the threads of gold & silver in our patterns spun in sand…& now as the fire of life goes inward, & rest lies upon the patient land…Our Craft is the Art of Transforming the patchwork shadow, the wounded ancestor, the demure descendant, every loose fiber, Into a fabric of healed wholeness & Peace…

May your transformation be ever-full of grace.
