Last Address

~George Mason

Greetings Dear Sisters & Brothers on this auspicious Eve of the Full Harvest Moon, coupled with the ancient Jewish celebration of Sukkot, which brings the community together for a unique opportunity to experience an amazing blend of Honoring the Ancestors, Giving Thanks, & opening to receive prosperity’s blessings…Yes, the season of in-gathering is upon us once again…Sweet with the seal of At-One-ment…

In the New Christian Mysteries this is also the Eve of The Feast Day of St. Michael & All the Heavenly Hosts. Referred to as Michaelmas, a season that really begins during the Perseid Meteor showers, is celebrated specifically on September 29th, & lasts until The Feast of All Hallows.

TODAY – 99 years ago – on 28 September 1924, Rudolf Steiner rose from his sick bed where he worked at the foot of his unfinished sculpture – the ‘Representative of Humanity’, to give what has been referred to as: THE LAST ADDRESS, GA 238, THE INDIVIDUALITY OF ELIAS, JOHN, RAPHAEL, NOVALIS. Rudolf Steiner died 6 months later on 30 March 1925.

On the eve of Michaelmas, Steiner gives a mysterious example of what is called ‘Spiritual Economy’ – which he had been revealing all thru 1923 in his ‘Karmic Relationships’ series – the idea that powerful individualities can share the results of their initiations which have developed their various bodies: physical, etheric, astral & I, with other worthy souls for the purpose of furthering human evolution.

In this last public lecture, he gives a truncated glimpse into the special relationship between John the Evangelist, who in earlier incarnations was Cain, Hiram Abiff, Christian Rosenkreutz, Count of St-Germain…& John the Baptist, who was the first man Adam, the Zealot Phinehas-grandson of Aaron & great-nephew of Moses, then the prophet Elijah, the painter Raphael, & the poet Novalis…

It is up to us now as part of the Centennial renewal to take up the threads.

Thru Steiner’s 5th Gospel we can understand that John the Baptist worked with all the apostles from the spiritual world after his beheading, becoming like the “overshadowing spirit of the disciples”

And in particular JB participated, along with other powerful individualities, in the first Christian initiation of a human being by Christ Jesus: the ‘Raising of Lazarus’ = An integration of the pure essence at the core of the ancient Mystery Schools with the New Christian Mysteries working simultaneously. And here we see this principle of ‘Spiritual Economy’ or as Marie Steiner called described it:  “incorporation secrets, the line of interception of individualities”. For while Lazarus was undergoing this new 4-day initiation, JB endowed Lazarus with his Consciousness Soul which he had achieved as Elijah, & the advanced level of his astral body as Spirit-Self. Bestowing on Lazarus the initiatory title John, which signifies the Air (Hebrew=Ruach) Initiation. Steiner describes the title John as “one who has awakened his higher self, who governs the occult forces of air”.

~Van Gogh

From the Last Address we hear: “At the rising of Lazarus, the spiritual being of John the Baptist, who since his death had been the overshadowing spirit of the disciples, penetrated from above into Lazarus as far as the Consciousness-Soul. The being of Lazarus himself, from below, intermingled with the spiritual being of John the Baptist from above. After the rising of Lazarus, this Being is Lazarus-John, the disciple whom the Lord loved. And he was then able to write the Gospel of John & the Book of Revelation”. ~Rudolf Steiner

This initiation of Lazarus-John, as a representative of future humanity, pre-figured on the micro-level the death & resurrection that Christ Jesus accomplished macrocosmically on Golgotha. Since this was such an important task, other powerful individualities not able to be mentioned at that time by Steiner in the Last Address, were involved:

The Being known as Zarathustra, who had incarnated as the Matthew Jesus, visited by his followers the 3 Magi, merging with the Nathan Soul of the Luke Jesus at age 12, who then left the body of Jesus of Nazareth at the Baptism by JB to allow the Christ to enter, worked now from the Moon Sphere, offering Lazarus his advanced etheric-body (Buddhi).

And it was Aristotle, who later became Rudolf Steiner, working with Michael from the Sun sphere at the Turning Point of Time, made his powers of Atman (Spirit-Man) available to Lazarus-John.

Christ himself bestowed the Higher “I”.

The Raising of Lazarus ~Juan De Flandes

Lazarus’ sister Mary Magdalene kept his physical body intact enough to rise from the grave (even though Martha his other sister said “by this time there is a bad odor…”) Mary worked thru the advanced power of her Sentient Soul to hold him grounded in the physical while he underwent the initiation.

Perhaps that is why some say ‘the Disciple who Jesus loved’ looked like a woman. Some say it was even Mary…

And so dear friends on this eve of Michaelmas thru the inspiration of Rudolf Steiner’s ‘Last Address’, as well as comments he made in connection to other incorporations, such as between Demetrius & Kaspar Hauser, which Steiner spoke about to Count Polzer-Hoditz a few weeks before he died, we can see that at the ‘Raising of Lazarus’ we are dealing with a new kind of Initiation where a human being stands before Christ, reaching from the earthly depths to the highest heavenly heights – Assisted thru the interception of spiritual organs of high initiates working from the Spiritual Worlds: John the Baptist, Zarathustra, Aristotle, & the Apostle of the Apostles Mary Magdalene.

May more threads of our evoultion continue to connect us in our seeking to be ‘Christ in me’.

28 September 2023 – “Speaking with the Stars”: The full moon closest to the equinox, or Harvest Moon – rises just before sunset. It’s the last of 4 full supermoons in a row in 2023. Also, on September 28, look for the full super Harvest Moon to be about halfway between the 2 planets, very bright Jupiter and golden Saturn.

Rudolf Steiner’s Lectures on this day

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

551 BC – Birthday of Confucius, Chinese teacher, editor, politician, & philosopher of the Spring &Autumn period of Chinese history

1203 – Deathday of Alanus ab Insulis, Theologian, poet, teacher at Chartres. Alan’s philosophy was a sort of mixture of Aristotelian logic and Neoplatonic philosophy. The Platonist seemed to outweigh the Aristotelian in Alan, but he felt strongly that the divine is all intelligibility and argued this notion through much Aristotelian logic combined with Pythagorean mathematic

“Do not hold as gold all that shines as gold”

In the Anticlaudianus he sums up as follows: Reason, guided by prudence, can unaided discover most of the truths of the physical order; for the apprehension of religious truths it must trust to faith. This rule is completed in his treatise, Ars catholicae fidei, as follows: Theology itself may be demonstrated by reason. Alainus even ventures an immediate application of this principle, & tries to prove geometrically the dogmas defined in the Creed

Rudolf Steiner speaks extensively about this powerful Platonic individuality in many place such as: Karmic Relationships: Esoteric Studies – Volume III, lecture VI – THE SCHOOL OF CHARTRES

Giovanni Segantini - Wikipedia

1899 – Deathday of Giovanni Segantini,an Italian painter known for his large pastoral landscapes of the Alps. He was one of the most famous artists in Europe in the late 19th century. In later life he combined a Divisionist painting style with Symbolist images of nature. He was active in Switzerland for most of his life.

TODAY in 1924 – Rudolf Steiner gave his ‘Last Address’ in Dornach GA 238  ‘The Individuality of Elias, John, Raphael, Novalis’ with the Michael Meditation:

Springing from Powers of the Sun,
Radiant Spirit-powers, blessing all Worlds!
For Michael’s garment of rays
Ye are predestined by Thought Divine.

He, the Christ-messenger, revealeth in you —
Bearing mankind aloft — the sacred Will of Worlds.
Ye, the radiant Beings of Aether-Worlds,
Bear the Christ-Word to Man.

Thus shall the Heralds of Christ appear
To the thirstily waiting souls,
To whom your Word of Light shines forth
In cosmic age of Spirit-Man.

Ye, the disciples of Spirit-Knowledge,
Take Michael’s Wisdom beckoning,
Take the Word of Love of the Will of Worlds
Into your soul’s aspiring, a c t i v e l y !

1978 – Deathday of Pope John Paul I, born Albino Luciani, served as Pope until his sudden suspicious death 33 days later. His reign is among the shortest in papal history.

“Perhaps that is why some say ‘the Disciple who Jesus loved’ looked like a woman. Some say it was even Mary…”

Let us look at the facts as described in the Gospel of John, chapter 11. There is nothing to indicate that Mary is doing anything more than praying for her brother while she sits in the house as her sister Martha goes to greet the coming Christ. Martha calls for her telepathically, and says: The Christ is here and waiting for you. Mary jumps up and runs. Now, here is what transpires:

32 Therefore, when Mary came where Jesus was, she saw Him, and fell at His feet, saying to Him, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.” 33 When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and ]was troubled, 34 and said, “Where have you laid him?” They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.” 35 Jesus wept. 36 So the Jews were saying, “See how He loved him!” 37 But some of them said, “Could not this man, who opened the eyes of the blind man, have kept this man also from dying?”

38 So Jesus, again being deeply moved within, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone was lying against it. 39 Jesus *said, “Remove the stone.” Martha, the sister of the deceased, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days.” 40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” 41 So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me.” 43 When He had said these things, He cried out with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth.” 44 The man who had died came forth, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”

45 Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary, and saw what He had done, believed in Him. 46 But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.

So, Hazel, how do we get from this to the depiction of the Last Supper, with Mary herself replacing her brother, Lazarus? I know about this belief, as well as Mary being the so-called, “Apostle to the Apostles”. Yet, it can be shown that she was far less dynamic than this. She actually remained in Jerusalem, and indeed, gained followers in the discipleship, as Christ had proclaimed after her anointings. That is why Peter went directly to her after his miraculous escape from certain death. By this time, she had a son who had been chosen to follow Paul. She called him home because Peter had been saved, and needed him. This caused a falling out with Paul. She was telepathic, just like she was with her sister, Martha. Her son, John Mark, was quite a distance away, but returned right away.

    1. The Gospel says: “When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house.”
I find it instructive to recognize that Mary, the one who anoints the Anointed One, & has prepared him for burial, & who is always right there at the foot of the Master is not the first to greet him, “But Mary stayed in the house.”
      Why?
Because Mary had a part to play – she was holding sacred space for her brother Lazurus during his initiation.
Just as she did when Christ was Harrowing Hell on Holy Saturday.

It is Martha who hears what Mary already knows “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die.”

Read her Gospel & you will see that she was extremely dynamic –

      1. Yet, Mary arrives weeping and says, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died”. It does not sound like she is expecting her brother to be raised. She remains at the house because she is in deep mourning. Only when Martha calls to her does she rush to Christ, who she is not expecting. The mystery, of course, is why did Christ wait two more days after first being alerted by the sisters that their brother, whom Christ loved, was sick? If He had come immediately, then Lazarus would have been raised from his sickness. They know that. But, Christ has something bigger in mind. He waits two more days until Lazarus has actually died. This is the 7th Attesting Miracle, which fills the Cup. Mary would go on to anoint Christ again when they return to Bethany.

        1. Yes, & I see the words deep mourning as indicating that The Magdalene was journeying with him.
This is the first Christian Initiation for all of humanity. MM had prior initiation, which did not include the 4th day.
Yes this is part of the New Mystery.
MM did her part in expanding her etheric body out to hold Lazurus while he was in the underworld so that he could come forth from the grave.

I understand that these Women’s Mysteries are not easy to grasp.

          1. I do believe that Mary was working with the Christ by remaining in the House, and connecting with the etheric body of her brother in order to keep it intact for when the Christ would reanimate the physical body. Remember, He had the singularly unique power over the Skeleton, which made it possible to say, “Lazarus Come Forth”, and it was so. When Christ was crucified at the first Christian Passover, He acknowledges Mary Magdalene below the Cross as His faithful follower with the ennobled Sentient Soul.

It seems only fair to say that what appears as deep mourning has a substrata of consciousness that by today’s standards can now be expressed with a greater measure of intellectual discernment. Mary was certainly doing her part on the journey with Christ. I often wonder what she came to realize of her brother when he came home. Did she perceive the enhancement caused by the Baptist even before Christ returned on Lazarus Saturday?

              1. The presence of JB within her brother. Even Steiner left this unrevealed until the Last Address, although lecture IV of the Hamburg course on the Gospel of John, which concerns the Raising of Lazarus, is nearly all about John the Baptist. I have always wondered about that, and how little is really known about Lazarus. Even the name is an Initiate’s name, like Zarathustra.

Zarathustra continued to work on Earth after the Baptism. He wanted to experience every day as a witness, the Being he had first heard in the ancient Persian epoch, and known then as Ahura Mazdao. The Doctrine of Zeruane Akarene was first communicated to Zarathustra way back then, and that is why he went looking for his first two students in order to impart this knowledge of Uncreated Time and Undivided Space.

              2. Hi Hazel,

You made a comment that has lingered with me all day about MM. You said:
“MM had a prior initiation, which did not include the 4th day.”

Yes, and we have been talking about it nearly all year. She is even memorialized for it, like her anointing of Christ. Remember, Christ said that in all the world she would be remembered and honored for what she did in preparing His burial.

“6 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, at the home of Simon the leper, 7 a woman came to Him with an alabaster vial of very costly perfume, and she poured it on His head as He reclined at the table. 8 But the disciples were indignant when they saw this, and said, “Why this waste? 9 For this perfume might have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor.” 10 But Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why do you bother the woman? For she has done a good deed to Me. 11 For you always have the poor with you; but you do not always have Me. 12 For when she poured this perfume on My body, she did it to prepare Me for burial. 13 Truly I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of in memory of her.” Matthew 26

Thus, Mary was an icon in Jerusalem at the time when Peter came to her house after being miraculously saved from sure death, ref. Acts 12. This proves her standing in the community.

Yet, it can also be shown that Mary is immortalized based on another event which is recorded in the gospels, and wherein Christ is interrogated by the Sadducees. They ask Him about this:

19 “Teacher, Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves behind a wife and leaves no child, his brother should marry the wife and raise up children to his brother. 20 There were seven brothers; and the first took a wife, and died leaving no children. 21 The second one married her, and died leaving behind no children; and the third likewise; 22 and so all seven left no children. Last of all the woman died also. 23 In the resurrection, when they rise again, which one’s wife will she be? For all seven had married her.” 24 Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven”. Mark 12

This questioning of Christ by the Sadducees concerns an actual occurrence in which a woman was married to seven brothers who died one after the other, from eldest to youngest. She was married to the eldest, and the tradition was that the next brother in line was compelled to marry her. Mary Magdalene, in a former life, was this person. As such, she gained a demon for every lost husband, and was reborn bearing these seven demons.

She, of no fault of course, but bearing the karma only, bore the burden of guilt until forgiven by Christ. The seven who she had married in the former life, became disciples of Christ. Thus, a perfect resolve. She did have an episode when she was cast out of the family home and went to Magdala for a time, but she returned when she heard that the Messiah had finally come to Earth.

              3. What speaks to me is that this individuality held the position of a High Priestess of Isis – That was her last high initiation.
The demons are representations of the 7 layers of this initiation.

              4. Have you run that idea through the Pure Thought World, and done a full 10/10 on it? Pardon me, but I see it as purely out of your own imagination. Where is the basis of evidence, I always ask. That is the only reason I quote scripture so much. It is possible to make headway using that technique. Another question to ask is: Why were the two Mary’s so close? We had found this earlier.

              5. Actually, I have been pondering what this eclipse series means for us this year for a long while.
I have arranged to do a weekend event for the April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/where-when/
which mirrors the ‘Great American’ Eclipse’ event that I did with the Central Regional Council in St Louis in 2017. I wrote a very powerful pageant & we had over 50 folks attend. https://reverseritual.com/from-light-thru-darkness-into-new-light/

This time I want to do something small, at the Cahokia Mounds https://cahokiamounds.org/learn/
I have already booked the space & will start getting the word out soon. I think I only want 12 folks…There is a specific working that can happen on that sacred land…

I have been thinking about the Oct. 14th Solar Eclipse too, I haven’t planned anything, & I wasn’t sure why. I kept seeing the time coming closer & I just couldn’t make any plans. But now that you bring in the connection with the 1st New Moon after the Autumnal Equinox it feels like an affirmation – We could tune in together as a 1010 event to hold the light together.

                https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2023/where-when/

                https://science.nasa.gov/solar-system/skywatching/eclipses/new-nasa-map-details-2023-and-2024-solar-eclipses-in-the-us/

              6. There is also another factor of this solar eclipse that is important in relation to something else that we have been talking about recently.

                https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/53c358b6e4b01b8adb4d5870/d8439c04-cea8-45e0-8f24-72140ccc6efb/Annular+Eclipse.jpg?format=1500w

Ponder the image of the New Moon as an entirely black spectral sphere coming across the face of the Sun and you have the tell-tale evidence of the Eighth Sphere. Steiner had indicated that the Eighth Sphere is centered in the Physical Moon, and also surrounds the Earth. A solar eclipse is a classic depiction, but the same effect can be seen every month when the waning crescent moon is reduced to about 13% illuminated. It is an eery view; very ominous when seen after midnight.

                https://rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA254/English/RSP1973/images/254-05-02.gif

              7. Yes, & so our task is to bring in the Spiritual Sun to counteract this 8th Sphere’s appearance at these cosmic events

              8. The Crucifixion of Christ took place during a solar eclipse. Rudolf Steiner made a careful examination of this occurrence in the Fifth Gospel lectures. The power of Christ as the Being of Time kept the eclipse intact for three hours.

“45 Now from the sixth hour [Noon] darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour [3 pm]. 46 About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 47 And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, began saying, “This man is calling for Elijah.” 48 Immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink. 49 But the rest of them said, “Let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him. ” 50 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. 51 And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split. 52 The tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised; 53 and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many. 54 Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!” Matthew 27

Solar eclipses last no more than five minutes by today’s standards, but this was a special occasion. The Being of Time invoked the Doctrine of Zeruane Akarene for the entire world, as first given to Zarathustra when Christ was better known as Ahura Mazdao in the ancient Persian epoch, c. 5000 BC.

              9. There is also a relationship between solar eclipses and earthquakes. You can imagine what a solar eclipse lasting three hours means for the forces needed to open the earth, and rend the veil of the temple in two. Eventually, the Body would go there, as well.

Lecture 2 of the Gospel of Matthew gives a nice description of Zeruane Akarene. Synopsis:

Dual principles of Zoroastrianism: Ormuzd (Light) and Ahriman (Darkness). These derive from a single, undivided origin: Zeruane Akarene, generally translated as ‘uncreated Time’. The mysteries of Space and Time. Zarathustra’s influence upon later cultures through Hermes and Moses, his former pupils. Contact made between Sun-wisdom (Hermes) and Earth-wisdom (Moses). Earthly events are reflections of happenings in the Cosmos and can be expressed in pictures derived from cosmic phenomena. Stages in the development of the wisdom of Moses on the path of return towards the Sun. This process is portrayed in the history of the Hebrews. Mercury stage reached at the time of David; Venus stage at the time of the Babylonian captivity. Contact made with a stream of wisdom from Asia, present in modified form in the Babylonian and Chaldean Mysteries. Zarathustra, reincarnated as Zarathas or Nazarathos in the sixth century B.C., became the teacher of Pythagoras and of the learned Hebrews, Chaldeans and Babylonians. Origin of Hebraic racial stock. Transformation of corrupted Atlantean-Turanian clairvoyance into a force operating in the inner constitution of the Hebrews. Experience of the Divine concentrated in man’s own being, in the blood flowing through the generations.

Alan uses a poetical dialogue to illustrate the way in which nature comes to the realization of her failure in producing the perfect man. She has only the ability to create a soulless body, and thus she is “persuaded to undertake the journey to heaven to ask for a soul,” and “the Seven Liberal Arts produce a chariot for her… the Five Senses are the horses”.

        1. This was a very relevant magazine from Britain, and started in 1948. I think many of the issues are easily available online. I have reviewed a number of them, and the scholarship is quite impeccable. Adam Bittleston was the editor. George O’Neil was the American equivalent, and had a magazine for years called, Anthroposophy Today. They are also impressive.

  2. Hazel, this statement cannot be found in the Last Address, anywhere:

“From the Last Address we hear: “At the rising of Lazarus, the spiritual being of John the Baptist, who since his death had been the overshadowing spirit of the disciples, penetrated from above into Lazarus as far as the Consciousness-Soul. The being of Lazarus himself, from below, intermingled with the spiritual being of John the Baptist from above. After the rising of Lazarus, this Being is Lazarus-John, the disciple whom the Lord loved. And he was then able to write the Gospel of John & the Book of Revelation”.

What Steiner actually spoke is this:

“When we look back into olden times, we see rise up before us within the traditions of Judaism the prophetic figure of Elijah. We know what significance the prophet Elijah had for the people of the Old Testament, and therewith for all mankind; we know how he set before them the goal and destiny of their existence. And we have shown how in the course of time the being who was present in Elijah appeared again at the very most important moment of human evolution, appeared again so that Christ Jesus Himself could give him the Initiation he was to receive for the evolution of mankind. For the being of Elijah appeared again in Lazarus-John — who are in truth one and the same figure, as you will have understood from my book “Christianity as Mystical Fact.”

What this means is that John the Baptist did not overshadow from above, but actually returned into the sheaths of the raised Lazarus as Soul and Spirit. He had been living outside as the Elijah-John stream, Folk Soul of the Twelve, after his beheading. This is when he was supporting Christ from above. Then, he made his return, and this is what Lazarus-John means. That is why Christ gives the total teaching at Ephraim, which is memorialized in the Gospel of Mark lectures.

The return to Bethany six days before the Passover finds Lazarus sitting at the table with Christ. His discipleship is formally acknowledged, although it had existed for three years already as the eyewitness writer who first follows Christ with Andrew, who were the disciples of John the Baptist, ref. John 1:35. By chapter 12, a new presence was also found to exist in Lazarus. This is the return of John himself. That is why this became the Disciple Whom Jesus Loved. Jesus perceived the return of his cousin in the sheaths of Lazarus. An incorporation was required if the raised physical body of Lazarus was to be effective. Thus, John, having worked from the outside for a time, returns in order to bring the necessary Soul and Spirit into Lazarus. Yet, the essence of Lazarus is retained in terms of the linga sharira, or time-body. Thus, the Etheric Body of Lazarus becomes involved as the catalyst for what would become the eventual birth of Christian Rosenkreutz in the 13th century.

Rudolf Steiner even indicates that Christian Rosenkreutz was incarnated in the 20th century, and I will give the citation:

“The Count of Saint Germain was the exoteric reincarnation of Christian Rosenkreutz in the eighteenth century. This name was given to other people, too, however; therefore not everything that is told about Count Saint Germain here and there in the outside world applies to the real Christian Rosenkreutz. Christian Rosenkreutz is incarnated again today.”

“In this last lecture, he gives a truncated glimpse into the special relationship between John the Evangelist, who in earlier incarnations was Cain, Hiram Abiff, Christian Rosenkreutz, Count of St-Germain…& John the Baptist, who was the first man Adam, the Zealot Phinehas-grandson of Aaron & great-nephew of Moses, then the prophet Elijah, the painter Raphael, & the poet Novalis…”

I see Rudolf Steiner strongly inviting his listening audience to realize that he is the successor to Novalis. Novalis is described as the forerunner of Michael, and what better successor could there be than the reincarnated Aristotle, Lazarus, and especially, Christian Rosenkreutz? There is a line that needs to be filled next to Novalis, and Steiner is politely encouraging his audience to see it, and realize whom they have been following as leader of a new age.

  4. ‘1203 – Deathday of Alanus ab Insulis, Theologian, poet, teacher at Chartres. Alan’s philosophy was a sort of mixture of Aristotelian logic and Neoplatonic philosophy. The Platonist seemed to outweigh the Aristotelian in Alan, but he felt strongly that the divine is all intelligibility and argued this notion through much Aristotelian logic combined with Pythagorean mathematic.’

“Alain de Lille, in his own earthly life as a teacher at Chartres, had only been able to go so far that at a certain age of life he put on the garment of the Cistercians. He became a priest of the Cistercian Order. In the Cistercian Order at that time, in the exercises of that Order, the last relics of a striving to awaken Platonism — the Platonic world-conception, in unison with Christianity — had found a refuge.

The way in which he sent a pupil down to the earth expressed itself in this: he sent his pupil down to continue through the Dominican Order the task that was now to pass over to Aristotelianism.”

    […..]

“It was out of these impulses, as we find them expressed in Alain de Lille’s work Contra Hereticos, that there afterwards arose such a work as the Summa Fidei Catholicae contra Gentiles of Thomas Aquinas. And there arose that characteristic feature of the time which speaks to us from all the pictures, where we see the Dominican Doctors of the Church treading Averroes, Avicenna and the others under foot. For this indicates the living and spirited defense of spiritual Christianity, and yet withal the transition to intellectualism.”

      1. It was known in the School of Chartres that the Platonism taught there through the Seven Liberal Arts would have to yield to Aristotelianism, beginning in the 13th century. This is also when Christian Rosenkreutz was born. There is a definite relationship.

Now, thirteen years before, Rudolf Steiner described this school without naming any of its individual members, but rather, characterizing them as the Holy Rishis of the ancient Indian Cultural Epoch, post-Atlantean.

        https://rsarchive.org/Lectures/GA130/English/RSP1984/19110927p01.html

“In a place in Europe that cannot be named yet — though this will be possible in the not very distant future — a lodge of a very spiritual nature was formed comprising a council of twelve men who had received into themselves the sum of the spiritual wisdom of olden times and of their own time.. So we are concerned with twelve men who lived in that dark era, twelve outstanding individualities, who united together to help the progress of humanity. None of them could see directly into the spiritual world, but they could awaken to life in themselves memories of what they had experienced through earlier initiations. And the karma of mankind brought it about that in seven of the twelve all that still remained to mankind of the ancient Atlantean epoch was incarnated. In my Occult Science it has already been stated that in the seven holy Rishis of old, the teachers of the ancient Indian cultural epoch, all that was left of the Atlantean epoch was preserved. These seven men who were incarnated again in the thirteenth century, and who were part of the council of twelve, were just those who could look back into the seven streams of the ancient Atlantean cultural epoch of mankind and the further course of these streams. Among these seven individualities each one of them could bring one stream to life for their time and the present time. In addition to these seven there were another four who could not look back into times long past but could look back to the occult wisdom mankind had acquired in the four post-Atlantean epochs. The first could look back to the ancient Indian period, the second to the ancient Persian cultural period, the third to the Egyptian-Chaldaean-Assyrian-Babylonian cultural period and the fourth to the Greco-Roman culture. These four joined the seven to form a council of wise men in the thirteenth century. A twelfth had the fewest memories as it were, however he was the most intellectual among them, and it was his task to foster external science in particular. These twelve individualities not only lived in the experiences of Western occultism, but these twelve different streams of wisdom worked together to make a whole. A remarkable reference to this can be found in Goethe’s poem The Mysteries. “

          1. Yes, Christian Rosenkreutz was a very special preparation. As you can see, nothing was simple. We can, indeed, work with them by knowing about them. This occurs by absorbing spiritual science, and then taking it even further in terms of the living record. 10/10 is connected with this activity. True corroboration must have a source that is beyond earthly.

    The Door of Death
    by William Blake
The Door of Death is made of gold,
    That mortal eyes cannot behold;
But when the mortal eyes are clos’d,
And cold and pale the limbs repos’d,
The soul awakes; and, wond’ring, sees
In her mild hand the golden keys . . .
